TAKING THE PAIN OUT OF LIVE EVENT MANAGEMENT (NAPSI)—Anyone involved in running a theater, festival, or a sporting or live music event knows all too well the difficulty of doing it on your own. Some event managers turn to third parties like Eventbrite or Ticketmaster to get help with critical ticket sales, but one of the biggest pain points is finding an effective ticketing solution that supports their brand. When ticketing, marketing, fundraising and donation activities are not synchronized, event managers spend more time managing their business rather than the event itself. This leads to lost profits and angry patrons. Rick Blair, co-founder of Artisan Center Theater in Hurst, TX, went through years of trying different ticket brokers to increase sales, but was put off by the high fees and lack of personal attention. He also found that the solutions he tried did not work well with his other tools. “I had separate platforms for ticketing, marketing, website updates and donor management. None of them talked to each other and the entire process was a mess,” he said.

Celebrating

42 Years

Two years ago, he discovered the Vendini ticketing platform. Now the theater has an all-in-one system to handle VIP alerts and online, mobile and box office ticket sales that integrates with e-mail, social and direct marketing. By using Vendini’s Patron Connect, Blair and his team are notified when a donor is coming to the show and where they will be sitting. “When I get the alert, I can rush to my office, write a thank-you card, and slip it onto the donor’s seat before they arrive. That has resulted in many new donations because everyone appreciates a personal touch. Patron Connect is one of my most powerful marketing tools.” Vendini makes event execution simpler and faster. Event managers can create an event, specify dates and times, set pricing, and start selling tickets in minutes. Vendini’s live event management software helps managers like Blair run events more easily and effectively.

Many beloved dishes might be enjoyed more often if they were only a little healthier. Author and former personal chef Michelle Dudash was once asked by a client if the she could make a healthier version of chicken parmesan. The result of that request is the following recipe for “Skinny Chicken Parmesan with Spinach,” which Dudash ultimately included in her book, “Clean Eating For Busy Families” (Fair Winds). The recipe was a hit with Dudash’s client and will surely be a hit at home cooks’ dinner tables as well.

Skinny Chicken Parmesan with Spinach Makes 6 servings For the sauce: 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil 2 cloves garlic, sliced 1 28-ounce can whole tomatoes 1/4 teaspoon dried basil 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano 2 pinches salt 2 pinches freshly ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon honey

For the chicken: 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese 2 tablespoons whole-wheat flour 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1/4 teaspoon dried basil 11/2 pounds chicken breast, cut into 6 pieces, pounded to 1/4 inch 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided 4 cups baby spinach 1 teaspoon lemon juice 3/4 cup fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced into 6 medallions (or shredded) 6 cups cooked whole-grain thin spaghetti tossed in 2 teaspoons olive oil Preheat oven to 375 F and coat the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch pan with olive oil spray. To make the sauce: Heat a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add oil and garlic and cook gently for 30 seconds. Do not brown. With your hand, squeeze each tomato into the pan and add basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and honey. Reduce to medium heat and simmer for 20 minutes, lowering the heat as needed. To make the chicken: Combine parmesan cheese, flour, salt, pepper, and basil in a medium dish and coach chicken with cheese mixture. Place a large skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of oil. When oil is shimmering, add chicken, rounded-side down, and cook until golden on one side, about 5 minutes. Arrange chicken in a baking pan. Pour remaining 2 teaspoons of oil into skillet and add spinach. Cook spinach for 1 to 2 minutes until wilted and swirl in lemon juice. Gently press spinach to release water and divide spinach on top of chicken. Spoon sauce around and over the chicken, place mozzarella on top, and sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt. Bake for 15 minutes until chicken is cooked through. Serve over spaghetti.

