ARIES (March 21 to April 19) A pesky health problem should clear up soon. Meanwhile, travel -- both for personal as well as for business reasons -- is strong in the Aries aspect this week, and well into the next. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Look for Bovines to be on the move this week, whether it’s traveling for fun or for business. Other “moves” include workplace adjustments and, for some, relationship changes. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Geminis who have just gone through a hectic period involving job and/or family matters might want to take some well-earned time out to relax and restore those drained energy levels. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) A romantic situation seems to have stalled, just when the Moon Child was expecting it to go forward. Could that be a bad case of miscommunication going on. Talk it over openly and honestly. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Showing a genuine interest in something that’s important to a friend, family member or colleague could open a communication line that had been pretty much shut down for a while. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Making a potentially life-changing decision takes as much knowledge as you can gather, plus determination and patience. Take your time working it out. Don’t let anyone rush you. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) You should be back on schedule and heading in the right direction after clearing up a misunderstanding. But there could still be some setbacks. If so, correct them immediately. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) A business matter keeps you pretty busy, but try to squeeze in time to be with family as well as close friends. You need the good vibrations you get from people who care for you. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Investing in an attractive prospect (business or personal) with little or no information can be risky. Avoid future problems by getting all the facts before you act. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Someone close to you might have an unexpected reaction to a decision you feel you’re prepared to make. Listen to his or her point of view. It could prove to be surprisingly helpful. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Don’t give up yet. That once warm, personal relationship that seems to be cooling off fast could recover with some tender, loving care, and who better than you to provide it? PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Career matters are strong this week. You might want to enter a training program to enhance your skills. Also, consider getting professional help in preparing a brilliant resume. BORN THIS WEEK: You have a way of respecting the feelings of others, which is one reason people feel comfortable having you in their lives.

SPRING CLEANING PROJECTS YOU DON’T WANT TO FORGET MOMENTS IN TIME The History Channel On March 13, 1942, the Quartermaster Corps of the U.S. Army begins training dogs for the newly established War Dog Program, or “K-9 Corps.”
Spring cleaning is an annual tradition in many households. After a w inter spent cooped up indoors, spring cleaning can rejuvenate a household and provide a great chance to rid a home of a season’s w orth of clutter. Donating old clothes and cleaning out the garage are popular spring cleaning projects, but there are a host of additional tasks homeow ners can tackle to freshen up their homes this spring.

SMELLY FIREPLACE? After a long season of use, fireplaces need to be cleaned. Many homeowners think this is a job that can be put off until the fall, but spring is an ideal season to have the chimney and flue cleaned and inspected. One reason to include scrubbing the chimney as part of spring cleaning is to cut down on odor. After using a fireplace, a buildup of creosote forms in the chimney. As the weather gets warmer, creosote deposits can start to smell sour and that odor will seep into the home. In addition, moisture can mix with the creosote and start to degrade the flue liner, necessitating costly repairs. The sooner a chimney and flue are cleaned the better. A chimney sweep can do a thorough job of scrubbing down the chimney and fireplace and ensuring that everything will be in working order come next season.

Hearing Loss Is Treatable!
TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.
Let the experts at Professional Hearing Solutions help you get back to hearing life in high definition!
Does Ulcerative Colitis Preclude Pregnancy?
Call Dr. Christine Stein at Professional Hearing Solutions... she provides quality care in a warm, friendly environment.
---
DEAR DR. ROACH: I need some hope. My 24-year-old granddaughter, recently married, came down with ulcerative colitis. Right now, she is getting two Humira injections a month. She has lost so much weight and her diet is so limited. Do things normally get better? Will she ever be able to become pregnant? It has been about four months. She is presently seeing a GI doctor. Should she be under the care of a specialist? -- L.M.O.S. ANSWER: Ulcerative colitis is one of the inflammatory bowel diseases. The underlying cause is not known, but there is a familial predisposition. Women are more often diagnosed, and the leading time of diagnosis is in the 20s. There is a wide range of severity, with some people doing well with topical treatments (suppositories or enemas), some needing oral medication, and people with more severe disease needing much more powerful agents, such as the adalimumab (Humira) your granddaughter needs. Fortunately, those kinds of drugs have approximately a 60% to 70% success rate. Diet is important for people with UC of any severity; however, as the disease becomes better controlled it is likely that she will have a less restricted diet. A GI doctor is a gastroenterologist, the specialist for inflammatory bowel diseases. There are some gastroenterologists who specialize even further, making IBD their area of particular expertise. Pregnancy is certainly possible in women with IBD. However, they should be in remission before attempting pregnancy, and her medications may need to be adjusted for maximum safety. There are many places to get additional information, but I recommend the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation website as an excellent starting point. It can be found at www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org.

