PET OBESITY IS A GROWING PROBLEM

Pet Place _____________________2

Many pet owners would never intentionally harm their companion animals. In fact, pet owners often go above and beyond to ensure their animals are well cared for and content. However, many well-meaning people may be inadvertently harming their pets with something they provide each and every day: food. Obesity is on the rise among pets. The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention says that 54 percent of dogs and 59 percent of cats in the United States were categorized as overweight or obese in 2016. That marks an increase from 52.5 percent and 58.3 percent, respectively, from four years ago. The majority of veterinarians think that pet obesity is a significant problem and nearly half of pet owners admit that their vets have discussed a pet’s ideal weight with them during pet health visits.

Type of carpeting There are m any different types of carpeting, som e of w hich are best suited to certain situations. For exam ple, plush and saxony carpets are better in low -traffic areas. These carpets m ay show footprints and also vacuum tracks and dirt, but they’re higher on the com fort spectrum than other types of carpet. Berber, w hich is m ore flat and dense, helps m ask stains and tracks. It is durable in high-traffic areas. Textured carpets like frieze are cut from fibers of different heights, so they m ask stains and are also softer on the feet than berber. Padding It isn’t alw ays necessary to purchase the m ost expensive or thickest padding. How ever, it is w ise to pick a pad that m atches the type of carpeting you’re selecting and one that aligns w ith how you plan to use the room . You m ay be able to go w ith a thinner pad in low -traffic room s and beneath dense carpeting like berber. In high-traffic room s, choose a thicker, m ore durable padding. Padding prevents carpet backing and fibers from com ing apart over tim e. It pays to invest in a padding that w ill last as w ell. Installation Select a reliable carpet retailer and installer for your business. Com petent installers w ill lay the carpeting in the correct m anner so that it w ill look beautiful and m aintain its durability for the life of the product.

TOOLS OF THE HOME RENOVATOR’S TRADE

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

Home renovation projects can be both exciting and tricky. Do-ityourselfers are inspired by designs showcased in magazines, websites and their own communities. When DIY enthusiasts see a design they like, it’s understandable that they may want to emulate these looks at home. Remodeling is one of the larger DIY undertakings, and it goes beyond simple carpentry. Considering demolition, reconstruction, electrical, plumbing, and masonry work may be part of the DIY package, homeowners who are thinking about renovations must first stock up on the tools and other supplies of the trade. Having the right tools can mean the difference between a job well done and a job that needs to be redone.

INSURED • FREE QUOTES • FAMILY OWNED HOME HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING KEEP ANIMALS OUT OF YOUR GARDEN Erect physical barriers around gardens. Barriers may not be gardeners’ first choices, as some people feel barriers such as wire cages or mesh coverings make it more difficult to tend to gardens and rob gardens of some of their aesthetic appeal. But coverings and wire cages can effectively prevent wildlife from trampling or eating plants while still allowing the gardens to get adequate sunlight. Make sure barriers extend to the ground so animals cannot access gardens by entering beneath the barricades.

POST-WINTER GARDEN PREP Turn the greenhouse into a clean house. Spring cleaning is not just for the interior of a home. Cleaning a greenhouse in advance of spring can help gardeners evict any overwintering pests that can threaten plant life once spring gardening season arrives. A thorough cleaning, which should include cleaning the inside of greenhouse glass and washing flower pots and plant trays, also can prevent plant diseases from surviving into spring.

PROBLEMS THAT CAN LEAD TO LAWN DAMAGE Foot traffic: Lawns can take a pounding from foot traffic, leading to compaction and spots of dead lawn. Try to redirect the traffic elsewhere to give worn down areas a break. Aeration can relieve soil compaction. If a certain area has become the de facto pathway, install a paver, gravel or concrete walkway in that spot.

WORK PANTS: THE NEXT GENERATION (NAPSI)—Just as technology has had a major effect on the kind of work people do, it has also changed the clothes in which they do that work.

WE ARE NOW OPEN!

For example, with hard work in mind, a new collection of pants has been created by Carhartt with a unique blend of durability and functionality.

Early Flowers • Plants • Bulk Mulch • Topsoil (Soon!) Grass Seed & Straw • Seeds • Soils • Supplies Seed Potatoes • Onion Sets Soon!

“Our company has been around for nearly 130 years, and throughout our history, we’ve continued to improve our product offerings to fit the needs of our hardworking consumers,” says Deb Ferraro, vice president of product development at Carhartt. “This new collection of pants reinforces our commitment to setting a new standard for workwear.”