CONSERVE FUEL DURING YOUR DAILY COMMUTE Drive a vehicle with stop/ start technology. Stop/start systems, in which engines shut off automatically when drivers brake and restart automatically when the driver lifts his or her foot off the brake pedal, can make more efficient use of fuel. Once exclusive to hybrid cars, stop/start technology is now more widely available and can cut back on fuel consumption and vehicle emissions. That’s especially attractive to ecoconscious commuters who live in big cities where stop-andstart traffic is unavoidable. What’s more, many modern air conditioning compressors operate off electricity and not via a car’s engine, meaning vehicles with stop/start technology will stay cool in the summer even when the engine shuts off. DEAR PAW’S CORNER: I witnessed an incident on my morning run that illustrated the reason why dogs need to be on a leash at all times in residential areas. A runner ahead of me on the side of the road approached a dog owner and his Collie ambling along the sidewalk. The owner had unfastened the dog’s leash so that it could explore ahead. The dog seemed calm, but as the runner drew near to them, it suddenly bristled, snarled and then leaped at the runner. Before the owner could grab the dog’s collar, the runner was bitten on her cheek and hand. The injuries were serious enough to require stitches. There is no excuse for an owner to allow their dog off the leash except where it’s expressly permitted, such as dog parks. Even when an owner has trained their dog to respond to verbal commands, the command might not be given fast enough to stop the dog. Runners are attractive targets to many dogs. As we run past, a dog may take our movements as a signal to chase. I have two dogs myself. They’re both too old to run with me now, but in their younger days, I frequently took them with me -- both on a leash. They’ve always responded quickly to verbal commands, but I do not rely on those alone to keep them from darting into traffic or annoying other runners. Please tell your readers to keep the leashes on their dogs. It keeps others safe, it keeps the dogs safe, and it protects owners from legal issues. It’s also the law. -- Rick in Dracut, Massachusetts

Hi. Our names are Dodger and Sprout. Mommy calls me Sprouty. We will turn 6 years old in July. Our sister Dewey lives in Cheektowaga, NY with Mommy’s human daughter. We see her all the time. We moved to S. Bristol in April 2020. This town is beautiful, and everyone has been so nice to us. We love taking walks in Ontario Co Park. Our favorite dinner is plain baked chicken with carrots and peas. Once in a while we get a little piece of pepperoni. If we’re really good. Send us a photo and brief write-up of your pet and we’ll feature it. Email to: sales@gvpennysaver.com or mail to: P.O. Box 340; Avon, 14414. Pets will be published at discretion of GVPS.

STRANGE BUT TRUE By Lucie Winborne * Alcatraz was the only prison to offer its inmates hot showers, but that had nothing to do with personal comfort. Rather, the reasoning went that if the prisoners were used to the hot shower-water, they’d be unable to cope with the frigid temps of the San Francisco Bay and hence deterred from attempting to escape.

TACKLING THE ULTIMATE WORKFORCE CHALLENGE (NAPSI)—Today, many people in business talk of diversity fatigue, says Barbara Adams, PsyD, author of “Women, Minorities, & Other Extraordinary People: The New Path for Workforce Diversity” (Greenleaf Book Group Press). But, she adds, that means “we’ve momentarily lost sight of the magnitude of opportunity before us.” Her book can serve people in leadership positions who recognize, “the tremendous strategic value of having diverse, inclusive workforces,” but have struggled to commit to it. For all the many well-meaning diversity initiatives that organizations have undertaken lately, “personal mindsets and beliefs are what count,” she writes. “People in leadership positions,” Dr. Adams adds, “have the ability to replace judgment and bias that naturally occur in us with curiosity about differences.” And that, she concludes, is “truly the beginning of embracing the opportunity that lies in workforce diversity and inclusion” and can make companies and organizations more successful.

SENIOR NEWS LINE By Matilda Charles Senior Center Closed? Meet Up in Parking Lot Is your senior center still closed? Most of them are, which means that we haven’t experienced our typical routines for a very long time. Mostly it’s the social aspect we miss. A show of hands: How many of us, if given the opportunity, would show up at the senior center for an in-person gathering even if it was held outside? In the parking lot? It’s being done in some parts of the country, even in cold weather, so it’s possible if those who run your senior center are willing to do the work of spacing chairs 6 feet apart and making coffee in thermoses so it stays hot and pushing around a trolley of cookies. With spring officially here, chances are that if you and others approach the staff of the senior center to express interest, social gatherings like these could be made to happen. An hour once a week would go a long way toward reconnecting with friends and checking in with others to see -- in person -- how they’re really doing. Besides the loss of social interaction, it’s the classes many of us miss: budgeting for living on Social Security, cooking for one, journaling ... and especially the hands-on classes about electronic devices. Those device classes are the very classes we need now that could help us to interact with others on video calls. To their credit, some senior centers have figured out that, if nothing else, they can show video exercise classes we can follow from home. And many of them have stepped forward with volunteers who can help get us signed up online to get the COVID vaccine. From what I hear, though, it’s the in-person social interactions that we seniors miss the most. Even a once-a-week gathering, in a parking lot, would be very welcome. EARLY TREATMENT KEY TO MANAGING SEASONAL DISEASES IN CATTLE (NAPSI) — Two of the more common production-impacting health issues cattlemen see in their herds this time of year are foot rot and pinkeye. Left untreated, each can lead to more serious, chronic health problems. Foot rot, pinkeye and other common cattle ailments are highly dependent on pasture, weather and other conditions. Foot rot is more problematic when cattle are kept in wet, muddy and manure-heavy lots. Caused by the Fusobacterium Necrophorum bacteria, symptoms include swelling and inflammation between the toes, resulting in lameness and reluctance to walk.

