H O R O SC O P E ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Before you adventurous Arians charge right into those new projects, take a little time to learn where you’ll be going so you can avoid getting lost before you get there. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Your time is devoted to career demands through much of the week. But Venus, who rules your sign, might be planning how (and with whom) you’ll spend your weekend. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Don’t be put off by the surprising turn in the way your project is developing. You’ve invested enough time in it to know how to make all the necessary adjustments. CANCER ( June 21 to July 22) The work week goes smoothly for the most part. But a weekend visit to a place in your past could hold surprises for your future, especially where romance is involved. LEO ( July 23 to August 22) A sudden attack of shyness for the usually loquacious Lion could be a sign that deep down you’re not sure enough about what (or whom) you had planned to talk up in public. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Deal with that job-related problem on-site -- that is, at the workplace. Avoid taking it home, where it can spoil those important personal plans you’ve made. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) It’s a good time to let those favorable comments about your business dealings be known to those in a position to be helpful. Don’t hide your light; let it shine. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Avoid added pressure to finish a project on deadline by steering clear of distractions. To put it somewhat poetically: Time for fun -- when your tasks are done. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) You might be uneasy about an offer from a longtime colleague. But before you reject it, study it. You might be surprised at what it actually contains. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Deal firmly with a difficult family matter. It’s your strength they need right now. You can show your emotions when the situation begins to ease up. AQUARIUS ( January 20 to February 18) A recent dispute with some coworkers might not have been completely resolved. But other colleagues will be only too happy to offer support of your actions. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Let go of that Piscean pride long enough to allow someone to help you with a surprising development. That could make it easier for you to adjust to the change. BORN THIS WEEK: Your willingness to open up to possibilities is why people like you are often among our most popular political leaders. (c) 2018 King Features Syndicate

STAY SAFE WHEN GARDENING IN HOT WEATHER Stay hydrated. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water is something gardeners must do to stay safe when gardening in summer. Water carries heat away from internal organs, helping to prevent heat stroke along the way. Water takes heat through the bloodstream to the skin, resulting in sweat. Gardeners who notice they are not sweating despite the heat should drink more water and even head indoors to cool down. In addition, the American Heart Association notes that keeping the body hydrated helps the heart pump blood more easily, making gardening less taxing on the heart on hot days.

2/3 cup water 1/2 cup milk (approximately) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup + 1/3 cup sugar (divided) 2 cups strawberries, rinsed, drained and hulled Vanilla Ice cream (optional) In medium bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, salt and 2 tablespoons of the sugar. With pastry blender or fingertips, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Set aside. In 1-quart saucepan over medium heat, combine 1/3 cup of the sugar and water. Cook, stirring, until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, 5 minutes. Spoon strawberries into ungreased 1-1/2 quart casserole and pour hot sugar mixture over berries. Immediately add milk to reserved flour mixture and stir until soft dough of drop-biscuit consistency forms, adding more milk if necessary. Drop by large tablespoons in 10 mounds evenly spaced over berries. Sprinkle with remaining 2 tablespoons sugar. Bake at 450º∞F until browned, 20 to 25 minutes. Serve at once or while still quite warm, accompanied with vanilla ice cream if desired. Makes 4 servings.