Magic Maze WORDS OF ANGER
***
DEAR DR. ROACH: Last year, I started getting Raynaud’s. I can remember from my youth that my father had it, so it didn’t seem too terrible. It’s not just the fingertips that turn white, but also some of my toes are affected. I asked people who know of it or have it how one gets this. What is the cause? No one knows. So I asked my doctor, and even he said he did not know. How do I get these episodes, and what can I do to prevent them? -- R.S. ANSWER: Raynaud phenomenon is an exaggerated response to cold or stress, causing color changes in the skin of the fingers and toes. There is a long list of causes of Raynaud phenomenon. Often, no cause is ever found (in which case it is called primary Raynaud, which just means we don’t know what’s causing it). The most common known causes are the autoimmune rheumatic diseases, especially scleroderma, lupus and Sjogren’s syndrome. Hypothyroidism is an unusual cause, and some drugs can cause it as well. The current thinking is that primary RP is caused by abnormalities in the alpha receptors in blood vessels (alpha receptors respond to adrenaline and similar molecules). Keeping the whole body -- and especially the hands -- warm is the first step. Sudden temperature changes can trigger the effect. Warming the hands in warm water at the onset of an attack can stop it. Anxiety makes it worse, so a positive attitude can really affect this condition. Medications, such as amlodipine, may be necessary for prevention in more severe cases. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. How to practice social distancing during a pandemic
A Look Back… MOMENTS IN TIME The History Channel --* On March 22, 1765, in an effort to raise funds to pay off debts, the British government passes the Stamp Act. It levied a direct tax on all materials printed for commercial and legal use in the colonies, from newspapers and pamphlets to playing cards and dice. * On March 21, 1804, the Napoleonic Code is approved in France. The Code strengthened the authority of men over their families, deprived women of any individual rights, and reduced the rights of illegitimate children. All male citizens also were granted equal rights under the law, but colonial slavery was reintroduced. * On March 20, 1852, Harriet Beecher Stowe’s anti-slavery novel, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” is published. The novel was so widely read that when President Abraham Lincoln met Stowe, he reportedly said, “So this is the little lady who made this big war.”
Social distancing protocols encourage people to avoid crowds, such as those at concerts and sporting events. As COVID-19 continued to spread across the world, it quickly became evident that the public would have to take drastic measures to slow the transmission. In addition to practicing generalized sanitation and good hygiene, people in some of the hardest-hit clusters were advised to take additional, more aggressive measures. Quarantines and travel restrictions were implemented, and the term "social distancing" became a buzzword. Social distancing involves people keeping a physical distance from each other during disease outbreaks in order to slow transmission rates. Social distancing also is employed to lessen the impact of the disease on the medical care system, which quickly can become overwhelmed with a high number of cases presenting in a short period of time. In best-case scenarios, social distancing also may enable a few people to avoid infection until a vaccine is available. So how can people socially distance themselves? Here are some of the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and other leading health groups. · Opt out of group events. Steer clear of events, whether meetings, sports games, conferences, and other gatherings where large amounts of people congregate together. · Stick to non-contact greetings. Avoid hugs, kisses and handshakes. Substitute a smile, a wave or a bumping of elbows, instead. · Work from home. Many companies are now equipped to allow employees to work from home all the time or a portion of the time. Businesses can encourage employees to stay home and utilize the internet to get their work done. · Alter shopping schedules. Try to visit stores in the early morning or late at night when they are less likely to be crowded. · Make changes in worship practices. Celebrants may have to make modifications to the way they worship. The Catholic Diocese of Trenton, NJ, recently advised all diocesan churches to halt the distribution of the most precious blood (wine) from communal chalices; encouraged clergy and eucharistic ministers to sanitize their hands before
distributing the eucharist; and parishioners to avoid contact during the sign of peace. Common sense is key to stall disease transmission, and social distancing can be an important public health measure. TF204940 GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

