Message to the Community
Welcome to the 2023 Honeoye Falls-Mendon Business Directory sponsored by the Honeoye Falls-Mendon Rotary Club. As Club President, I would like to let you know a little bit about who we are and what we do.
Rotarians live by a simple philosophy; Service Above Self. We are a group of great people having fun serving our community and the world. There are 1.22 million members in 34,500+ clubs in approximately 200 countries throughout the world. Rotary is the largest and oldest service organization in the world. The basic principles and causes of Rotary are on pages 12-13 of this directory.
We are your neighbors and your friends. The work we do can be seen throughout the community. We built the pavilion in Rotary Park. We refurbished the Mendon Community Playground. We cleaned up the local waterways on Earth Day. We have many community
service projects, both large and small, and our work is ongoing.
Each year, we deliver Christmas trees to families in need and we sponsor a free breakfast with Santa Claus at Flaherty’s where we take collections for the Honeoye Falls Food Cupboard. We helped plant trees and bushes at the Mendon Public Library and around Honeoye Falls and Mendon. We are the Chartered Organization for Boy Scouts Troops 10 and 410 and Cub Scouts Pack 10. This is just a small sample of the projects we do locally. We would like you to join us in making our community and our world a better place. We meet for dinner most Wednesdays at 6:15 pm at Flaherty’s. Come as a guest and we will buy you dinner, no obligation. You can learn more on the Rotary International website (rotary.org) and our website (hfmrotary.org), or give me a call at 585-454-2000. Thank you.

ROTARY CLUB
The Honeoye
FallsMendon Rotarians raise money to help local charities through several yearly events, including a golf tournament and Casino Night.
Rotary is dedicated to seven areas of focus to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever.
Our Causes
PROMOTING PEACE
Rotary encourages conversations to foster understanding within and across cultures. We train adults and young leaders to prevent and mediate conflict and help refugees who have fled dangerous areas.
FIGHTING DISEASE
We educate and equip communities to stop the spread of life-threatening diseases like polio, HIV/AIDS, and malaria. We improve and expand access to low-cost and free health care in developing areas.
PROVIDING CLEAN WATER, SANITATION, AND HYGIENE
We support local solutions to bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to more people every day. We don’t just build wells and walk away. We share our expertise with community leaders and educators to make sure our projects succeed long-term.
SAVING MOTHERS AND CHILDREN
Nearly 6 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and their children can live and grow stronger.
SUPPORTING EDUCATION
More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
GROWING LOCAL ECONOMIES
We carry out service projects that enhance economic and community development and create opportunities for decent and productive work for young and old. We also strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.
PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
Rotary members are tackling environmental issues the way they always do: coming up with projects, using their connections to change policy and planning for the future.

Splash Park and Military Memorial at Semmel Road Park
Dreisbach Fields, Semmel Road, Honeoye Falls
Following the January 2021 crash of the Army National Guard helicopter that took the life of three local soldiers, including Chief Warrant Officer 4 Christian Koch of Honeoye Falls, a town of Mendon commission plans a permanent military memorial and splash park to benefit the community at Semmel Road Park.
The Memorial Monument will be a place of somber reflection to memorialize the servicemen’s lives, service, sacrifice, and mission, while the splash park accommodates the families’ wishes for a place for people of all ages to gather and learn about the men
while treasuring life. Koch’s wife, Teressa DaGama, said “Christian would love a splash park and would have taken the kids there often.”
In the proposed memorial, snow geese symbolize the servicemen’s reliability, ambition, tenacity, strong work ethic, cooperation, family, and loyalty. The surviving families and the rest of the community will enjoy this park for years to come. townofmendon.org/ community/splashpark/

CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Points of Cougar Pride
By Gene Mancuso, Superintendent of SchoolsWELCOME TO HF-L
Welcome to the Honeoye Falls-Lima School Community. Our District’s commitment to continuous improvement and to keeping our students at the heart of every decision we make is apparent in all we do. We set high standards for performance through our Strategic Plan, and are able to achieve these high expectations in large part because of the commitment of our Board of Education, staff members and community members. Members of our community participate in our schools in a variety of ways—from volunteering in classrooms to participating in program-budget planning. We take great pride in the strong partnership between our community and schools that we have built by working together.
OUR DISTRICT
The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District was established in 1969 through a merger of the neighboring Honeoye Falls and Lima School Districts. Honeoye Falls, originally known as Norton’s Mills, was founded in 1791. Lima was founded three years later. Our District comprises 74 square miles and nine towns in three counties: Monroe County (Mendon, Henrietta and Rush); Livingston County (Avon, Lima and Livonia) and Ontario (Victor, West Bloomfield and Richmond).
The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District serves a student population of approximately 2,500. Our District includes four schools located on separate sites: Lima Primary (K-1); Manor Elementary (2-5); Middle School (6-8); and High School (9-12).
Our students benefit from many exciting and innovative programs, as well as enrichment opportunities. Advanced Placement classes are offered in art, biology, environmental, accounting, AB calculus, BC calculus, chemistry, French, English literature, English composition, macroeconomics,
American government, American history, European history, comparative government & politics, Latin, physics, statistics, psychology, Spanish, and Pre-AP humanities. The program is internationally recognized as a rigorous college-level learning experience during which students research, debate and conduct inquiry on global issues of importance. It brings our high school students closer to “world class” performance. In addition, we offer instrumental music for students in grades 4-12, and numerous interscholastic sports, such as baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, diving, track and field, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing (Nordic and Alpine), soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball and wrestling. Our students achieve excellent results in a wide variety of sports and academic competitions.
OUR VISION
The Honeoye Falls-Lima School District’s collective curiosity, energy, enthusiasm and dedication drive our daily pursuit of excellence. As a centerpiece in the community, we will provide a caring, respectful, and educationally challenging environment that values and listens to its members. With our community, we will create a learning organization that provides a world-class education for our students. Teaching, learning and high standards will provide our graduates with a world-class education that will prepare them to compete in a continuously changing world.
Our graduates will think critically, creatively and independently, communicate effectively, solve problems and work cooperatively. They will be well-rounded and highly skilled in the use of languages, mathematics and the sciences. Our students will understand and appreciate diversity. They will have a variety of experiences and an appreciation for the arts. They will be self-directed learners, grounded in ethics and prepared to accept the responsibilities of a contributing member of our local and the global community.
STRATEGIC PLANNING AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Our strategic planning process welcomes community members as active participants. A number of goals, or
strategic intents, are established around key academic areas. The intents are monitored throughout the year to identify any adjustments that may be needed in program implementation.
Comprehensive and ongoing feedback from District residents, parents, students and staff drive our efforts toward continuous improvement. Residents are encouraged to attend school board meetings, which are regularly held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 pm in the Board of Education Room at the HF-L High School. We also encourage residents to take part in program budget planning and the Strategic Planning process. Contact the Superintendent’s Office for further information.