TIME TO WORK OUTDOORS!

Carhartt’s Steel Multi-Pocket pant, Steel Double-Front pant, and Steel Cargo pant feature the brand’s Full Swing® technology and a fabric blend of cotton, nylon and spandex. First introduced in 2015, Full Swing® uses stretch panels to provide ease of movement in the joints, improving hardworking consumers’ range of motion where they need it most—both on and off the job. Additionally, each of the new pant styles is equipped with knee pad openings designed to fit the company’s most recent innovation in knee protection. The Carhartt knee pad features a strapless, honeycomb design that maximizes durability and comfort, providing an easy-to-wear solution for impact protection.

The launch of these new work pants coincides with a celebration of Carhartt’s oldest work pants. The classic Firm Duck Double-Front Work Dungaree was first introduced to the company’s product line in 1939, and it is now the focal point of the brand’s latest campaign celebrating its sewing, cutting and distribution associates. The video highlights the product details while unveiling the craftsmanship behind every pair of the B01 Firm Duck Double-Front Work Dungarees. To learn more about Carhartt’s latest pants and knee pads, visit www.Carhartt.com. To watch the brand’s latest video, “61 Workers, One Mission,” visit the Carhartt channel on YouTube. HOW COUPLES CAN BENEFIT FROM HIRING LOCAL WEDDING VENDORS: Local vendors can meet with brides and grooms more readily throughout the planning process, making things less stressful on the happy couple. This also makes it easier to drop off deposits, attend meetings, make fitting appointments, or attend styling sessions.

Excerpt from

Elpis Israel by John Thomas This idea may be illustrated by reference to the law of inheritance among all civilized people. If a man be possessed of an estate, the members of his family alone have any right to it at his decease, Though all the world may be his friends, unless they are named in his will, they can have no part in the inheritance he may leave behind. And Again, if he have no heir, his estate and property would escheat to the lord of whom he happened to hold his title; but, to avoid this, it would be quite competent for him to adopt an heir according to the law. The person so adopted would become his seed in every respect save that of natural birth. In the case before us, God hath promised an estate to Abraham; therefore he is styled “THE HEIR OF THE WORLD” that is, of the glory, honor, and power, of the nations throughout the globe in their millennial blessedness – a gift worthy of Him that hath promised it, Now the promise of this to Abraham and his seed, is a promise to no one else. No stranger can lay claim to it. He must be Abraham’s seed, or he has no right to Abraham’s property. On this principle, no one who is not a lineal, or fleshly, descendant of Abraham can inherit the world with him when God fulfils the promise. This is the view taken of the matter by the Jews, who found their hope of participation in the world when it becomes Abraham’s and his seed’s, upon the acknowledged fact, that they are Abraham’s flesh and blood. This would be very well, if no other condition of inheritance were specified. But the word saith, that “the children of the flesh are not the children of God; but the children of the promise (those who believe it) are counted for the seed” (Rom. 9:8). If the children of the flesh had a right to share with Abraham when he obtains possession of the world which God has promised him, then all descended from Ishmael and Esau, his son and grandson, as well as from Isaac, would have equal rights. But God, who not only promises the estate, but specifies the conditions of heirship, has restricted the inheritance to those termed the “children of the promise as Isaac was” (Gal. 4:28). He has proclaimed the great truth that “the son of the bond-woman shall not be heir with the son of the free-woman” (Gal. 4:30). To be a son of the freewoman, a man; although a Jew, must believe in the promise made to Abraham; he must be of a like disposition with Abraham; he must be obedient like Abraham; he must have faith in Jesus as the seed of Abraham associated with him in the promise; he must believe in his name: he must be constitutionally Inducted into Christ by immersion into the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: - being the subject of these conditions he is included in the Family of God, to whose members it is said, “ye are all the children of God in Christ Jesus through the faith. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is no distinction of Jew or Gentile, bond or free, male or female, among you: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Gal. 3:26). These are the children of the promise, the children of God, the brethren and joint-heirs of Jesus Christ, the sons of the free woman, and Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob’s seed, who are alone entitled to possess the world with him.

