Homemade Desserts Webster Crossing United Methodist Church 7230 Route 15 Webster Crossing Rd., Springwater, NY DID YOU KNOW? Pizza continues to remain a popular comfort food and go-to staple for quick, family-friendly meals. Statistics Brain reports that 93 percent of Americans eat at least one piece of pizza per month. Five billion pizzas are sold worldwide each year, and the United States accounts for three billion of those pizzas. The average person will eat 46 slices of pizza each year. The world can thank Raffaele Esposito for creating the first pizza that resembled the pizza the world knows today. Esposito created the pizza for Italy’s Queen Margherita when she visited Naples in 1889. The crust was garnished with tomatoes, mozzarella and basil to represent the national colors of Italy: red, white and green.

HOROSCOPE
Join us for
ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Professional relationships grow stronger. But you might still need to ease some problems with someone in your personal life. One way could be to try to be less rigid in your views. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) You might be too close to that perplexing personal situation to even attempt to make a rational decision about it right now. Stepping back could help you gain a wider perspective. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Being asked to choose between the positions of two friends is an unfair imposition on you. It’s best to reject the “demands” and insist they try harder to work things out on their own. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) A change of mind about a workplace decision might be called for once you hear more arguments, pro and con. A personal event suddenly takes an unexpected (but pleasant!) turn. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Romance once again looms large for single Leos and Leonas, with Cupid favoring Taurus and Libra to inspire those warm and fuzzy Leonine feelings. Expect another workplace change. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) A surprise gift -- and, happily, with no strings attached -- could come just when you need it to avoid a delay in getting your project done. Expect education to dominate the week. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Someone close to you might ask for your support as she or he faces a demanding personal challenge. Offer it, by all means. But be careful you don’t neglect your own needs at this time. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) An unexpected development could put your relationship with a partner or spouse to an emotionally demanding test. But your determination to get to the truth should save the day. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) A recent agreement appears to be coming apart over the surfacing of unexpected complications. You might need to have expert advice on how to resolve the situation. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Your keen business sense helps you get to the truth about a suspicious business deal. Expect to have many colleagues rally to support your efforts in this important matter. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Someone who once moved in and out of your life through the years might now want to come back in on a more permanent basis. Give yourself a lot of time to weigh your decision. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Showing frustration over a delayed workplace decision might get someone’s attention, but not necessarily make him or her move any sooner. Best advice would be to be patient and wait it out. BORN THIS WEEK: You are drawn to excitement and enjoy fast-tempo music, with the more brass, the better.

FRIDAY, APRIL 5, 2019
DINING OUT WITH CHILDREN Active children can learn table manners and restaurant behavior early on through practice. These lessons can open children up to new food experiences and help them grow accustomed to social settings. Do not set your child up to fail by selecting a restaurant that is too fancy or quiet. Save those restaurants for when your company is adults only. A place that is used to noise (and moderate mess) is better. Bring along some games, toys and other trinkets to keep their attention. Try playing games, such as counting the packets of sugar or finding people wearing red shirts. Avoid dining out with a tired child, and be prompt in selecting meals and eating. This is not a time to linger, as youngsters’ attention spans and willingness to sit still tend to be minimal. Be prepared to leave with a to-go box if a child proves unruly.
HOW TO BE MORE COURTEOUS WHILE DINING OUT If something is not right with the meal, mention it early so it can be remedied. Do not eat an entire meal before filing a complaint with the server.

KEEP ANIMALS OUT OF YOUR GARDEN Install motion detecting lights around gardens. Motion detection technology might be enough to deter nocturnal wildlife from trampling or eating gardens. Animals might be spooked and run away when lights suddenly turn on. A similar approach can be taken using noise instead of lights. Gardeners who hope to avoid erecting barriers around their gardens can put up posts instead, attaching aluminum cans or wind chimes to the posts that will make noise when animals come near. Much like light, noise can be enough to deter animals.

CONTROL CRABGRASS BEFORE IT APPEARS Wait until the ground temperature rises above 60 F. Applying herbicides when the ground temperature is below 60 F might render the products ineffective. Gauging soil temperature can be tricky, but Lowes advises monitoring shrubs and trees on the property. Once shrubs begin to bloom and trees bud, herbicide can be applied.

