Hello, I'm I was adopted almost 8 years ago, when I was 8 weeks old. I am a mixed breed cat. I am a real sassy-pants in all ways. I don't really enjoy being picked up or cuddled. If someone picks me up or I feel like getting into trouble, my pupils increase in size so much there is only a very thin ring of my actual eye color (yellow). Although I do enjoy gentle headbutts. My favorite pastime is napping, and I LOVE cat treats! :)

BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH ANIMAL TRAINERS Animal trainers can address any type of behavior. According to the Animal Behavior Institute, trainers who work with dogs, cats, parrots, or other companion animals must have a thorough and detailed knowledge of animal behavior. Pet owners who have successfully housebroken puppies in the past may think they can do it again with relative ease, but no two puppies are the same. Techniques that worked with one dog will not necessarily work with another. Trainers recognize this and have an array of techniques within their arsenal, making them capable of addressing and correcting any type of behavior.

HOW TO M AKE OLDER HOM ES M ORE ENERGY EFFICIENT Add insulation. M any older homes are poorly insulated. But according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, adding insulation can reduce energy costs by as much as 50 percent. Installing insulation can be tricky, especially if insulation w as not originally included in your home, as is sometimes the case w ith older homes. Insulation can become damp and prove ineffective if installed improperly. Damp insulation also may contribute to mold grow th and rot in the home’s framing. Older homes may be lacking adequate insulation around attics, craw l spaces, basements, heating and cooling ducts, and w ater pipes. Cover your w ater heater w ith an insulated w ater heater blanket so the heater retains more heat and consumes less energy to heat the w ater.

PREP-YOUR-PLACE POINTERS (NAPSI)—Many people may be surprised to learn that fall is actually the most affordable season for home prep and repair projects. There’s less demand, so homeowners enjoy breaks on equipment and services. An easy place to begin is at the window. Cracked and warped windows can often cause heat to escape. “Windows that produce a draft or feel cold on the inside should be replaced,” explains Richard Kasunic, a home repair expert with Window Nation, one of the country’s leading window replacement companies. Modern vinyl windows fit tightly to shield homes from wind, water infiltration and inclement weather overall. With that said, many homeowners have older windows and are often “heating the outside,” adds Kasunic. “On average, homeowners spend 40 percent of their utility expense dollars on heating and cooling,” he says. “But if new windows aren’t in this year’s home budget, you might want to pick up insulated curtains, window and door gap seals, and add draft snakes on windowsills.”

“Serving the Community Since 1954” 585-346-5705 5833 Big Tree Road, Lakeville Mon.-Fri., 7:30am-5:30pm; Sat., 8am-3pm; Sun., 10am-1pm www.smithlumber.doitbest.com Gift Certificates Available

He also suggests replacing the weather stripping around doors if you see any light around the edges. For less than $10, you can likely reduce electrical bills throughout the year. Beyond windows and doors, exterior outlets, plumbing and utility access, chimneys and walkways should be sealed for unwanted holes, says Kasunic. And homeowners should have their furnaces and roofs professionally cleaned and inspected. Finally, cover the water heater and change the furnace filter so your furnace doesn’t have to work as hard. If you are thinking of new windows, Kasunic agrees that this is the best time for both availability and price. Learn More: For further facts and advice, go to www.windownation.com. CARE FOR TOOLS PROPERLY Homeowners often choose to save money and learn valuable skills by doing their own home improvement projects. These minor or major renovations are made much more successful by having the right tools for the job. Investing in good tools can be smart, but those tools are only effective if they are accessible and in good repair. Homeowners who emphasize taking care of their tools can make DIY projects that much easier and more rewarding.