264-0076 STRANGE BUT TRUE By Lucie Winbourne You’ve probably never heard of Countess Rosa Branicka, but she accomplished an amazing feat. In the mid-19th century, at the age of 63, the wealthy Polish noblewoman became ill. The diagnosis given by experts in Germany was breast cancer, and immediate surgery was recommended. For reasons unknown, the countess declined the treatment, then set about purchasing her own surgical instruments. Once all the tools were assembled, Branicka checked into a hotel in Paris and removed the tumor herself. Reports indicate that she healed well and quickly, and lived to the ripe old age of 82.
HOW DO WE KNOW LASIK IS SAFE? (NAPSI)—For those thinking about their vision correction options, the question “Is LASIK safe?” is likely top of mind. To answer, ophthalmologist and chair of the Refractive Surgery Clinical Committee for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, John Vukich, M.D., provides hard data: LASIK has been around for a long time, 20 years, with 19.1 million procedures in the U.S. alone. An enormous amount of research has been conducted: There are more than 7,000 peer-reviewed clinical studies on LASIK performance, safety and outcomes. Based on that science, we know LASIK is very safe and has a less than 1 percent risk of sight-threatening complications. In fact, studies show LASIK is safer than long-term contact lens wear, where the risk of infection is actually pretty high. The patient satisfaction rate with LASIK is more than 96 percent, the highest of any elective medical procedure available today. However, LASIK isn’t for everyone. The only way to know for certain is to have a thorough eye exam with a highly qualified refractive surgeon to find out if you are a good candidate and then decide if it is right for you and your vision. How to Succeed at
Socially Distancing According to your Zodiac Sign Aries (Mar 21-Apr 19): You love a little competition. Try out a new fitness regimen, like the Couch to 5k program, and plan a future race or marathon. Taurus (Apr 20-May 20): Your home always looks great, but a little re-decorating never hurt anyone! Pro tip: take pictures of each room on your phone first to get an objective view of what you would like to change. Gemini (May 21-Jun 20): That good idea you’ve been sitting on? It’s time to come up with a stellar business plan. Don’t know where to start? Resist the isolating internet this time, and try emailing a local business leader you admire to set up a phone call – they would love to help, and the time to network is now! Cancer (Jun 21-Jul 22): You hate the idea of avoiding the people you love, but they understand and really do appreciate your thoughtfulness. Get close instead to the authors that inspire you. Copy out a paragraph you especially love, then give the story your own spin. Have your family do the same, then compare your creations! Leo (Jul 23-Aug 22): This is a time of opportunity for you. The stock market is on sale and you are not afraid to buy! Stay modest and share your passion for finance with the kids in your family by helping them set up virtual investment accounts through online games like Wall Street Survivor. Virgo (Aug 23-Sep 22): Your desire for organization is finally going to be satisfied! Make things more pinteresting by tapping into your creativity to develop some new DIY storage hacks. Marie Kondo has nothing on you! Libra (Sep 23-Oct 22): Your naturally social self will have to find expression in more creative ways. Start an initiative focusing on what can be done to help maintain the vitality of the small businesses in your area, like buying gift cards online or over the phone to use later on.

Isolation got you down? Here’s some fun suggestions on how you can help
“flatten the curve” now! Scorpio (Oct 23-Nov 21): Everything is an argument nowadays! By sharpening your own debate skills, you might actually build bridges instead of burning them. Get started with a fun read like Mastering Logical Fallacies (Withey) before turning to the prisoner’s dilemma. Is it time for a career in politics? Sagittarius (Nov 22-Dec 21): Your professional success is borne of your energy and enthusiasm. Channel these traits into refreshing the space around your home, like a garden or deck. It might seem like slow going at first, but “it does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop” (Confucius). Your investment will be rewarded sooner rather than later. Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 19): Staying at home for you means expanding your reach! Move out of your comfort zone and organize friends and family to write cards for residents of the local nursing homes. The joy of small, random acts of kindness will spread to all areas of your life. Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 18): Your bunker is filled with nothing but sheet masks, foie gras and red wine. Good thing, too, because the Metropolitan Opera is offering “Nightly Met Opera Streams” for free every evening at 7:30pm at metopera.org. If you’re fancy and you know it clap your hands! Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20): Now is the time to become the master chef you always knew you were! Make your meal plan, break out the cookbooks and get to it. Remember to take your time and enjoy the process. By offering to safely deliver meals to those in need, your culinary fame will only increase.