PROBLEMS THAT CAN LEAD TO LAWN DAMAGE Mowing patterns: Running the mower in the same pattern over and over can cause ruts in the grass that lead to damage, so avoid mowing in the same direction on consecutive cuts. Avoid mowing on very hot days or when the lawn is soggy. Both can cause tracks to form in the lawn.

DID YOU KNOW? According to a survey of its users, the home improvement resource HomeAdvisor found that the average kitchen remodeling project took six weeks to complete. While some homeowners might be turned off by the prospect of having little or no access to their kitchens for more than a month, HomeAdvisor warns that the length of time it takes to complete a kitchen remodeling project depends on a host of factors, including the scope of the project. Some homeowners reported to HomeAdvisor that their projects lasted for several months, though those projects required extensive work, including moving walls and rearranging plumbing. Others who only replaced the flooring and countertops in their kitchens were back in business in just three weeks. Homeowners should always receive a projected completion date when soliciting estimates from contractors. But it’s also important that homeowners plan for unforeseen problems that may arise during the project, thereby extending the length of time necessary to complete it.

AVOID ACHES AND PAINS WHEN GARDENING Use ergonomic gardening tools. Ergonomic gardening tools are designed to prevent the types of aches, pains and injuries that can cut gardeners’ seasons short. Gardening injuries can affect any area of the body, but injuries or aches and pains affecting the back, wrists and hands are among the most common physical problems gardeners endure. Look for ergonomic tools that reduce the strain on these areas of the body. Even arthritis sufferers who love to garden may find that ergonomic tools make it possible for them to spend more time in their gardens without increasing their risk for injury.

Aesthetic appeal is one of the most sought-after benefits of gardening. However, many homeowners put in so much effort planting for one particular season that they may not give thought to ensuring the garden looks vibrant no matter the time of year. Gardeners can research planting zones to find plants that will blossom at different times of the year so they can enjoy impressive, aesthetically appealing gardens year-round. Spring bulbs can bloom early on, while annual and perennial summer favorites will thrive under the summer sun. Beautyberry and caryopteris will fill out in the autumn, while holly or mahonia can look lovely in the winter.

HOW EVERYDAY PEOPLE CAN CUT ENERGY CONSUMPTION Curtailing energy consumption is a great way for people to protect the planet’s natural resources and save money at the same time. Part of the difficulty with regard to reducing energy consumption is that energy plays such a big role in our lives. Smartphones and tablets have become must-have items, and these items, though not necessarily big consumers of energy, must be plugged in and charged. But individuals won’t have to unplug from their lives to reduce their energy consumption. In fact, there are several easy, non-invasive ways for everyday people to reduce their energy consumption. Reducing energy consumption does not require substantial sacrifice, but it can produce substantial savings and benefit the planet in myriad ways.

The lively sounds of the garden are created by the wildlife that come to pollinate and enjoy the environment gardeners have created. By choosing indigenous plants, gardeners can be sure that insects and small critters will seek refuge within the foliage. Songbirds also will add character to a yard. The Audubon Society suggests including a water source and a songbird border of shrubs along your property’s edge. Provide food sources and make sure they are located a fair distance from the main action of the yard so as not to scare off birds. Wait for musical chickadees, goldfinches, orioles, and cardinals to arrive and enjoy the accommodations.