NOW’S THE TIME TO

TEACH AT-HOME NUTRITION With a lot of parents facing the challenge of keeping housebound kids happy and healthy, this is the perfect time to teach kids the basics of nutrition and eating right. (Family Features) HEALTHY SNACK TIME TASTE TESTS: Sometimes it feels like kids can snack all day long on easy-to-grab crackers, chips or cookies. Next time they reach into the snack pantry, try incorporating a taste test or food critic activity to encourage something different and more nutritious. PURPOSEFUL PLAYTIME: Many households have a play kitchen or some kind of play food. Use this as an opportunity to act out how to create a healthy kitchen with activities like making salad, setting the table, peeling bananas and washing dishes. This can help young children become more independent, learn what to expect and grow into little helpers at family mealtime. SENSORY ACTIVITY: One idea that can work for school and at home is making a sensory box. Simply place a fruit or two inside a tissue box and have children put their hands inside then try to guess which fruit it is by feeling it.

DID YOU KNOW? HOROSCOPES ARIES (March 21 to April 19) You might be upset about having to deal with problems that are no fault of your own. But you can turn the annoyance into an asset by showing how quickly and how well you can resolve them. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) The Bovine’s fondness for tidiness pays off when you untangle a situation that seems hopelessly snarled. You might later be surprised to learn who will be expressing his or her gratitude. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Although you can tackle your assignment the way you prefer, it might be a good idea to at least ask for suggestions. Who knows? One or two might even turn out to be helpful. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Make all the changes in your plans or proposals that you feel are necessary before -- repeat, before -- you submit them to your colleagues. You’ll come off looking more decisive that way. LEO (July 23 to August 22) You might feel a mite intimidated in a new environment, be it a job, a classroom or meeting the future in-laws. But enter with a big smile, and everyone will see you as a real takecharge Cat. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) This could be a romantic time for you if you can set aside your cynicism and let yourself believe that someone really cares. If you’re already in a relationship, expect your partner to be extra-loving. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) It’s a good time to shed any doubts about your abilities. You’ve proved yourself in the past, so why not accept that you’ll do just as well, or better, in dealing with the new challenge ahead? SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Your suspicions might be on the mark, but unless you can prove what you assume, you need to exercise that Scorpion discretion and let events unfold without your assistance. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Be careful not to go over the top this week. Avoid overeating (especially of the wrong foods), or drinking too much, or working too hard. You can do it all, but in moderation. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) A family matter is given to you to resolve because you have the gift for bringing quarrelsome kinfolk together. But while you’re playing Dr. Phil, don’t neglect your career obligations. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Someone of importance shares your goals but disagrees with your plan to achieve them. Never mind. Defending your methods with logic and facts earns you admiration and respect. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Consider getting away, perhaps for the weekend, despite all the demands made on your time and energies. You’ll return refreshed and ready to tackle it all with your usual finesse. BORN THIS WEEK: You have a sense of honesty that makes people believe and trust in you.( c) 2020 King Features Synd., Inc.

The number of people who smoke is on the decline, as a 2018 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted that the percentage of adults in the United States who smoke cigarettes declined from roughly 21 percent in 2005 to 15.5 percent in 2016. That decline has no doubt helped reduce overall cancer death rates, though the figures regarding smoking-related deaths are still staggering. According to the CDC, smoking accounts for more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. The 2018 report from the CDC indicates that men (17.5 percent) are more likely than women (13.5 percent) to smoke cigarettes. In addition, the report notes a correlation between education and the likelihood of smoking cigarettes. While smoking was lowest among people who had graduate degrees, with only five out of every 100 such adults being smokers, smoking rates were highest (40.6 percent) among adults with graduate education degree certificates, or GEDs. While people who had no high school diploma were less likely to smoke cigarettes than GED recipients, the CDC report found that smoking rates declined the more education people received.