Three Ways to Avoid COVID-19 Vaccine Scams Start with your state or local health department to find out how, when, and where to get a COVID-19 vaccine in your community. And to avoid a scam, know that: • You can’t pay to put your name on a list to get the vaccine. That’s a scam. • You can’t pay to get early access to the vaccine. That’s a scam.

Pinkeye is a highly infectious eye condition that can affect cattle of all ages, often on tall-grass pastures and in environmental situations that can irritate the eye. Flies are a major irritant and vector for the disease, so controlling them and other sources of irritant is critical. Delayed treatment of pinkeye can result in loss of the eye, reduced performance and a less marketable animal. Fortunately, with timely surveillance and treatment, these infections, along with other diseases, can be easily and cost-effectively managed by producers with a non-prescription injectable product such as Noromycin 300 LA, a highly concentrated, lowdose, fast-acting formulation of oxytetracycline. Effectively used by cattlemen for many years, it is widely available through most farm and veterinary supply companies. Learn more at www.norbrook.com.

Amazing! Hats off to The Yard of Ale and J&T pizza for opening and feeding the Lady Knights after their sectional win. It is so great living in a small town. Bless your thoughtful heart! Ban dogs from parks Is banning dogs from parks what it is going to take to stop dog owners from leaving plastic bags of dog poop around the park? Dog owners, it is your job to remove your dog’s poop, not leave it in the park for other people. Banning dogs from parks may be the only solution to this problem! Now that spring is here and more people are walking their dogs, the plastic poop bags line the park walkways. It’s disgusting. Hunter entitlement Thanks to the neighboring hunter who entered my and my two neighbors’ properties last December to apparently trail an injured deer and placed 30+ pink plastic flags on the brush and trees throughout the properties and left them hanging there. You not only didn’t ask for permission, but worse you also felt entitled to leave them there for us to remove the flagging and pick up af-

ter you. No wonder hunters have trouble getting permission when finding private land to hunt on when those like you do not respect private property landowners. Disgusting language I know and understand the First Amendment: Freedom of Speech. I also understand that we have a choice of what kind of language to use. I live in a very small community. One resident in this community has chosen to use the most vulgar, obscene word in our language on a very large sign in his front yard to insult our President. Any child old enough to read can see this and decide it is all right to use that word. I wonder if he uses this word with his children and grandchildren? Can his parents be proud of that sign? I don’t know what he hopes to accomplish by doing this, but what he has accomplished is to show that he has no dignity or class. How sad!

SOY FOODS PACK A POWERFUL PUNCH The Cleveland Clinic notes that soy foods provide a host of nutritional benefits. Plant protein, including soy, can provide cardiovascular benefits, including helping with people with high blood pressure lower their blood pressure to healthier levels. While many people rely on animal-based proteins to get their daily recommended intake of protein, soy foods are naturally free of cholesterol and low in saturated fats. That makes soy foods more heart-healthy sources of protein than animal products. The Cleveland Clinic says substituting soy foods for animal-based proteins a few times per week can reduce a person’s risk for cardiovascular disease. Soy foods also can be a great source of dietary fiber, though the U.S. Soybean Export Council advises consumers that not all soy products are the same. The USSEC notes that foods like soy milk and tofu contain very little fiber. People who want to utilize soy beans as a source of dietary fiber should look to foods that utilize the whole bean, such tempeh, soy flour and textured soy protein. The USSEC also notes there’s some confusion in regard to the connection between soy foods and iron, though the group admits research is ongoing. While a 1/2 cup serving of cooked soybeans contains four milligrams of iron, the phytate and soy protein present in soy foods reduce iron absorption, meaning that the body won’t really benefit from the iron. However, the USSEC recommends consumers purchase fermented soy foods, including tempeh and miso, because the body might absorb more iron from these foods than it will when consuming other types soy foods. DEAR DR. ROACH: I’m a 91-year-old male who makes frequent visits to the bathroom to urinate. I am in good health and I wonder what causes this. Where does all that liquid come from? -- A.R.N. ANSWER: What goes in must come out. All the liquid you urinate came from fluid you consumed when drinking and eating food. But it may be more about perception than volume. Frequent urination is extremely common in both men and women, and although some causes are the same, such as an overactive bladder, men have an additional anatomical structure that can lead to urinary problems as they get older: the prostate, a normally walnut-sized gland that may increase in size as men age. It is through the prostate that the urethra, and thus all the urine, has to flow. If the prostate is enlarged, the urinary flow slows down. As the prostate obstruction becomes worse, men may have trouble emptying the bladder completely. This has the effect of making men go to the bathroom more frequently, since the bladder has less functional size. In this case, you aren’t urinating any more volume than before, just more often in smaller amounts. Treatment needs to be directed at the underlying cause. Overactive bladder and enlarged prostate have similar symptoms and different treatments. It is possible that you really are having excess volume, however. Diabetes is the biggest concern here, and you should be tested if you have truly large volumes of urine.