Morris Ridge Solar Energy Center “Facility”, Livingston County, New York
NOTICE OF SUBMISSION OF PRELIMINARY SCOPING STATEMENT Morris Ridge Solar Energy Center, LLC, an indirect subsidiary of EDF Renewables, Inc. (“MRSEC” or “Applicant”) is proposing to construct a major solar electric generating facility up to 177 Megawatts (MW) in capacity in the Town of Mount Morris, Livingston County, New York. To construct the Facility, the Applicant must obtain a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need (“CECPN”) from the New York State Board on Electric Generating Siting and the Environment (“Siting Board”) pursuant to Article 10 of the Public Service Law and the Siting Board’s rules (16 NYCRR Part 1000). This notice announces that on or about April 1, 2019, the Applicant will file a Preliminary Scoping Statement (“PSS”), pursuant to 16 NYCRR 1000.5, which is designed to gather input from the public and interested agencies on the scope and methodology of studies to be conducted in support of a future Application. The filing of the PSS will start a 21-day public comment period on the scope and methodology of the studies proposed. The PSS filing marks the beginning of a formal public scoping process. The PSS document will, among other things, describe and identify: the environmental setting in the area where the Facility is proposed, the potential environmental and community impacts from construction and operation of the Facility, and anticipated benefits of the Facility on the environment and local community, as well as on the State’s achievement of its renewable energy generation goals. The PSS will identify and describe the proposed environmental studies it plans to conduct during the Article 10 process in order to assess potential impacts to land uses in the Facility Area; public health and safety; ecological resources, protected species and habitats, and water resources; communications, transportation, and utilities; cultural, historical and recreational resources; visual impacts and screening; sound; and impacts on the statewide electrical system, among other things. Further, the PSS will outline potential measures to minimize environmental impacts from the Facility, as well as reasonable alternatives, other required permits/authorizations, and other relevant information to be provided in the Article 10 Application. The Facility is proposed to include the installation of rows of photovoltaic (“PV”) panels, no more than 12 feet in height and arranged in discrete subarrays dispersed throughout the Facility Site, as well as associated electrical collection lines, inverters, up to 50 MW of energy storage capacity, fencing, access roads and an Operations and Maintenance (“O&M”) building. The Facility would deliver electricity to the New York State power grid via a short (less than 1,000 feet) transmission line connecting to a point of interconnection (“POI”) substation along the South Perry-Meyers 230-kV electrical transmission line, which bisects the Facility Site and which is currently owned by the New York State Electric and Gas Corporation (“NYSEG”). More information on the proposed Facility can be found on the Siting Board’s website under Case 18-F-0440, on the project’s dedicated website (https://www.morrisridgesolar.com), and at the local document repositories listed at the end of this notice. Within 21 days after filing of the PSS, any person, agency or municipality may submit comments on the PSS by serving such comments to the Applicant and filing a copy with the Secretary to the Siting Board at the addresses provided below. The Applicant will prepare a summary of the material comments and its reply to those comments within 21 days after the closing of the comment period. The scoping process is overseen and mediated by Hearing Examiners. The Hearing