Thank you to the Avon Garden Club for the beautiful flowers in the planters throughout the village and around the park. You all do a beautiful job. I especially love the flower cart. Thank you to the village crew for your help hanging the military banners and keeping our village looking so nice. The Memorial Day parade was great as usual. Thanks! On Thursday evening, June 14, after shopping, we stopped at Burger King on Eastern Blvd. in Canandaigua for a light supper meal. When we went to pay, we were informed that the gentleman ahead of us had already picked up the tab. What a wonderful gesture! We did not catch his name or address, so we can't acknowledge him personally. But we would at
I recently enjoyed a local town parade. But there was one float I didn't find appropriate. It had heavy metal music playing loudly, people with painted, blood-like faces, and other gory features. I know this is advertising for your Halloween party, but please, less creepy stuff ? There are children watching and I find some of the
least like to thank him in this venue for his kindness and generosity. . So, if he happens to be reading this, a heartfelt "thank you." In our 70+ years on this planet, we have never experienced anything like this before. Mike and Gerda Speziale, Naples, NY I have been running on the canal towpath for years and am finally getting around to publicly thanking the courteous town landscape crews that mow the grass along the towpath and in Perinton Park. I very much appreciate the way you pause your machines when pedestrians and bicyclists approach, not resuming until we are out of the line of fire from your grass
cutting equipment. Thank you! Many thanks to whoever turned my husband’s treasured sun glasses lost at the Bristol Fun Day on the 10th! They belonged to his father who died many years ago. The Ray Ban glasses in the battered original case were anything but impressive at first sight, so we were delighted when we called the Bristol Town Hall to learn they were found and safe. My husband was grieving the loss. What a tribute to kindness. Many blessings to the finder and the Town Hall Staff. Sincere Thanks to two individual Good Samaritans, who driving by on a very rainy and windy night, stopped to help us pull down a large tree branch in our yard that had broken and was
displays very disturbing. Kids are sensitive, and have very good memories. It's likely to give them nightmares! wife's birthday to come to this place. Our waitress was very friendly for the first 15 minutes lol. After that all went to bananas!!! Everything went wrong from A to Z to say the least. We are not the only customers who had this very bad experience. Our friends had it all. They never celebrated my wife's birthday with me. The owner was embarrassed by it. Not easy being a waitress I know but I still gave 20% tips…Come on.
We work so very hard to endure life's journey. Therefore, we want to go out to a very nice dinner with our hard earned money to have a great meal and service with the spouse and IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK? We have heard bad reviews about a local small town restaurant that specializes in Prime Ribs near our home, but we decided to give it a chance. I've made reservation for my
Just read with great agreement, the "Vent" of June 1, 2018, concerning residents in his town not taking care of their property. We too, live in a Rochester area town. We have watched as older residents, pass on or move away. The "new" residents DO NOT take care of their homes and/or yards. We have called our Town,
going to fall in the road. In addition, after they got it down, one of them had a chain saw and they cut up the limb and helped take the pieces out of the road. We doubt if we could have done this ourselves and could have been hurt while trying. Many thanks again from Bob and Debbie Joseph, Rt. 53, Ingleside, NY.
mailed our Supervisor, and all to no avail. As our Cities become more "Upscale", the more impoverished, head to the surrounding suburbs. Leading to "Urban Sprawl." Our street looks like a War Zone. Yards not mowed and trash just sitting by the roadside. Most do not have a trash collector. They expect the town to pick up garbage. We may have no choice, but to move out if things don't improve. This is getting crazy. Please, please people, take pride in our neighborhood!!! People still burn their garbage in Livingston County. It’s not allowed!! Does anyone know who I can contact? I have my windows open to air out my home and have to smell their garbage! Need help to give me information on who to call.

He served as a rifleman in the 260th Infantry Regiment of the 65th Infantry Division. After arriving in Germany in March of 1945, his regiment endured 55 straight days of combat as the U.S. Army advanced into Germany. Corporal Veeder received a Bronze Star for heroic and meritorious service during the Central European Campaign in 1945. Senator Young presented his family with his Bronze Star and other medals during the ceremony. “It was my honor to present Corporal Veeder’s family with the military medals he earned during his courageous service to our nation during World War II,” Senator Young said. “We cannot imagine the horrors Corporal Veeder faced during combat but, he faced them for us. He faced them to preserve America, democracy and freedom.”

TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.
Was Son Right to Ignore His Doctor’s Advice? --DEAR DR. ROACH: My son is 40 years old. After a recent stress test, he ended up with five stents in his arteries, and also was diagnosed with diabetes. His doctor ordered him not to go back to work for three or four weeks, but he went back after three days. He told the doctor that he would be more stressed if he stayed home. His job is mostly sitting down. Since he didn’t follow the advice, how will this affect his health? -- V.B. ANSWER: We don’t normally have people stay home for long periods of time after placement of stents, so I was surprised to hear that he was “ordered” (I almost never “order,” only recommend, more or less strongly) to stay home. My experience is that after receiving life-changing diagnoses, such as diabetes or coronary artery disease, it’s best to keep some habits, such as work, the same and change others. For your son, I am sure he will be recommended a proper diet for diabetes and exercise appropriate for a person with a new diagnosis of heart disease. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: I’ve suffered from essential tremor for 16 years. I take 500 mg of primidone and 40 mg of propranolol twice daily. I’ve gradually increased the dose over the years, and the combination works quite well. What is the highest dose of these medications that I can take? Also, are there any new drugs on the market that have been proven to help? -- S.S. ANSWER: Primidone, a medication indicated for seizures, often is used off-label for essential tremor. The normal dose for essential tremor is 250-500 mg at night, but doses up to 750 mg sometimes are used. For seizures, the highest recommended dose is 2,000 mg, so although yours is at the high end of normal for essential tremor (“essential,” by the way, simply means we don’t know what is causing it; it isn’t essential for anything), you still are at a dose that’s well below the safe limit. I suspect that because you have been on it for so long, your body is used to this dose. The usual starting dose is 25 mg. Propranolol is used for many conditions, including high blood pressure and preventing migraines, but its use in essential tremor also is off-label, meaning that the Food and Drug Administration has not approved the drug for use for this condition. “Off-label” doesn’t necessarily mean your prescription is wrong or dangerous, only that it hasn’t been approved by the FDA. In your case, the combination of primidone and propranolol frequently is used and recommended in the medical literature. For essential tremor, experts have recommended doses up to 320 mg per day, but the dose can be limited by slow heart rate or low blood pressure. If you are doing well, there is no reason to change. Other medications frequently used for essential tremor include gabapentin and topiramate. There also are surgical treatments, deep brain stimulation, gamma knife radiation and ultrasound for resistant cases. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Your Why buy life insurance? Facing one’s mortality and the prospect of leaving family members behind is not always easy. Death, financial security and planning for the future are all difficult subjects, but planning ahead can make matters much easier in the long run. Life insurance needs frequently come up when making plans, and many people find that purchasing a life insurance policy is a worthwhile investment. Life insurance holds an important place in overall financial planning. One of the most apparent benefits of life insurance is that it will provide a considerable sum of cash upon the insured’s death, which can be put toward the cost of funeral arrangements, housing and dependent care. Beyond end-of-life bills and care, life insurance can offer other advantages, say the experts at Allstate Insurance Company. Life insurance can provide a family with a financial safety net. When a beneficiary is named, life insurance can serve as an inheritance for that person or people. Heirs may face estate taxes after a loved one dies, and life insurance benefits may help offset all or a portion of the costs.
Business owners also can use life insurance policies to their advantage. Including life insurance with the list of other benefits offered to prospective employees can entice topnotch candidates. Sole proprietors may use life insurance as a business continuation plan so that insurance proceeds can keep the business in the black until it is sold or a replacement owner is found.
There may be benefits to life insurance while a person is living as well. The life insurance information site Term Life 2 Go says that, depending on the policy, life insurance can be borrowed against to pay off debt, buy a house or live off of dividends from the life insurance investment. This can provide a source of supplemental retirement income.
Shopping for life insurance requires careful research and an understanding of the products available. Consumers should have a thorough understanding of term and whole life policies, what premiums will cost, what the death benefit will pay, and if there are any living benefits. For example, living benefits may cover some costs for chronically or terminally ill people.
Gateway Financial advisors say that many life insurance plans Working with an experienced life insurance advisor can help are extremely flexible and can be modified as needs change. Death benefits may be decreased if desired, and premiums can people navigate the types of policies available to them. be skipped, reduced or increased.

Statistics from U.S. Youth Soccer indicate that millions of children across the country are taking to the sport that was once primarily associated with Europe and other parts of the world beyond the United States. According to U.S. Youth Soccer, more than three million youth players were registered to play soccer in 2014. That marks an amazing increase from just 40 years earlier, when barely more than 100,000 youths registered to play soccer. While the reasons behind the growing popularity of soccer within the United States are not officially known, one might reasonably trace American youths’ embrace of the sport to the U.S. Men’s National Team’s appearance in the 1990 World Cup. Though the team was defeated in each of its three matches in the 1990 World Cup, the appearance marked the United States’ first since 1950. In fact, participation in youth soccer in the United States in 2014 marked an 89 percent increase since 1990. In addition, the United States hosted the 1994 World Cup, likely generating even more interest in soccer, which many American youths now consider their favorite sport.

Beat the heat during a summer wedding Tailor the reception menu to the weather. A large, heavy meal may not be what guests are hoping for when temperatures are especially hot. In such situations, provide some cool, light fare, such as chilled salads or cold soups, as first courses. Sorbet can be a cool palate cleanser, and grilled meats and vegetables will make for a satisfying, light main course. Ice cream cake may be a decadent option in lieu of more traditional wedding cake.

ADVICE FOR A SUCCESSFUL CAREER CHANGE Research the job market. Look into the industries for the field you are considering. Is it the right time for success in this field? Industries tend to ebb and flow. Do not leave a job only to find the next career has few, if any, openings. Job growth projections are available through resources like the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
DID YOU KNOW? Numerous studies have found that vacationing produces a host of health benefits. The ongoing Framingham Heart Study, which began in 1948 and is currently studying its third generation of participants, found that men who did not take a vacation for several years were 30 percent more likely to have heart attacks than men who took time off. In addition, the FHS found women who take a vacation only once every six years or less were nearly eight times as likely to develop coronary heart disease or have a heart attack as women who vacation at least twice per year. Vacations also have been linked to lower stress levels, as a study from the American Psychological Association concluded that vacations reduce stress by removing people from activities and environments that are the sources of their stress. Vacations can even benefit employers, as an internal study from the professional services firm Ernst & Young found that employees’ year-end performance ratings improved by 8 percent for each additional 10 hours of vacation time they took.