A delightful surprise on March 5, 2020 at Cracker Barrel, Henrietta when my lunch bill was paid by someone unknown to me. I have heard of this happening to others but never expected to be the recipient of such a thoughtful gesture. It made my day in fact, probably the whole week! And I certainly will “Pay It Forward!”
Thank you to the kind people who started the Avon Acts/Community Needs Facebook page. Community members are supporting each other by offering hard-to-find items, support and resources, filling requests for help and just general kindness. All Cindy from the safety of home.
My son is heavily into collecting basketball cards, but we have not been able to find any. The shelves are always bare, and the stock man said that grown men are following him and buying up all the cards for eBay value. Thanks. I bet when you grown men were little, the grown men at that time let you enjoy card collecting. I bet you even had a binder full! Thursday the 12th, we had a service call with Spectrum because of difficulties we were experiencing. I was very hesitant because it was quite bothersome not having internet and phone service. I didn’t know what to expect. We were at our wit’s end. Well, I was very pleased with the TQA representative they sent to our home. Ryan was right on spot, courteous, and did indeed find the problems. He rectified them, explained what was going on, and I am very pleased and satisfied. He renewed my faith in Spectrum. Thank you very much for your help, Ryan.

This is for the people who have a pet cat that they don’t want anymore and decide to drop it off on my property to let it roam because I have a lot of barns. In the past, I know one cat was taken to the hospital for mental health issues, one was taken to jail for trespassing, and two were eaten by coyotes. I’m not sure about the others. Now if you can’t afford to put an ad in the newspaper to give your pet a new home for free or if you can’t take it to the Humane Society or Lollypop Farm, then knock on my door, tell me the cat's name and drop off some food once a month.

orth Winton Village has a new work of art for residents and visitors alike to appreciate, experience and enjoy. Serbian-born, Toronto-based Artist Viktor Mitic’s Neutrino Star, a near twin to his Lyric Star on display at the Toronto Marriott Markham in Ontario, Canada, is an approximately 11-foot by 3-foot, multicolored, aluminum steel hanging sculpture which appears to float in midair. Mitic, who has become well known for his bullet hole paintings among other artistic works, has several items on display at Rochester’s Artisan Works and began crafting the Neutrino Star from upcycled materials in 2015. “There are a lot of materials out there,” observed Mitic. “It is crazy how much we discard, and so many of these things are useful and interesting. The aluminum I used here was out of cutoffs from an industrial site, and it is important to me to use these materials in the right way.” His inspiration for the piece was somewhat unusual. “The shapes that I used were created from photographs I took of paint drippings on the floor of my studio,” explained Mitic. He enlarged and enhanced the photographs on his computer before cutting out them out with a laser cutting machine. He then began painting the pieces from the center of the three-dimensional work. “They form a circular, cylindrical sense of motion,” Mitic pointed out. The large sculptural piece is non-representative and meant to hang 1218” from the edge of wherever it is mounted. This makes the nearly one-ton piece appear to float freely in midair. Such a large piece was certainly challenging to ship, requiring careful and extensive wrapping and packaging even before being rolled out of the door by means of pipes. “We made it out by an inch!” recalled Mitic. “It is what I do, and it doesn’t bother me at all. A lot of people are going to see it; and it is going to be there permanently.”

bronze along with high-end paint such as Lamborghini paint, Mitic is, as always, expanding his horizons. “I am working more and more on a larger scale, and I’m adding T H E N E A R LY O N E -TO N precious metals to the sculpture choice,” said P I E C E A P P E A R S TO Mitic. “It is more costly, F LOAT I N M I DA I R ! so you have to be really careful what you do and be even more careful when you move these pieces.” Another Mitic sculpture, Purple Heart, a free standing, multicolored sculpture atop a concrete pad, was recently installed on top of a building in Columbo, Sri Lanka. He is currently working on installations for a gallery in Quebec, Ontario, Vancouver, British Columbia and New York City. The NYC piece is expected to be an approximately 9 foot tall creation of 24 karat gold and stainless steel. It is awesome!"
When asked about his shift to sculptural work, Mitic replied that art is a constant evolution. “Since the beginning, I have continued to work in different and changing styles,” he stated. The process itself is somewhat less dynamic for Mitic as it is a little slower and more massive. He explained that there is a lot more involved including a whole moving and setup crew, permits and permissions from various authorities and even that the police are sometimes involved to stop traffic as needed because they are moving a large object. “It involves a lot more planning,” Mitic explained. “In terms of exhibiting, you cannot simply wrap it and place it in your vehicle as you might do with a painting. These sculptures require trucks, crates, packing and wrapping. You have to think in terms of durability of the materials, safety concerns and maintenance, as well.”