Examiner will schedule a pre-application meeting, which will commence the stipulations negotiation process and will allow for the discussion and award of intervenor funding. Additional notice of the pre-application meeting will be published by the Examiners. To facilitate participation by local municipalities and community groups, the Applicant will provide $61,950 (or $350 per MW) toward an intervenor fund, which is disbursed by the Hearing Examiners to groups seeking assistance with expenses associated with their participation in the Article 10 process during the pre-application review phase. By law, at least fifty percent of these intervenor funds are reserved for host municipalities. Once the PSS is filed, the Hearing Examiners will issue a notice that such intervenor funds are available, will describe the kinds of expenditures which are eligible for receipt of those monies, and will provide instructions and a schedule for interested groups to apply for pre-application intervenor funds. Later in the Article 10 process, when the formal Article 10 Application is submitted, additional application-phase intervenor funding will be made available to facilitate municipal and party participation in the Application and Hearing phase. The Risks And Rewards Of Multilevel Marketing (NAPS)—Many retirees and others looking for extra income consider what’s known as multilevel marketing (MLM) or network marketing. It’s a type of direct selling where products are purchased from a company and sold through independent contractors. These contractors make commissions from what they sell, and from sales made by people they recruit. It doesn’t always work out the way they hope, however, according to a new survey from AARP Foundation, the affiliated charity of AARP. A few facts and hints may help: • Among the more than 20 million Americans who have participated in MLM organizations, 90 percent got involved to make money. • Nearly half lost money. • A quarter made no money. • Two-thirds would not join the same or another MLM organization again. • 39 percent stopped participating because it felt awkward to pitch to friends and family. • Four out of 10 say the company misled them about their chances for financial success. • MLM participants are primarily women with college degrees. • One-third were recruited by a friend and 12 percent by a family member. “We have witnessed many of our constituents joining these organizations, sometimes to their financial detriment. We want consumers to become better educated about MLMs before they invest valuable time and resources,” said Amy Nofziger, Program Director with AARP Foundation. To help, AARP Foundation suggests these four things: 1. Set your expectations and understand the costs. Recognize that MLMs require patience, persistence, and an investment of time and money. Make sure you’re clear on what you expect to get out of participating and what’s expected of you from the MLM. 2. Do your research. Thoroughly investigate the company. Visit the websites of the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission to see if there are any complaints about the company. Speak to current representatives and recent participants. Conduct an online search of the company name featuring keywords such as “work hours” and “incentives” to see what others are saying. 3. Get comfortable with selling. How do you feel about having business conversations with close friends and family? 4. Can you afford startup costs? Are you OK taking risks with your money? Learn More For further tips, resources and educational videos, and to download the toolkit “Multilevel Marketing: The Research, Risks and Rewards,” visit www.aarp.org/MLMaware. Beore you take up network marketing, there are a few steps to consider. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