RESTORE RUSTY TOOLS Many people may be tempted to discard rusty tools that have gone unused and sat in a garage or shed for a significant period of time. But tools encrusted with rust do not need to be relegated to the trash bin, nor do gardeners have to toil for hours scraping and sanding off the rust. There’s a much easier way to restore rusty tools that relies on a common household ingredient: vinegar. Pour vinegar into a deep enough vessel to submerge the metal part of the tool. Soak the tool overnight. The next day, use a scouring pad to rub off the rust. If the tool is too big to fit into a can or bucket, simply wrap it with a vinegarsoaked rag and cover the whole tool with a tightly secured plastic bag. Follow the same procedure the next day. After all the rust is gone, rinse the tool in cool water and dry thoroughly. Then return it to regular usage.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) That lower-thanacceptable performance you’re getting from others in your group might be the result of miscommunication. If so, correct it before serious problems arise later on. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) An unexpected situation could call for a change of plans. If so, you might feel that this is unfair. But it’s best to make the needed adjustments now. There’ll be time later for rescheduling. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) The new year brings opportunities you might want to look into. Some might be more interesting than others. But take time to look at all of them before you make any decisions. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) It’s a good idea to be careful about expenses until you’ve worked out that pesky financial problem. You might find it advisable to get some solid advice on how to proceed. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Romance looms large over the Leonine aspect. Single Lions looking for love should find Cupid very cooperative. Paired Cats can expect a renewed closeness in their relationships. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Making contact with a former colleague might not be high on your list of priorities. But it could pay off personally as well as professionally. Avoid bringing up any negatives about the past. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A personal relationship could face added stress because of a situation involving someone close to both of you. Be supportive and, above all, try to avoid playing the blame game. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) You might well find some lingering uncertainties about a decision. If so, take that as a warning that you might not be ready to make that move yet. More study would be in order. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Music is a dominant theme for Sagittarians right now, and it should remind you to make a greater effort to restore some much-needed harmony in that very special relationship. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Although family matters might demand much of the Sea Goat’s attention this week, you’ll want to try to make time to handle those all-important workplace situations as well. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) A recurring unresolved issue might need to be revisited before you can move forward. Consider asking someone familiar with the situation to act as an impartial counselor. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Ignore pressure to make a decision. Keeping your options open is still the wisest course, at least until you’re sure you’ve learned all you need to know about the matter at hand. BORN THIS WEEK: You’re capable of great loyalty to those around you, which is one reason you can count on devotion from friends and family.

family came to our aid and a woman from a nearby house. We are so grateful for their assistance. We cannot thank you both enough. It’s wonderful to know there are good, kind people to help where and when you need them! On New Year’s Eve, my husband and I were at the Seneca Park Zoo and were caught in a snow squall while walking to our car. My husband took a tumble, and being seniors, this is always worrisome. He was unable to get up and had a cut on his head. A young man with his “You have voided the title,” she said with a gleam in her eye. By checking the wrong box on the backside of my son’s title, I inadvertently voided the entire document. My fault, but the consequence is a ten day wait on new documentation and $20. Thank you very much, DMV. My husband and I plant pots of annuals to beautify a little piece of highway along the lake along with his extensive gardens that he keeps expanding every year. We planted the pots around Memorial Day and just as they started flourishing around the end of June or early July all four of them disappeared! This is not the first time some pots have been missing, but all four? What a sad state of affairs! I cannot believe that you could bring these to your home, and no GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

People are spotlighting deer and shooting them right from the car. out their faces. I have also had people tell me they shot a deer with a deer slug. Then, when they skinned it, it had buckshot or bird shot in the hide. Another friend got a buck. He had to throw the meat out when he skinned it because there was a rotten spot from the neck to the front leg. It was 7pm, and I was washing dishes. I looked across the road and saw a spotlight going into my horse pasture. The light was coming from a car. He backed up to look more. When he saw me come out, he sped off. Had I not come outside and turned the porch light on, he may have shot my horse. On Wed 11/20/19 around sundown, you killed Stevie, a silly brindle mutt we loved for just over a year. not to jump up and to stop chasing the cats someday. You also shot Henry, a Husky mix who probably initiated the escape from our fenced-in back yard. After dark, Henry limped home, collapsing in the road. Our kids came screaming. We scooped him up, and the battle to save Henry’s life began. His wounds looked like a gunshot, (through and through) later confirmed by the vet. Yes, 6 children got to see what a deer slug does to a dog and will forever imagine a beloved family pet dying out there, never to be found. Henry died despite our valiant effort. FYI, it’s illegal to shoot a dog, except in self-defense. Somebody knows something. Please call the Sheriff with information on our two dogs shot and killed in [local town].