Tree Tamers ASAP robots: Dansville Central School fifth graders accepted the challenge to program the Lego EV3 robots they built to race around a pylon and back again, the winner being the robot with the fastest time.

S

tudents in grades PreK-7 participating in the ASAP program at Dansville Central School have been building and coding robots. This introduction to coding is being offered by the GV BOCES Enrichment Department. All students use robots and coding platforms that are age specific. The youngest students, in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade, learned the basics by programming Cubetto robots. Grades 2-4 built and programmed Lego WeDo robots, and grades 5-7 used Lego EV3 robots. The Lego robots use a block coding system that students use to have their robot perform specific tasks. As a finale, a Robot Olympics is planned for students to compete in challenges that will test their coding ability. Students learned that coding is a language and way of thinking. Successful coding involves the use of iterative design and computational thinking. Because coding is an important skill in the modern workplace, developing these skills and ways of thinking can open doors for students in the future. The GV BOCES Enrichment Department has brought a variety of STEM, arts, and literacy activities for the Dansville Central Schools’ Academic Support and Activities Program (ASAP). The engaging and creative units are offered weekly by GV BOCES Enrichment Specialists. Dansville’s ASAP provides assistance to children in grades PK through 7 and offers activities to promote creativity and exercise, in a safe and healthy environment, on days that they are not attending school.

MAKE EASTER EGGS LAST Families gather on Easter to participate in many different traditions that have been passed down through time. One such tradition is coloring Easter eggs. Millions of eggs are harvested and sold this time of year to be included in Easter festivities. However, soon after egg hunts have been completed and family dinners are brought to the table, those colored eggs may be relegated to the trash. When colored with foodgrade dyes, such as those manufactured and readily available around Easter, the eggs remain safe to eat. Colored eggs that are stored in a refrigerator can last up to a week if their shells remain intact. Peeled eggs may last up to five days, says the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service. Once eggs are boiled and dyed, they should be promptly put into the refrigerator to keep them fresh and edible. It’s adviseable to use plastic, wood or papier-mâché eggs for Easter egg hunts, as eggs made of such materials will not spoil. Otherwise, hide and refrigerate hardboiled eggs if this task can be completed within two hours. After that time frame, the eggs have the potential to spoil. By eating colored eggs, you can reduce waste and add a tasty appetizer to Easter meals.

The Genesee Valley BOCES Enrichment Department is a service offered by Genesee Valley BOCES that provides over 20 programs including Enrichment, as well as Gifted and Talented programs, Arts-In-Education presentations, several competitions, and a Summer Institute program. GV BOCES operates as a Board of Cooperative Educational Services offering shared programs and services to 22 component school districts located in Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston and Steuben counties in New York state.

HOME SERVICES

CHIMNEY MAINTENANCE A PART OF HOME SAFETY Even though chimneys do not require daily upkeep, regular maintenance efforts help chimneys operate safely and prevent deaths and injuries while protecting homes from fire. Various problems can arise when chimneys are not well maintained. Such problems include chimney fires, carbon monoxide poisoning and early failure of the chimney and heating sources that the chimney vents. Carbon monoxide can be scary, as it is virtually invisible without a proper detector. The National Vital Statistics System says that, in 2015, 393 deaths resulted from unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning in the United States. When carbon monoxide is breathed in, it builds up quickly and combines with the blood, reducing the blood’s ability to carry oxygen. The Canada Safety Council says that body tissue and cells can’t function without oxygen. Chimney fires are another potential byproduct of poor chimney maintenance. The Chimney Safety Institute of America notes that chimneys expel the byproducts of combustion, including smoke, water vapor, gases, unburned wood particles, hydrocarbon, tar fog, and assorted minerals, which can condense on the inside of the chimney flue. The residue, called creosote, is highly combustible. With the right conditions, a chimney fire can occur.