HEALTH BENEFITS OF HONEY Regulates blood sugar: The combination of fructose and glucose in honey may help the body regulate its blood sugar levels, which could be beneficial to those with diabetes. Certain types of honey also may have a lower hypoglycemic index, which means they don’t cause a dramatic shift in blood sugar, according to the food and health resource Real Food for Life.

SPRING CLEANING PROJECTS YOU DON’T WANT TO FORGET BATHROOM S: Bathrooms also tend to bear the brunt of w inter w eather, as mold and grime can accumulate throughout a season in w hich it’s too cold to open bathroom w indow s to let fresh air in after bathing. Inspect ceilings, tubs, show er stalls, and floors for any signs of mold grow th or grime. M old grow th in a home can lead to respiratory problems and exacerbate existing conditions such as asthma, so it’s best to inspect bathrooms for any signs of mold grow th throughout w inter. If you have let that slip, prioritize such inspections come spring cleaning time.
THE BIBLE SAYS “For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.” (Isaiah 54:5) “Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” (Isaiah 55:3,6,7) “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.” (Isaiah 55:1)

DEAR DR. ROACH: Can you please explain how an MRI machine
Doctors of Audiology Caring for you and the community since 2001.
Delivering The Freedom Of Choice DID YOU KNOW? Testicular cancer is not common, but it does affect about one out of every 250 males at some point in their lifetimes, states the American Cancer Society. The average age at the time of diagnosis of testicular cancer is about 33. Unfortunately, the rate of testicular cancer, at least in the United States, increased over the last several decades, particularly in seminomas. It is important to note that testicular cancer can usually be treated successfully, so the risk of dying from the disease is very low. Still, it is important to discuss risk factors with one’s doctor, alerting physicians to any abnormalities in the testes or during urination, which may indicate a problem.
affects the pigment in a tattoo? My friend’s MRI procedure was stopped because she was experiencing a burning sensation at her lower eyelids, which had previously been tattooed with black ink. Does this happen only with black ink? Which colors are safer? -- J.H. ANSWER: Reactions between the ink in tattoos and MRI scanners are well-documented in the literature. Some inks -- mostly black, red and brown -- are made with iron or titanium oxides. Only 1.5 percent of people with tattoos have reported bad experiences in MRI machines. Iron and titanium oxides conduct electricity, and the strong magnetic field in an MRI scanner can cause a current to travel between different tattoos or different portions of a tattoo -especially those with loops in the pattern. The electric current causes heat, and even can cause minor burns. Cold packs or ice placed on the area during MRI can minimize damage, but some MRI facilities will not perform an MRI on tattooed individuals, especially if the tattoo covers a large area. If a magnet draws up the skin with a tattoo, then that area is at risk. ***
DEAR DR. ROACH: I recently was diagnosed with transient global amnesia. I had never heard of this. My primary care doctor sent me for further testing, which included an MRI and MRA with contrast, and a CT scan. All were normal. Can you elaborate on this condition? -- M.T.M. ANSWER: Transient global amnesia is a cause of retrograde amnesia (“retrograde” meaning you don’t remember things from the past, usually the past day to a month, but sometimes longer; “anterograde” means memory loss forward from the time of the event). Its cause is unknown, but it occurs more frequently in men and women over 50. Your doctor ordered the appropriate tests to make sure it wasn’t a transient ischemic attack or stroke. Epilepsy sometimes can look similar to TGA, so sometimes an EEG is obtained. As scary as it sounds, TGA usually doesn’t happen again and doesn’t predict a higher risk of developing memory troubles, stroke or epilepsy in the future. ***
DEAR DR. ROACH: My wife has COPD. She is not coping very well. Her doctors are treating her with the standard medications. She has heard about an experimental treatment where they take her stem cells and make them into something that is inhaled. Have you heard about this treatment? Is it safe? Each treatment is $7,000. -- J.W. ANSWER: Stem cells are cells that can develop into many kinds of mature cells. In theory, they can grow and replace cells that have been damaged or destroyed due to a disease process. Stem cells hold great promise for many diseases, but there isn’t enough information for me to make a recommendation for stem cells in COPD, for either safety or effectiveness. If you are going to look into it further, I would recommend doing so only as part of a clinical trial. You can find out about clinical trials at www.clinicaltrials.gov. I was able to find some trials on the site that are recruiting subjects. I also would recommend www.closerlookatstemcells.org/ to anyone considering stem cell treatment.