What Are the Benefits of Medical ID Tags? ---

DEAR DR. ROACH: My question is about medical bracelets and

necklaces. I’ve never seen any recommendations as to what conditions would warrant wearing one nor what the inscription should say. When are they either necessary or beneficial? -- D.A.M. ANSWER: Medical ID tags can be useful. They serve to alert medical personnel of potentially important medical conditions when someone is not capable of providing that information, whether due to temporary incapacity (such as being unconscious in a motor vehicle accident) or permanent disability (such as intellectual disability). In my opinion, the most appropriate use of these tags is when there is a potentially life-threatening medical condition that would not be obvious to emergency medical personnel. Some examples of these would include anaphylactic reaction to medications or latex; the presence of an illness that can cause temporary disability (epilepsy, diabetes, Addison’s disease); and medical conditions that might affect use of some common treatments, such as bleeding disorders, organ transplant status and medical implants (such as implantable defibrillators). Personal and contact information is a natural set of complementary information to have on a medical tag. Some newer tags include electronic information, but this is in its infancy. These include the use of near-field technology to let emergency personnel read the information (if they also have the technology); phone numbers the emergency personnel can call to get more information; and QR codes to allow emergency personnel with a smartphone to go to a webpage with more detailed information. Most smartphones also have the ability to store information that can be read in an emergency, even by someone without the person’s phone password. I recommend taking advantage of this feature. Many of the ID tags I see have information that is not likely to be helpful. Listing chronic conditions like high blood pressure or high cholesterol is not necessary. Finally, one of the biggest benefits of a medical ID tag is a little peace of mind.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF DEPRESSION There are different types of depression. A person may have a single bout of major depression or recurring episodes. Depression that lasts two or more years is called persistent depressive disorder. A less common type of depression is called manic-depressive illness. This involves cycles of depression that alternate with extreme highs, or manias.

need help in maintaining pH balance, why does the consumption of different foods cause changes in urine pH? -- K.F. ANSWER: The body has two main organs with which to regulate pH, the acid/base status of the body based on food intake, exercise, medications and other causes that would perturb the body’s pH, which is very tightly regulated and slightly alkaline at about 7.4. The more important and faster-acting is the lung. By increasing the respiratory rate, we excrete more carbon dioxide, which is in equilibrium with carbonic acid. Breathing more deeply and quickly can move the blood pH toward the alkaline side. This usually happens without our being aware of it. The kidneys are the other important organ for long-term regulation of pH. The kidneys can regulate reabsorption of carbonic acid in the tubule, increasing or reducing acid secretion. So, urine that is more acidic than normal may mean the body is ridding itself of excess dietary acid and thus making blood pH more alkaline. Ammonia is another way the kidney can regulate pH balance. Blood pH does not vary more than a minute amount from its expected level except in cases of critical illness, disturbances in kidney function or diseases that affect control of breathing.

Teletherapy DID YOU KNOW? Diamond engagement rings are presented as tokens of love and affection during wedding proposals. The majority of first-time brides will receive a diamond ring, with surveys indicating only 13 percent opt for another gemstone. Researchers from Emory University determined that the average price for a diamond ring is roughly $2,500. However, grooms can spend much more. Diamonds have symbolized eternal love for centuries, perhaps since they were first discovered in India more than 2,000 years ago. The ancient Greeks actually thought diamonds were tears of the gods, while ancient Romans believed diamonds were splinters from heavenly stars.

FLU-FIGHTING TIPS: Food can be used to fend of the flu. Common foods that many people already have in their pantries can be powerful flu-fighters. Garlic, for example, contains compounds that have direct antiviral effects and may help destroy the flu before it affects the body. Raw garlic is best. In addition to garlic, citrus fruits, ginger, yogurt, and dark leafy greens can boost immunity and fight the flu, according to Mother Nature’s Network. The British Journal of Nutrition notes that dark chocolate supports T-helper cells, which increase the immune system’s ability to defend against infection.

Easter

It is strange in its very concept. Yet with Easter approaching in just over a week on Sunday, April 12th, it is possible that many of us will not be able to gather to enjoy our usual Easter festivities and traditions. Those who welcome the holiday with an Easter Service may only be able to do so remotely. Families groups may not exceed more than 10, and Easter egg hunts will likely be cancelled. Much like Seuss’s Grinch found of Christmas, however, what beats at the heart of Easter can never be stolen away. Easter is a time for celebrating rebirth. Rabbits, chicks and eggs all speak to its long-standing ties to the earth’s renewal each spring. It is also a deeply religious holiday for many. For Christians, it is a time to rejoice in the resurrection of Jesus Christ the Son of God and His victory over death. For them, it reaches back to the foreshadowing found in the Jewish Passover, which is also observed around this time each year. During the Passover holiday, which takes place from April 8th-16th this year, those of Jewish faith celebrate their people’s historic and miraculous deliverance from slavery. In each celebration, there exists a common thread, the recognition of something we so badly need, especially in worrying times: hope. Rev. Henry Moore of the Hope Center in LeRoy has said that hope is “a confident expectation that believes tomorrow will be different, and more specifically, better than yesterday.” What an interesting definition and how personal! Recently, ending COVID-19 has been a hope that has united us both nationally and globally. While it is true that some have chosen a path of selfishness, many more have reached out to their neighbors in various ways, particularly through digital platforms, to offer support, supplies and simply to check in on the wellbeing of those around them. Many of us have been jettisoned, willingly or not, from the breakneck speed at which we usually fly through everyday life. With few places to go, more people are getting out into nature locally. You may have experienced seeing some of your neighbors for the first time, from a socially safe distance of six feet or more, of course, while checking out local hiking trails. This greater awareness will surely pull us closer together.