KIDS AND SLEEP School-aged children are busier than ever before, and some may be sacrificing sleep to accommodate their lifestyles. The National Sleep Foundation says school-aged children need between nine and 11 hours of sleep each night to function at a healthy level. Sleep deprivation can be linked to a host of health ailments, including issues affecting the development of the brain. Growing evidence suggests that lack of sleep can cause disturbances in metabolic rates that could affect the risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. A recent study from Johns Hopkins University found that, for each additional hour of sleep a child gets, the risk of that child becoming overweight or obese decreases by 9 percent. Children who slept the least, according to the research, had a 92 percent higher risk of being overweight or obese compared to children with longer sleep duration. The NSF adds that poor or inadequate sleep can lead to mood swings, behavioral problems and cognitive problems that impact kids’ ability to learn in school. To promote good sleep habits in children, parents and other caregivers can establish consistent sleep/ wake routines; ensure children avoid excess caffeine, particularly late in the day; create a cool, dark sleep environment; keep televisions and other media devices out of bedrooms; and help children work through stressors that may impact sleep.

DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a 91-year-old male. When I switched primary care physicians, my new doctor shook his head because my previous doctor had never told me about my low GFR readings and being borderline diabetic. In the past I had assumed that if the doctor didn’t mention any low or high blood test results, everything must be OK. I no longer assume: I ask for a copy of the results and question them. The new doctor referred me to a nephrologist. My blood pressure at the time was usually in the 130-140/60-70 range. He told me that for a person of my age, that was too low. He gave me a target of 159/89. Then on my next visit to primary care, I was told that my blood pressure was too high; I was prescribed losartan. I am testing my blood pressure daily, and the past few days it has been in the 170s. So, what is a good target for my blood pressure? Which doctor is correct? -- A.L. ANSWER: There is no absolute right answer to your question. On the one hand, overaggressive treatment of blood pressure in a 91-year-old is unnecessary and may lead to symptoms of lightheadedness, especially upon standing. Other blood pressure drugs may have additional side effects. On the other hand, a 91-year-old has a higher risk for heart disease and stroke, and in someone with a low GFR reading (a measurement of kidney function) and borderline diabetes (which further increases the risk of heart attack and stroke), most experts would aim for a blood pressure goal that is closer to 120-130/80-85, as long as it isn’t causing annoying symptoms. I’m not clear why the doctor wasn’t happy with your usual blood pressure, since a level of 130-140/60s seems very reasonable for a man your age if you aren’t having side effects. If 170 is the usual systolic pressure on your new regimen, I would ask about going back to the old one. ***

DEAR DR. ROACH: I always have had small breasts. Suddenly, in my mid-70s, my breasts grew, and now at 80 I have outgrown most of my clothes. My doctor said that it is fat, but I have gained only a few pounds. Could this be hormonal? Have you addressed this issue before? -- S.F. ANSWER: I haven’t addressed this before. Breasts change size during a woman’s life for many reasons. Breast tissue is a mixture of fat and glandular tissue. For young women, there’s proportionally more glandular tissue, the amount of which tends to decrease over time. After menopause, the breasts become less glandular; what is lost is replaced by fat, as there is less estrogen. About 20% of women will notice significantly larger breasts after menopause; however, this usually occurs along with overall weight gain. Significant breast enlargement without much weight gain is not common in my experience. Hopefully, your doctor did a thorough examination. However, I think it is very unlikely that your breast size changes represent a tumor. Very rarely, there are estrogen-producing tumors, so if there were other reasons to be concerned, your doctor might check blood levels of hormones, including estrogen. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. A Look Back… MOMENTS IN TIME The History Channel * On Jan. 12, 1932, Ophelia Wyatt Caraway of Arkansas becomes the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate. Caraway had been appointed earlier to fill the vacancy left by her late husband, Thaddeus Horatio Caraway. * On Jan. 11, 1949, on Connecticut Avenue in Washington, D.C., the cornerstone is laid at the first mosque of note in the United States. The Islamic Center was complete with a 160-foot minaret from which prayers were to be announced.