DEPRESSION COMMON BUT TREATABLE It’s normal to experience feelings of sadness and grief from time to time. But when these feelings are prolonged or interfere with daily life, they may be symptomatic of depression. Depression can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or economic status. The National Institute of Mental Health says around 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression. Understanding depression can help those dealing with the disorder.

DID YOU KNOW? Keeping newborn babies safe is a priority for mothers, fathers and other caregivers. Various ailments can afflict newborns, and one many new parents may be unfamiliar with is respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV. According to Hackensack Meridian Health, RSV is the leading cause of hospitalization of babies younger than one year of age in the United States. RSV produces symptoms similar to the common cold or the flu and can include runny nose, cough and trouble breathing. In severe cases, particularly in infants, a baby may need to be hospitalized if his or her breathing is greatly compromised. Examples of severe infections include bronchiolitis (an inflammation of the small airways in the lung) and pneumonia. RSV also can affect adults, but healthy adults are usually only affected by mild symptoms, says the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In such instances, recovery can take between one and two weeks. Researchers are looking into immunizing pregnant women against RSV as a way to help protect babies from the virus. Farmers Give Back Project Prepares to Feed Families for Its 13th Year By Amanda Dudek well.” The project also looks beyond the numbers. “Most charities require people to show that they receive government assistance if they ask for help; we don’t,” Jodi explained. “Every person has needs for different reasons.” 2018 was their biggest year yet. “Last year and the year before, we reached 7 counties,” said Jodi. “This included donating to homeless shelters, food pantries, churches who do food kitchens, Friends Feeding Friends out of Buffalo and vans that travel to homeless encampments.” Beau Teed Farm hasn’t forgotten its neighbors either. “We try to find people to give to in Livingston County, too,” Jodi said. “We are very proud to have helped 32 families last year.” Jodi & St Stevenn Teed with produce duce for f the Farmers Fa Give Back Project. Proje
J
odi Teed of Beau Teed Farm has given us yet another reason to thank local farmers. In 2006, Jodi Teed began what has become the Farmers Give Back Project. For the past 12 years, Jodi and Beau Teed Farm have provided produce and meat products to area food pantries as well as directly to families in need. “My husband and I bought this farm 20 years ago,” said Jodi. Jodi’s family has a strong background in farming, and her husband had worked on a neighboring farm throughout high school. “We started growing and raising our own food, and when we had extra, we would donate it to places like the Open Door Mission in Rochester and the Honeoye Food Pantry. We just kept adding places!” Jodi explained that giving really opened her eyes to an ongoing need. “Places like food pantries have needs I didn’t expect,” Jodi shared. “For example, it is right after Thanksgiving that many food pantries are hit hardest. Also, food pantries do not often receive fresh food,” she added. “A lot of the donated foods are canned.” This realization led Jodi and her husband, Steven, to redouble their efforts. “We started donating more and more,” Jodi said, enthusiastically. “After we would pick and sort food, selling Grade A produce to stores and restaurants, we always had plenty of good produce left over.” Beau Teed Farm began donating chickens, turkeys at Thanksgiving and loads of produce. Things really took off when the idea caught on with other area farmers. “I remember it was Giving Tuesday,” said Jodi, referring to the philanthropy-focused Tuesday following Thanksgiving. “We had received a message through Facebook which featured Bill Gates asking, ‘What can you do to make a difference?’ That really resonated with me.” Jodi said she immediately called up a farmer friend in Elba and explained how her Farmers Give Back Project works. They were eager to participate. “We sent a truck over there, and they filled it up!” exclaimed Jodi. Jodi recalled another generous farm, DeGroff ’s of Castile, which offered them squash. When they arrived, they found 80 bushels of it. “By that Saturday, I had all kinds of vegetables from all over Western New York,” added Jodi. The Project only continued to grow from there. “We donate all kinds of fresh food from our farm,” said Jodi. “Including fresh veggies like potatoes that last well in cold storage. The Monks of the Abbey of the Genesee donated 600 loaves of bread,” Jodi continued. “Marquart Farm brought us several pallets containing over 1,000 bags of family size potato chips. Star Growers, owned by long-time friends, the Starowitz family, donated, and we received apples from two farms. Another farm, owned by the Casper family, donated beef.”
Area farmers have also stepped up generously. “Last year, we had people throughout 7 counties contributing just because we made phone calls asking for help,” Jodi stated gratefully. “DeGroff donated over 100 bushels of produce last year. Monks Bread works with us, and they are awesome,” Jodi continued. “They always help us with charity bread whenever there is a need. In addition, Casper’s Farm donated several boxes of packaged hamburger to us.” Jodi said there are so many additional farms and friends who have donated and participated, and while they cannot name them all, they are so grateful for people’s outstanding generosity.
We are making a difference!
“We provide a great opportunity to learn about growing healthy produce,” added Jodi, passionate about food-related education. “We - Jodi Teed also help families learn how to cook it. We now include recipe cards in our food packages, especially for things like cabbage,” Jodi said. “We even put together a small recipe book this past year.”
“Our biggest need this year is volunteers,” shared Jodi. “My husband works, and I have physical limitations. We really need more help.” This year, Jodi hopes the Farmers Give Back Project will grow even more. “We are looking for people to help with planting, weeding, picking, gardening, tractor maintenance and food delivery,” Jodi explained. “We need weekly and biweekly help throughout the growing season. The hours are extremely flexible. We have seeds that have already been donated to get us going this year. We are making a difference, and we would like 2019 to be our biggest year yet.” For more information on the Farmers Give Back Project, please call Jodi Lyn Beaumont Teed at (585) 313-3219. Have something interesting you’d like to share with our readers? Perhaps an original story, a personal experience, community happening, or school event? Over the years, the Project’s impact has continued to grow. “We sponsor families now,” said Jodi. “We drop off emergency food boxes, and police officers reach out to us with the needs they see, as