5 IDEAS FOR

Easter at Home Turn your home into a cheerful festival of spring. Encourage children to craft fun and colorful decorations for Easter. Watch their creativity and imaginations soar as they do! Enjoy your Sunday Easter Service remotely. Consider casting it to your living room TV and gathering your family together. Little ones may even want to dress up in their Easter finest. Hold an Easter Egg Hunt in your home. Get everyone in on the action by giving each family member different color eggs to hide and seeing whose eggs take the longest to find. Make favorite Easter dishes with your kids. Often in the rush to get everything made in time for guests, we are too hurried to teach our children cooking basics and importantly the stories of our family food traditions! Create a new family tradition. Traditions often come from significant events experienced together. Perhaps your new addition can reflect a way your family has bonded during this time.

In fact, now perhaps more than ever, it has become clear that our communities will continue to thrive when we cause them to thrive. Our local businesses will prosper when we go the extra mile for them. Our children will be successful students when we provide the extra support they need. In short, many Americans across our great nation are taking action. We are caring for our neighbors. We are buying gift cards and ordering takeout. We are engaging in our children’s education within our homes and are so thanksful for teachers. It’s beautiful to see! While there are still new COVID-19 cases across the United States, we know it is only a matter of time before we succeed in bringing this concern to a close. One of the best things we can do to care for our neighbors is to stay home as much as possible while connecting in other ways. Phone calls, video chats and uplifting social media posts serve as little points of hope, illuminating this dark sky. Some Easter traditions may be put on hold this year, but hope will never be one of them.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING TIPS (NAPSI)—These five tips can help you be prepared for the perils of the road. 1. Know Your Car. Like people, each car has a unique personality. Some features work better than others, and conditions can cause a vehicle to react a certain way. Knowing your car’s limits and behavior patterns can help you predict how it will respond in certain situations. How long does it take you to stop and how much pressure is required on the brake pedal? What’s your turn radius? Does your vehicle lean when you round a corner? Does it quake when you hit a certain speed? Knowing the answers can help you avoid accidents. 2. Use Extreme Caution During a Lane Change. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that one of the most common causes of two-lane auto accidents is unsafe lane changes. 3. Know Your Blind Spots. Most cars have at least one line of vision that’s not clearly evident in the rearview or side mirrors. Even carefully placed mirrors often cannot cover every possible angle. Move the side mirrors far outward so that the angle of view barely overlaps the view of the rearview mirror.

As golf remains an important piece of business culture, it is important to empower women to feel confident on the course. Why Play Golf Consider these stats and facts from the Professional Golfers Association:

(NAPSI)—Many women, looking to advance in their careers, have found the grass is always greener—on the golf course.

It is important to look for clinics like the Lexus “Introduction to Golf” events that start simple and focus on basics like putting and chipping. You’ll also want an intimate clinic, so you get the one-on-one attention you need as a beginner. If a local pro will be there to speak to the group, even better! It’s great to gain inspiration from those who live and breathe the game. Golf experts such as former LPGA Tour player Tara Fleming; Liz Caron, a member of the winning 2004 U.S. Curtis Cup Team; and Kyla Basso, a highly talented amateur golfer, were present at the Lexus-hosted clinics. Among their advice: 1. Don’t let yourself be intimidated when you step onto the course with clients or colleagues—you’ll do better if you remain confident and calm. 2. Allow yourself time to become familiar with the sport. 3. Don’t expect to be a pro from day one. With a little practice and hard work, you’ll be reaping the benefits of golf in no time!