Both Men And Women Resolve To Tackle Disorganization In 2020; Women Report Feeling More Stressed By Its Effects (NAPS)—If you’re ever determined to finally streamline your office “to do’s” and make a dent in your inbox, or committed to finding a way to keep the kids’ toys out of the way of unwary feet, you’re not alone. A recent national survey of more than 1,200 individuals conducted by the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO) for its annual Get Organized & Be Productive campaign revealed that a full 31 percent of respondents are putting “getting organized” on their list of New Year’s resolutions. While the data shows both genders on board with this idea, it also showed that for women, the ramifications may be more significant.

* On Jan. 10, 2008, Tata Motors in India debuts the Nano, billing it as the world's cheapest car. The bubble-shaped mini-vehicle had a base price of $2,000. It had a body made of plastic and sheet metal -- and one windshield wiper.

GO Month evolved as recognition that many view the fresh start implied by a new year as the time to finally tackle the disorganization in their lives—at home and on the job. The survey was designed to probe how feelings of disorganization impact men and women. “People have different levels of tolerance for disorganization in their lives, and what is acceptable for one person may be intolerable for another,” NAPO Executive Director Jennifer Pastore Monroy, CAE observed. “This was particularly true for women.” What The Survey Showed While half of all respondents said that when they feel disorganized, they find it hard to concentrate on current projects, more female respondents reported feeling stressed from feeling out of control of their environment than did men. Specifically: • Thirty-six percent of women said that looking at how organized or disorganized their home is, they feel stressed or completely stressed compared to only 22 percent of men. • More than half of women respondents (53.7 percent) report disorganization leaves them unable to concentrate on the work at hand, vs only 45 percent of men. • 35.5 percent of women vs 22 percent of men wished at some time for someone to come in and organize their home. Monroy’s advice to help streamline one’s environment? “Don’t wait until you feel out of control to tackle the stressors in your life. Having a professional organizer or productivity expert to help look at things with fresh eyes can encourage new day-to-day behaviors to create the needed change, whether you are a man or a woman.” Learn More For further facts and tips, visit www.napo.net. STEPS INVOLVED WITH ESTATE PLANNING Medical directives. In addition to a will, estate planning includes your wishes if you become incapacitated or suffer from a serious medical condition that precludes you from making decisions about your care and finances. Spouses can be named to make important health decisions, but you may want to indicate other information, such as life support measures or organ donation, as well. If you have strong opinions on treatment, medical directives and living wills are a necessity.

“A man can stand a lot as long as he can stand himself.....”

~ Axel Munthe Into every life some rain must fall. We all suffer adversities of various kinds. We can meet these misfortunes with courage and fortitude or we can grovel in self-pity and try to find an easy way out, even if it means dodging our responsibilities. Mere adversity never killed anyone. We live through it and usually, when the problem is finally resolved, it turns out to have been less awful than we imagined. We can stand a great deal if we are proud of the way we do it. Families of all faiths are assured of perfectly appropriate services when they place their trust in us. No one is ever turned away for lack of funds. When the need arises, call us first.

LeRoy F. Perkins “Roy” January 4, 2020 Livonia: January 4, 2020 at age 84. Roy was born on February 25, 1935 to the late Alfred and Ida Perkins. Predeceased by his daughter Lori Welch and brother Carl Perkins. Survived by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Perkins, daughter Lisa West, and grandson Evan West all of Livonia. Also survived by several other loving family and friends, including his breakfast friends at Leisure’s. Roy was born in Oneonta, NY, where he graduated from Otego High School and lived most of his life, and entered the United States Air Force in 1953. He proudly served for over 20 years and retired from McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey as a Master Sergeant. His military specialty was a Loadmaster working mostly with C130, C133, and C141 aircraft. When his squadron was assigned at Kindley Field, Bermuda, he worked with NASA, 1965-1968, literally snatching astronauts out of the ocean with their aircraft.