While high school seniors on the cusp of graduating and moving on to college give ample thought to their college majors, many are likely to change majors at least once after enrolling in a college or university. According to the University of La Verne, between 50 and 70 percent of college students change majors at least once, and many of them will change their majors three times before they graduate. The University also reports that 50 percent of college graduates pursue careers that are not related to their majors. Career and personality assessments can help students determine which subjects they may want to study upon enrolling in a college or university. Such assessments can help students discover their interests, and then students can work with advisors and career counselors at their colleges or universities to find majors that align with those interests. High school seniors on their way to college in the coming months can rest easy that, even if they don’t know what to study when they arrive on college campuses this fall, many of their fellow freshmen are equally uncertain.

RESPECTFUL ATTIRE While there has been a notable shift in everyday dress from more formal to casual wear, it should be noted that a funeral requires respect to be paid to the deceased by wearing appropriate attire that properly suits the occasion. Funeral attendees are highly encouraged to wear clothing that reflects the high regard in which they held the person they are now visiting for the final time. As is the case with other important events such as weddings and graduations, a funeral marks a momentous time in a person’s life. Because a funeral specifically commemorates the deceased’s final appearance on earth, it is important to dress in a manner that befits the occasion. A funeral is a somber occasion, so it is best to dress in conservative colors and styles. You don’t have to wear all black, but it is acceptable to do so. You will probably want to avoid a bright floral dress or wild print or neon necktie, unless the family of the deceased asks you to. It is also not appropriate to show too much skin. To learn about our funeral services, please call KEVIN W. DOUGHERTY FUNERAL at (585) 346-5401. Please tour our facilities at Livonia and Honeoye, NY.
For many years, Slim was a welder by trade for Stone Conveyor in Honeoye. He excelled at many jobs along the way, before going to work for Atlas Van Lines as a mover and truck driver. Friends and Family were welcome to come and share memories on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 10AM-12PM at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, 21 Big Tree Street, Livonia, NY. A Funeral Service to celebrate Slim’s life directly followed calling hours. Interment will take place at Greenmount Cemetery on Greenmount Ave in Dansville, NY following Slim’s Funeral Service in Livonia. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Contribution may be made to Livingston County Hospice Program, 2 Murray Hill, Mt. Morris, NY 14510. To send a condolence or share a memory, please visit: www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

CREATE AN ENDURING MEMORIAL FOR A LOVED ONE Create a scholarship fund. What better way to honor a loved one’s memory than to create an avenue to help others in his or her name? Scholarship funds are an ideal way to honor a deceased loved one. Work with the deceased person’s alma mater to establish a scholarship at that school.
~ James Oppenheim
It takes a certain amount of maturity and wisdom to realize that the grass is NOT always greener in the other fellow’s yard, even though young men have traditionally gone to distant places to seek their fortune. It is easy to deplore the lack of opportunity near to home. We know the situation here and we see no easy way to fame and fortune, so we may look to faraway places. The wisest among us looks for, and often finds, whatever he wants… including happiness… at home, right under his feet. We are always available to help, whether with pre-need planning or at the time of need. You can depend on us for the kind of help and advice you would expect from a trusted friend.

Sympathy Sayings You can address your card with “Dear” and sign off “With deepest sympathy” •Sending you positive thoughts through this difficult time. I want you to know how special your family is to us and we are here for you. •At time like these it is best to lean on your faith and your friends. Whichever one is closer. Your __________ will be forever missed. •Words can not express the heartache we feel for you and your family. We hope you allow the love around you to help ease your pain. •The memories will last forever, but ___________ (deceased) spirit will sorely be missed. We are here for you whenever you want to reminisce about all the good times we shared together. •Your amazing spirit continues to shine through this time of loss. Stay strong, love does conquer all. •You are in our prayers. May your spirit focus on all the love around you during such a difficult time. •Take it easy on yourself right now. Time is the only thing that will help your heart sing again.
UNDERSTANDING LIFE INSURANCE Deciding if you need coverage. While life insurance seems like the kind of thing every person should have, that’s not necessarily the case. For example, single men and women with no dependents and no tax or debt concerns generally do not need life insurance. If you are single but have tax issues or a considerable amount of debt, then a life insurance policy can be used to pay those debts upon your death. Adults with dependents, such as a spouse and/or children, should consider purchasing life insurance, which can help your surviving dependents maintain their quality of life and pay their bills in the wake of your death.

We have gone to [local store] in [local town] for years. They hire many new young cashiers there frequently. Most of the workers are polite and kind. A month ago, my husband and I were in line and there was a new young female cashier attending. When we reached the front of the line, my husband had walked clear away from the register where I was paying for the items. The cashier turned clear around to him with her back to me and gave him an inappropriate flirtatious “hi”, turned back around to ring up our items and

Our sincere gratitude and thanks to those who offered their assistance at Eddie O’Brien’s restaurant in Canandaigua last Sunday. My husband suffered a sudden seizure and lost consciousness due to a recently diagnosed medical condition. We wish to thank the restaurant staff who quickly called 911 and the kind and caring patrons at the next table who offered their comfort and support. The Canandaigua Emergency Squad arrived quickly. They were wonderful; professional and caring while transporting him to the hospital. We deeply appreciate your help.
To the person who complained about being wished “a happy holiday:” I read several objections to your comments. One said you should not say Merry Christmas as you may offend someone. Another said you are being insensitive and disrespectful. I applaud you for saying Merry Christmas. For those who wish to change the way we or the large percentage of people living in the U.S. acknowledge the spirit of the season, I say toughen up! Political correctness is insensitive to the majority of us Americans.