SHADE-TOLERANT PLANTS COMPLETE LANDSCAPES Plants need sunlight to thrive and grow, but some need less sunlight than others. People who find their landscapes are less supportive to sun-loving plants can choose from a variety of shade-tolerant plants, shrubs and trees. Shade tolerance refers to a plant’s ability to withstand low levels of light. Certain plants have adapted this feature to survive in the wild. Plants that grow at the base of forest floors, for example, will get less sunlight than others outside of the tree canopy. Such adaptations enable a wide variety of foliage to grow even though they are not exposed to much sunlight. While sun-loving plants often have broad leaves and expend significant energy to capture sunlight for photosynthesis, shade-tolerant plants expend less energy and tend to be more efficient consumers of soil nutrients and sunlight. Penn State Extension’s Plant and Pests division says the amount of shade a plant is growing under will directly affect the density of the foliage and the plant’s flowering and fruiting characteristics. Blending shade-tolerant plants into the landscape can be an effective use of space. Before choosing plants for an existing landscape, it’s important to assess the level of shade or sun the plants will receive. Once homeowners understand which type of shade they are dealing with, they can then visit plant nurseries and select their plants. Most greenery comes with care instructions that include recommendations regarding the amount of shade/sunlight the plant will need to do well. If further assistance is needed, a knowledgeable employee can make suggestions based on landscape needs. Shade-tolerant plants can make welcome additions to the landscape, offering greenery and color in the darker areas of a property. Page 23

donfoxhvac@yahoo.com DESIGN A GARDEN FOR ALL SENSES Aesthetic appeal is one of the most sought-after benefits of gardening. However, many homeowners put in so much effort planting for one particular season that they may not give thought to ensuring the garden looks vibrant no matter the time of year. Gardeners can research planting zones to find plants that will blossom at different times of the year so they can enjoy impressive, aesthetically appealing gardens year-round. Spring bulbs can bloom early on, while annual and perennial summer favorites will thrive under the summer sun. Beautyberry and caryopteris will fill out in the autumn, while holly or mahonia can look lovely in the winter.

What is mulch? Mulch refers to a material spread around or over a plant to enrich and/or insulate its soil. Many homeowners prefer mulch made of wood chips, which is both effective and readily available. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notes that organic mulches, which include leaves, wood chips, compost or grass clippings, can be used by homeowners who want to develop eco-friendly landscapes.

POTENTIAL CULPRITS BEHIND THINNING GRASS Leaf spot The Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment at the University of Massachusetts Amherst notes that leaf spot diseases affect both cool- and warm-season turfgrasses. Various fungi can cause leaf spot. Symptoms and the timing of the appearance of leaf spot will vary depending on which fungi is causing the problem. For example, bipolaris sorokiniana, which affects grasses in warm, wet summer months, produces small spots that are dark purple to black. Dreschslera poae is another fungi that causes leaf spot, and it also produces dark purple to black spots. However, it tends to appear in the spring when the weather is cool and moist. Understanding the different fungi and when they typically strike can help homeowners identify what is causing their grass to thin. In such situations, professional landscapers can be invaluable resources as well.

DESIGN A GARDEN FOR ALL SENSES The lively sounds of the garden are created by the wildlife that come to pollinate and enjoy the environment gardeners have created. By choosing indigenous plants, gardeners can be sure that insects and small critters will seek refuge within the foliage. Songbirds also will add character to a yard. The Audubon Society suggests including a water source and a songbird border of shrubs along your property’s edge. Provide food sources and make sure they are located a fair distance from the main action of the yard so as not to scare off birds. Wait for musical chickadees, goldfinches, orioles, and cardinals to arrive and enjoy the accommodations.

MILLWORK CAN ADD APPEAL & A CLASSIC FEEL Homeowners are discovering that architectural accents can go a long way toward improving both the look and value of their homes. When renovating a space, the term “millwork” may be mentioned by designers and contractors. While it might be a mystery to some, millwork can give rooms unique looks. Millwork refers to items traditionally made from raw lumber in a sawmill. Examples of millwork include crown molding, base trims, door frames, window casings, chair rails, and paneling. Cabinets may also classify as millwork.

ROOFING & SIDING STAY SAFE WHEN LANDSCAPING Homeowners should not assume they know how to use all of the tools necessary to maintain lush lawns and bountiful gardens. Familiarize yourself with the proper operation of manual and motorized equipment by reading the owner’s manual thoroughly, making special note of recommended safety guidelines. Take some time to locate the power buttons and other parts by comparing them to illustrations in the guide. Once you feel comfortable handling the equipment, then you can begin to use it.