Marcia’s love for her family was only pale in comparison for her love for the Lord. Her strength that she drew from her faith was immeasurable and that faith gave her a heart for reaching out to so many people. She reached out to and ministered to family, friends and the complete strangers she crossed paths with. She had a passion for gardening that turned her into a composting machine. It was extremely hard to throw anything away in the garbage that could be used as compost and it became a game. She was also known as a fitness fanatic; it wasn’t at all uncommon to hear her running on her treadmill in the basement while listening to worship music. Up until this last summer it wasn’t out of the ordinary to see her chasing her GREAT grandchildren in the back yard. Marcia had no profession of perfection but she constantly would strive to be a better person than she was the day before. It is hard to think of Marcia and not come away with a feeling of love, her smile lit up the room. She was a strong, determined and gifted woman who has passed those traits down through her children and to her grands. She is much loved and much missed. Family and friends called on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 4-7pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 20A, Livonia, NY where Marcia’s funeral service was held at 10am on Friday, January 3, 2020. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marcia’s memory to Livingston County Hospice, 2 Murray Hill Drive, Mt. Morris, NY 14510. In 2003 Roy and Betty moved to Livonia, NY to be closer to their daughters and their grandson, Evan. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. CREATE AN ENDURING MEMORIAL FOR A LOVED ONE Create a scholarship fund. What better way to honor a loved one’s memory than to create an avenue to help others in his or her name? “2019” A Quick Year in Review With 2019 in the books, The Red Osier Landmark Restaurant once again had a memorable year. Executive Chef William Burch and his culinary team have another successful year under their belt! Our year started off with serving quality food during the harsh winter months. Fortunately for Chef, a little vacation and celebration in Las Vegas for his birthday was just what the frigid Western New York weather called for. You see, Executive Chef Will gets to take a well, and I stress, well, deserved vacation in January, on us, as our thanks to him for his countless hours and dedication to The Red Osier Landmark Restaurant, year-round. (Although it is hard and difficult work, I do tag along on these journeys.) We experienced the culinary -Steven Foster, Co Owner expertise of Chef Gordon Ramsay and other well-known Las Vegas eateries while enjoying the spectacular city. We are excited about this year’s upcoming trip, traveling to Waikiki to experience the culture and dining that Hawaii has to offer. Early in the year, we decided we were going to build our second food trailer. Sous Chef Michael Mattern’s passion for smoked food also came to a reality with his idea of “The Rib Cage.” After a couple trips to Nashville, we arrived in Stafford hauling a custom made 330-gallon smoker and shortly after, the arrival of our second custom-built food trailer. Our culinary team worked together for months to create a new menu for our 2019 events season. We had a vision of getting away from the “traditional” roast beef sandwich and create sandwiches that speak to who we are as an experienced culinary team and as The Red Osier Landmark Restaurant. We came up with many new sandwiches including our feature, “The Landmark”, a smoked prime rib sandwich topped with homemade BBQ, Homemade Slaw, on a Fresh Grilled Brioche Bun with Kosher Salt and Carraway Seeds, finished with a Bread and Butter Pickle. We ate so many of these sandwiches over the winter months… making sure we knew exactly the right smoking time for the meat, the perfect BBQ recipe… ensuring we had the perfect sandwich. A lot of preparation went into the new menu and it was a huge success. The Landmark Sandwich suddenly became our number one seller at events across Western New York. We traveled throughout Western New York, Central New York, and even out of New York. We featured our food in Washington D.C. and well as making an impromptu stop in Hershey, P.A. with our food trailer. We proudly served our food at The Great New York State Fair, Darien Lake, as well as The Genesee County Fair, winning “The Best Food Award.” Tim and I were honored to be asked to be their Grand Marshalls. I can not say enough about this staff, Chef Will, Sous Chef Michael Mattern, Chef Clifton Williams, and the rest of our dedicated staff, they ran a restaurant while also running two mobile operations, ultimately two more restaurants, just on wheels. Our in-house operations served well over 16,400 portions of prime rib to guests, exemplifying our title of the “Prime Rib Capital of Western New York.” With outside operations attending well over 250 events, the season came to an end in late October. I don’t think we were ever so glad to see our food trucks and smoker put into storage for the season. I think some, mentioned above, might have been making some hand gestures through the window when Tim was pulling out of the parking lot with them. Straight into holiday season we go. In November we had our employee holiday party as our thanks for a job well done year-round. I have said this time and time again, I feel as if we have the best staff in Western New York! We honored some of our standout employees. Chef Will received our 2019 MVP Award, Chef Michael Mattern received our 2019 Teamwork Award, Becky Harding received our Owners Choice Award. Chef Clifton Williams, Erica Scott,

A lot of preparation went into the new menu and it was a huge success.