I would like to express our appreciation for Anthony at Top’s pharmacy in Hamlin and give a shout out to all of those who must continue to work so that others can benefit. So, once again, thank you for still providing our needs when it comes to filling our prescriptions. To everyone, continue to stay well. Once again, thank you for a job well done. Maybe then they would be able to be nice to others around them. Maybe not.... Stop being so abrasive and obnoxious. You end up only hurting yourself and pushing away others around you. A big shout out to all the dedicated men and women, who are extending themselves for perfect strangers. What a lesson of what kindness is all about! A big thank you to those in the medical field. You are all truly heroes! With all the chaos and uncertainty in the world concerning the corona virus, each one of you are on the front battle lines. You are all truly dedicated people, who, at the risk of your own lives, unselfishly forge by using disposable gloves and plastic newspaper tubes or other plastic bags to pick up and carry out what other careless folks have left behind. You can put your hand inside the bag, pick up other people’s trash without touching it, then turn it inside out and take it to the nearest garbage receptacle and dispose of it. I have done it many times. I make sure I have a bag with me when I go to the woods because I can’t stand

forward to help others in the face of adversity. That certainly takes a special person. It speaks volumes about your character. As I sit in my home, snacking and channel surfing, the nurses, doctors, etc., are pulling long shifts without letting up. You leave your family, children, spouses to serve the needs of the community. How many of us would be able to do that? My heartfelt appreciation to you all. Stay safe.

looking at what people leave behind. In a time where so many are coming together and helping, being true hero’s, it is sad how some individuals can still be so ugly. Yes, that’s a strong word, but sadly true. Some people wouldn’t say hi or wave if their lives depended on it. They go out of their way to be the same disgruntled people they have always been. I don’t know how they can stand themselves! It could explain why they don’t have many, if any, friends. My mother and father always showed interest and genuine kindness in others. I was taught to treat others the way you would want to be treated. I would like to pass that advice to the above mentioned. If you were a nice person, perhaps you wouldn’t have such difficulty sleeping! At least I can sleep at night.

UNDERSTANDING LIFE INSURANCE Choosing coverage. When choosing how much coverage to purchase, it’s easy to go overboard and aim for as much as possible. However, many financial advisors suggest purchasing enough coverage to pay for funeral costs and a level of income replacement you can comfortably afford. If your spouse does not work, you should consider purchasing enough coverage so he or she can afford to pay the family’s day-to-day cost of living expenses. Lee Anne F. “He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything…” ~ Arabian proverb

Hope, which springs eternal in the human breast, is most essential to us all. No one’s life is perfect, but we can all hope for improvement. The most wretched, destitute beggar in the world can carry on only if there is hope… perhaps only hope that a crust of bread can be obtained to sustain life. Those who enjoy good health have reason to be hopeful. Their good health should permit them to work effectively toward the achievement of whatever they hope for. Good health is more precious than gold; it is the basis for hope, and hope is everything. We hope that you will ask us to explain the advantages of pre-need planning of funeral services. CONSERVE ENERGY AROUND THE OFFICE Determine how much space you truly need. Current business owners and prospective owners can save substantial amounts of money and avoid wasting energy by giving ample thought to how much office space they truly need. Large office spaces may not be necessary for businesses that recently downsized staff, while those starting out may want to start in small spaces before upgrading to larger spaces if and when their businesses expand. Small business owners leasing their office space can speak with their leasing agents to determine if they can include a clause in their lease that allows them to move into larger spaces if the need arises before their existing leases expire.

LEAVING A JOB GRACEFULLY Speak with your manager first. It’s respectful for your immediate manager or supervisor to learn of your departure first. This gives him or her ample time to put a plan in place to fill your position. The more notice you can give, the more goodwill you’re building on your way out the door. Schedule a meeting for this purpose; do not make it an informal chat by the water cooler. Resist the urge to quit via email or text. Resigning requires face-toface communication. Present a concise letter of resignation as well. Don’t call out colleagues or air your grievances in the letter.

Local and Transport Dedicated runs available. Full or Part-time Plus Benefits

Call 585-591-1624 RELOCATING FOR A NEW JOB Rent your first home. The Allied survey found that 31 percent of respondents indicated the most challenging part of relocating for a job was finding a home, while 29 percent felt acclimating to their new community was the most challenging aspect of their relocation. Adults who rent their first homes upon relocating can remove some of the pressure to find the perfect home, knowing full well their first home in their new community will be temporary. If possible, rent in a location that makes it easy to immerse yourself in your new community, which should make the adjustment easier. In addition, place items that are unnecessary for day-to-day life in storage. Having some of your possessions already packed should make your next move less stressful.

THE RIGHT WAY TO LEAVE A JOB Provide ample notice. Even if it is time to move on, ensure that your current employer has plenty of time to interview potential replacements and train someone to take your place. This ensures an easy transition for all involved, and can show your employer that you have the company’s best interests in mind. While two weeks’ notice is the standard, if you have held a professional position for some time, extend the courtesy to three.