CONTROL CRABGRASS BEFORE IT APPEARS Apply a pre-emergent herbicide. Pre-emergent herbicides kill crabgrass seedlings as they germinate. While these herbicides are highly effective, they must be applied at precisely the right time. The right time to apply them depends on weather patterns. For example, Lowes notes that homeowners who live in regions that might have experienced warmer than usual winters will probably need to apply the herbicides earlier than usual. While the manufacturer instructions should always be followed when applying herbicides, it’s essential that homeowners take weather patterns into consideration as well.

HOMETOWN

Excerpt from

Elpis Israel by John Thomas DOCTRINES Christadelphians Believe and Teach • That the Bible is the only source now extant of knowledge concerning God and His purposes, and it was given wholly by the unerring inspiration of God in the writers, and that such errors as have since crept in are due to transcription or translation. • That there is but ONE God, the Father, dwelling in heaven, who, out of His own underived energy created heaven and earth, and all that in them is. • That Jesus Christ is the Son of God (not “God the Son” a phrase not found in Scripture), begotten of the virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. • That God is omnipresent by means of His Spirit flowing out from His personal presence. This Spirit power is universal in upholding all things in the natural world. For the performance of work that is supernatural and sacred the same spirit by special concentration of the Divine Will becomes Holy Spirit for the holy or sacred work determined to be done. • That man is mortal, a creature of the dust. Immortality is not a present possession, but will be bestowed upon the worthy at the resurrection. • That man in death is unconscious, and depends upon a resurrection for a future life. • That death came into the world through the disobedience of one man: “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, in whom all have sinned” (Romans 5:12, margin). • That as death came into the world through sin, it can only be abolished through the righteousness of one who was raised up of the condemned race of Adam, in the line of Abraham and David, who though wearing the condemned nature was to obtain a title to resurrection by perfect obedience, and by dying abrogate the law of condemnation for HIMSELF, and all who should believe and obey him. • That at the appearing of Christ prior to the establishment of the Kingdom, the responsible (faithful and unfaithful), dead and living of both classes, will be summoned before his judgement seat “to be judged according to their words,” “and receive in body according to what they have done, whether it be good or bad.” • That the gospel concerns the “Kingdom of God” (for the establishment of which Christ taught his disciples to pray, and of which the prophet Daniel says, “the God of heaven shall set up”), and the “Things Concerning the Name of Jesus Christ,” a knowledge and adherence to which are necessary for salvation. • That the Kingdom when established will cover the entire earth, including the kingdom of Israel restored, in the territory it formerly occupied, viz., the land bequeathed to Abraham and his seed (the Christ), by covenant. • That baptism into the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, after knowledge of God’s plan, and a faithful walk therein, is essential to salvation. In addition to the twelve doctrines listed above it should be recognized that Christadelphians believe that the Commandments of Christ (see Christadelphian Statement of Faith) must determine our behavior and attitudes in all aspects of our lives, and we stress that it is increasingly needful to be governed by them in these perilous last days of gross immorality. We therefore recommend that all brethren of Christ give attention to these commandments and consistently use them as our standard of conduct.

NOW HERE'S A TIP By JoAnn Derson * Buff out small scratches in glass with toothpaste. Apply a small dab and rub in circles lightly, then wipe away. * “Establish a family lost and found for small items that are discovered in places where they don’t belong. It can be as simple as socks or hairbrushes to money and electronics.” -- P.O. in Virginia * If an egg spills on the floor, sprinkle it with salt. Egg can be very slippery, and the salt will help keep it in place so that it is easier to clean up. * Give your garbage disposal some love and clean her out! Add a handful of baking soda and some crushed ice, then a cup of vinegar or lemon juice and follow up with hot water. * “Label storage bins on all sides so that no matter how you stack them, or which direction you shove them in, you can always see at a glance which are which. Recently, I went searching through my attic for a particular box, and several boxes were moved out of the way. I had to spend much more time turning them to face the right way so that the labels would be visible.” -- R.F. in Ohio * If a glass breaks, here’s a tip to get up those tiny glass shards that are impossible to pick up or sweep up: Use the inside of a slice of white bread, wadded up. No bread? You also can use a blob of play dough. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

Hiring managers want to hire a human, not a machine. When speaking about yourself, be sure to use strong action words that define your skills even further.