Executive Chef William Burch with a smoker full of delicious eats! and Kennard Chandler received employee of the year awards. Sandra Coppini and Theresa Whaley were presented with our 4 G’s award which exemplifies customer service. It was soon time to start planning and creating our “Winter Wonderland of Lights.” Tim’s passion for Christmas lights allowed the community and guests alike to enjoy a light display featuring well over 2.5 million lights. The restaurant was festively decorated inside and out, featuring my favorite: the Buffalo Bills Christmas theme at the bar. We held our 3rd annual “Community Days” December 2nd and 9th. We invited the community to celebrate the season with free horse and carriage rides throughout the lights, a free petting zoo, firetrucks from Stafford Volunteer Fire Department with their volunteering for traffic control and visits by Santa and Mrs. Claus. This has been a great year for us here at The Red Osier Landmark Restaurant. We look forward to 2020 with our continued activism and community work while striving to continually bring the best dining experience a restaurant can offer to its guests. We would like to thank all our customers for their continued valued patronage as well as our dedicated staff, friends, and family- for we wish you and your families all a healthy and prosperous 2020! Steven Foster- Co-Owner The Red Osier Landmark Restaurant From Executive Chef, William Burch: 2019 was a year to remember after taking on a second food trailer and a 330 gallon smoker for Chef Mike. I have since made a suggestion box for him and it sort of looks like a paper shredder. My little attempt at humor there. This year was big for my restaurant with hundreds of catering events along with private, and holiday parties. It was fantastic overall. We had the pleasure of hosting different barbeque parties where we spent some overnights at the restaurant preparing our delicious brisket that took hours upon hours to prepare. Between fairs and different weekly events, we were able to show our culinary talents, proving The Red Osier Landmark Restaurant is more than just a beef and seafood house. I could not be prouder of my team for overcoming all the challenges and extras we placed upon them this year. They always got the job done. Thank you to all our customers who allow us to continually grow and the generous support of our local community. Happy New Year to all. ama Cindy Strasburg of Hemlock has become well-known serving our troops, sending hundreds of packages and letters to our soldiers abroad each year. What is perhaps not as recognized is all the ways in which Strasburg serves others locally. From Veterans to newborns, she continues to give generously to them and care for them all. “There are just so many avenues,” said Strasburg. “I am always looking for ways to enrich more people.” Strasburg recently donated 100 breakfast meals to Catholic Charities and gave Christmas packages containing breakfast meals, candy, hot pads and ready-to-bake cookies to Noyes for their 100 Lifeline seniors. Strasburg never does anything halfway, either. When she was picking up her granddaughter from school, she overheard a little boy getting on his bus talking to himself, saying, “Okay, okay, okay. I’m starving. I’m starving. I’m starving, but you’re okay. You’ll be okay.” She knew she had to do something. “Children can get free breakfast and lunch at school, but when they go home, they may not have anything to eat there,” explained Strasburg. “So, I adopted four classes, 69 children, and gave each child four presents: a book, gloves, a hat and a stuffed animal. Each child also received a breakfast package with: oatmeal, hot chocolate, candy canes, cookies and candy.” Strasburg also provided a gift for 80 teachers and aids. Each received a crocheted hot pad and a breakfast package like the children that also included tea and coffee to go. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Strasburg has a soft spot in her heart for babies. “I brought a donation to Golisano Children’s Center NICU,” she said. “I crochet blankets and put preemie outfits in them every year.” Strasburg was motivated by her granddaughter who was also a preemie.

