Welcome to the 2022 Honeoye Falls-Mendon Business Directory sponsored by the Honeoye Falls-Mendon Rotary Club. As Club President, I would like to let you know a little bit about who we are and what we do. Rotarians live by a simple philosophy; Service Above Self. We are a group of great people having fun serving our community and the world. There are 1.22 million members in 34,500+ clubs in approximately 200 countries throughout the world. Rotary is the largest and oldest service organization in the world. The basic principles of Rotary are on page 11 of this directory. You can find the Causes of Rotary International on page 10. We are your neighbors and your friends. The work we do can be seen throughout the community. We built the pavilion in Rotary Park. We refurbished the Mendon Community Playground. We cleaned up the local waterways on Earth Day. We have many community service projects, both large and small, and our work is ongoing. Each year, we deliver Christmas trees to families in need and we sponsor a free breakfast with Santa Claus at Flaherty’s where we take collections for the Honeoye Falls Food Cupboard. We helped plant trees and bushes at the Mendon Public Library and around Honeoye Falls and Mendon. We are the Chartered Organization for Boy Scouts Troops 10 and 410 and Cub Scouts Pack 10. This is just a small sample of the projects we do locally. We would like you to join us in making our community and our world a better place. We meet for dinner most Wednesdays at 6:15 pm at Flaherty’s. Come as a guest and we will buy you dinner, no obligation. Village of Honeoye Falls

Honeoye Falls, a small historic village of approximately 2,600 people, is located in the southeastern most corner of Monroe County, about thirteen miles from the City of Rochester. The Village was founded in 1791 by Zebulon Norton, who purchased 1,820 acres of land for 12 1/2 cents per acre. Norton established the mode of life for the community by building a grist mill and later a saw mill to encourage settlers to this area of upper New York State. Throughout its history, Honeoye Falls has been able to retain its small town charm. We encourage you to explore all that we have to offer in natural beauty, richness of history, family-oriented activities, festivals and outstanding schools.

Town of Mendon

The Town of Mendon is a rural community in the Eastern Genesee Valley and Finger Lakes Regions of Upstate New York. Stretching along the southeastern portion of Monroe County and bordering the Town of Lima, Livingston County and the Town of Bloomfield, Ontario County, Mendon boasts the county’s highest elevations, topping 1,028 feet above sea level. Mendon is well-known for its history, scenic views and farmlands. Like many rural communities, agriculture remains Mendon’s economic strength and corn is perhaps the largest harvested crop. Another strong attribute of our area is our schools. With Pittsford and Honeoye Falls-Lima Schools leading the way, student education in Mendon is among the very best in the country.

Big City Conveniences in a Small Town

You do not need to go far to have great places to shop for anything you need. Here you have big city amenities, combined with small town character. The shopping areas of the Village and Town boast supermarkets, a brewery, coffee shops, gift shops, drug stores, dry cleaning establishments, a shoe store, a gardening outlet, and a hardware store, just to name a few. Other conveniences available are advantageously located throughout the area and include banks, hair salons and spas, restaurants, fitness centers, and a bowling alley. You will also find services usually only found in larger communities: attorneys, doctors, dentists, insurance agencies, childcare centers, optometrists, and veterinarians all have offices located within walking distances of the Village and Town shopping areas. We encourage you to shop locally. Local independent businesses invest more in our communities, schools and local charities.

The Village Hall

Built in 1886, where the Iron Fireman rides at the top of the tower, the building has been used for many purposes from governmental offices to the Fire Department to Vaudeville acts and a movie house.

The Town Hall

Known as the “Upper Mill,” this is the site where Zebulon Norton built his first mill in 1791. In addition to a mill, the building served as a restaurant from 1972 until 1985, when the Town of Mendon purchased it and converted it into the Town Hall.

Harry Allen Park

This was land donated by Dr. Harry Allen and has been the site of three different schools. It has a beautiful gazebo and currently is home to our “Movies in the Park.”

Mendon Ponds Park

Mendon Ponds Park is the largest Monroe County Park with 2,500 acres of woodlands, ponds, wetlands and glacially created landforms. In 1969, it was named to the National Registry of Natural Landmarks due to its geologic history and presence of significant kames, eskers, and kettles.

Mendon Trail Park

This is a 900-foot segment of the Lehigh Valley Trail that runs through Rush and Mendon. It is currently in the planning stage for exciting new improvements. Try a walk along the trail and experience total quiet and natural beauty.

The Old Lehigh Valley Station

This is located on Lehigh Street and is one of three railroad depots in the Norton Street area. From the mid-1800s until the early-1960s Honeoye Falls had regular rail service. Welcome to the Honeoye Falls-Lima School Community. Our District’s commitment to continuous improvement and to keeping our students at the heart of every decision we make is apparent in all we do. We set high standards for performance through our Strategic Plan, and are able to achieve these high expectations in large part because of the commitment of our Board of Education, staff members and community members. Members of our community participate in our schools in a variety of ways—from volunteering in classrooms to participating in program-budget planning. We take great pride in the strong partnership between our community and schools that we have built by working together.

OUR DISTRICT

The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District was established in 1969 through a merger of the neighboring Honeoye Falls and Lima School Districts. Honeoye Falls, originally known as Norton’s Mills, was founded in 1791. Lima was founded three years later. Our District comprises 74 square miles and nine towns in three counties: Monroe County (Mendon, Henrietta and Rush); Livingston County (Avon, Lima and Livonia) and Ontario (Victor, West Bloomfield and Richmond).

The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District serves a student population of approximately 2,500. Our District includes four schools located on separate sites: Lima Primary (K-1); Manor Elementary (2-5); Middle School (6-8); and High School (9-12). Our students benefit from many exciting and innovative programs, as well as enrichment opportunities. Advanced Placement classes are offered in art, biology, environmental, accounting, AB calculus, BC calculus, chemistry, French, English literature, English composition, macroeconomics, American government, American history, European history, comparative government & politics, Latin, physics, statistics, psychology, Spanish, and Pre-AP humanities. The program is internationally recognized as a rigorous college-level learning experience during which students research, debate and conduct inquiry on global issues of importance. It brings our high school students closer to “world class” performance. In addition, we offer instrumental music for students in grades 4-12, and numerous interscholastic sports, such as baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross-country, diving, track and field, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing (Nordic and Alpine), soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball and wrestling. Our students achieve excellent results in a wide variety of sports and academic competitions.

STRATEGIC PLANNING AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

Our strategic planning process welcomes community members as active participants. A number of goals, or strategic intents, are established around key academic areas. The intents are monitored throughout the year to identify any adjustments that may be needed in program implementation. Comprehensive and ongoing feedback from District residents, parents, students and staff drive our efforts toward continuous improvement. Residents are encouraged to attend school board meetings, which are regularly held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 pm in the Board of Education Room at the HF-L High School.