Christmas delivered to Chances & Changes for In House and a Family Mama Cindy adopted for Christmas. Christmas coffee mugs and goodie bags were delivered to: ESL, Five Star Bank, Livonia Dollar General and Hemlock Post Office Employees along with friendship bread trays decorated with candy canes. “I also help with the First Steps program at Noyes,” she continued. She provides bundles for babies, makes blankets and burp clothes, crochets blankets and includes a little Christmas stocking for the baby’s first Christmas. “I think every baby should get a new crocheted item,” said Strasburg. “I wrap my items and other donated items in clear wrap and label them, ‘boy,’ or ‘girl,’ so that the hospital is able to hand them to mothers of newborns as a gift. I have been doing this for quite a few years now.” This is the second year Strasburg connected with Chances & Changes, providing gifts for boys and girls as well as breakfast packages, coffee, creamers, candy canes and packaged cookies for the Moms. This year, she adopted a family in need and provided Christmas for them. Mama Cindy says: “There is no cut-off-date when there is a family in need during the holidays!” Even while helping others locally, Strasburg never forgets her Veterans. “I donated 35 Christmas stockings for our in-home Veterans with Meals on Wheels in Mount Morris through the Office of the Aging,” she shared. One Veteran without family called Strasburg to let her know he hadn’t received a present in years. Last year, a 93-year-old Veteran shared with her that hers was only the second stocking he’d received in his life.

A Mama Cindy donation to Noyes Hospital’s First Steps Program along with friendship bread and brownies for the employees! Strasburg also adopts all 200 residents of the Canandaigua VA each year. “Each Veteran receives a new pair of socks and a bag of hard candy wrapped in Christmas paper, which are handed out on Christmas morning,” she explained. “I have also been making them neck pillows from flag-patterned, fleece fabric. They love them!” Strasburg also makes Bags of Hope for homeless Veterans through the Canandaigua VA program. “I make the waterproof bags with a shoulder handle, and they contain a fleece blanket, some socks, personal care items, a coffee mug with coffee, food and snacks,” she stated. “Then I sew an embroidered star from a retired flag on it along with this saying: This flag can no longer fly over an American home. The sun and wind have torn and tattered it, but may you carry this star so you know you’re never forgotten.” She has made 52 bags so far. Those seeking help in sending care packages to our troops find that Strasburg is more than willing to help. “A Ladies Auxiliary came to me recently about packages they were going to ship, asking for advice,” she said. “I showed them how things had to be put together and took pictures, so that they could do it on their own. Everything the Ladies Auxiliary donated supplied Christmas for the Marine Unit I just received in Norway: 27 Marines.” In the midst of all this, Cindy Strasburg continues to look for more programs to support. “I don’t want to waste any of the talents the Lord has given me,” she explained. “I am grateful to those who give so generously to make what I do possible. For example, Geneseo Kiwanis has donated $1,000 every year for the past twelve years. This will always be my heart and soul mission to help our homeless veterans, and taking care of our military, for they are going to take care of us. God bless our military!

WORK PANTS: THE NEXT GENERATION (NAPSI)—Just as technology has had a major effect on the kind of work people do, it has also changed the clothes in which they do that work. For example, with hard work in mind, a new collection of pants has been created by Carhartt with a unique blend of durability and functionality. “Our company has been around for nearly 130 years, and throughout our history, we’ve continued to improve our product offerings to fit the needs of our hardworking consumers,” says Deb Ferraro, vice president of product development at Carhartt. “This new collection of pants reinforces our commitment to setting a new standard for workwear.” Carhartt’s Steel Multi-Pocket pant, Steel Double-Front pant, and Steel Cargo pant feature the brand’s Full Swing® technology and a fabric blend of cotton, nylon and spandex. First introduced in 2015, Full Swing® uses stretch panels to provide ease of movement in the joints, improving hardworking consumers’ range of motion where they need it most—both on and off the job. Additionally, each of the new pant styles is equipped with knee pad openings designed to fit the company’s most recent innovation in knee protection. The Carhartt knee pad features a strapless, honeycomb design that maximizes durability and comfort, providing an easy-to-wear solution for impact protection. The launch of these new work pants coincides with a celebration of Carhartt’s oldest work pants. The classic Firm Duck Double-Front Work Dungaree was first introduced to the company’s product line in 1939, and it is now the focal point of the brand’s latest campaign celebrating its sewing, cutting and distribution associates. The video highlights the product details while unveiling the craftsmanship behind every pair of the B01 Firm Duck Double-Front Work Dungarees. To learn more about Carhartt’s latest pants and knee pads, visit www.Carhartt.com. To watch the brand’s latest video, “61 Workers, One Mission,” visit the Carhartt channel on YouTube. EMPLOYMENT
