Refresh Your Home for Spring Get rid of grime A whole season’s worth of dirt and dust accumulates during the cold winter months. A deep clean inside and out can restore your home to its former glory. Inside, take time to launder all of your linens, including curtains, rugs and bedding. Move furniture to vacuum behind and below, and don’t overlook dust and dirt magnets like mirrors, light fixtures and the insides of cabinets, especially higher shelves that see infrequent use. Outdoors, hose off or power-wash surfaces like windows, siding, decks and concrete to restore a crisp, clean appearance.

DID YOU KNOW? In the 2015 version of its annual survey of colleges and universities to determine which majors earn students the best starting salaries, PayScale.com collected data from 1,000 universities, including 86 percent of American schools with undergraduate enrollments exceeding 5,000 students. Among the 207 majors included in the 2015 survey, students who earned bachelor’s degrees in early childhood education had the lowest starting salary, at just under $30,000. The average mid-career salary for early childhood education majors was $38,000, the second lowest mid-career salary of any major included in the study. Child and family studies majors had the second lowest starting salaries, earning an average of $31,200. Rounding out the five lowest starting salaries were culinary arts ($31,900), child development ($32,200) and early childhood and elementary education ($32,300). Child development majors had the lowest mid-career salaries, earning an average of $36,400. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

❒■❒■❒■❒■❒■❒■❒■❒■❒■ While many people visit yard sales looking for antiques or other unique items that likely can’t be found at traditional retailers, yard sale shoppers should know that their efforts can be great for the environment. Shoppers can browse through gently used items that no longer serve utility for the seller but may be just what buyers are looking for. Rather than throwing out belongings that get little use, people who organize a sale are reducing their contributions to nearby landfills.

HOST A SUCCESSFUL YARD SALE Instead of giving away unwanted items that have gathered dust around the house, many people turn to garage and yard sales to transform their clutter into some extra money. Yard sales may not be a “get rich quick” scheme, but they present an environmentally friendly way to clean up a home. What’s more, they can be an ideal way to connect with neighbors and meet new people. Any money earned is an added bonus. Statistics collecting resource Statistics Brain says that roughly 165,000 yard/garage sales take place in the United States each week. Nearly 700,000 people purchase something at those sales, leading to millions of dollars exchanging hands.

STRANGE BUT TRUE By Lucie Winborne * Caffeine, which is found in tea leaves, guarana berries, kola nuts and, of course, coffee beans, acts as a natural pesticide. It overloads the nervous systems of insects that try to eat the plants containing it, paralyzing and even killing them before they can do too much damage. REASONS TO SHOP FARMERS’ MARKETS Foods at farmers’ markets tend to be limited to in-season offerings. Some nutritionists suggest eating seasonally available foods is better for your body, because humans ate seasonal produce for thousands of years before shipping and refrigeration changed how people received the majority of their foods. In addition, many people feel that fresh, seasonal foods taste better than the alternatives. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

College is the first taste of true independence many young students experience. Whereas mom and dad were always around to make sure kids were out the door on time and homework was done, that safety blanket is no longer there once kids move into their dorm rooms. The transition from high school to college can be both exciting and difficult. But parents can get a head start on that transition by encouraging their youngsters to be more independent during their final year of high school.

Fireworks displays are a hallmark of summer, and a frequent component of Independence Day celebrations and commemorative events that require a touch of flair. Aweinspiring pyrotechnics shows lure millions of spectators around the world each and every year. Many people experiment with fireworks on their own, but that can be dangerous. According to the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission, thousands of people are injured by fireworks in the United States each year. Whether purchased legally or on the black market, fireworks pose a considerable threat. Fireworks purchased on the black market may be especially dangerous, as they likely were not subjected to government regulations and inspections. While summer might be the season of fireworks, it’s important that people who intend to incorporate fireworks into their summer festivities keep safety in mind at all times. The following are a handful of ways to ensure this summer is both fun and safe. •

Attend a municipal firework display rather than hosting your own. Professionals follow certain safety protocols that private citizens are unfamiliar with, and there is often a considerable distance between audiences and professional fireworks displays.

Exercise caution if fireworks are legal where you live. Maintain a safe distance from fireworks at all times and never allow children to handle fireworks.

Read and strictly adhere to manufacturer’s instructions.

Light only one firework at a time, and never attempt to re-ignite a firework that doesn’t light the first time around.

Do not carry fireworks in your pocket.

Do not shoot fireworks out of metal or glass containers.

Always wear safety glasses when lighting fireworks, and keep water or a fire extinguisher around for emergencies.

PAW’S CORNER By Sam Mazzotta

Dog’s Begging Spirals Out of Control DEAR PAW’S CORNER: Our dog “Boadicea” is a sweetheart, but when she wants a treat she turns into a little monster. She drools on my arm, chews on my roommate’s shoe (with his foot in it), barks loudly, yips ... whatever it takes. We eventually break down and give her a treat. This happens several times a day. How can we stop this behavior? -- Darren in Manchester, New Hampshire DEAR DARREN: There are two steps I’d recommend to curb this behavior, because you know the downside of Boadicea’s begging: spiraling behavioral problems, future digestive issues and potential obesity. First, reinforce her basic obedience training. Work with her at least once a day on the “sit,” “stay,” “lie down,” “leave it” and “come here” commands. I recommend not working with her during the time that you’re normally relaxing in the living room with your roommate, because you want to try to reinforce that certain places and times are for training, play or treats. Obedience training alone won’t resolve the problem, though, because she’s developed a habit of begging whenever you’re trying to relax or socialize. So, you’ll need to employ the “ignore and divert” strategy as well. Ignore her attention-seeking behavior for a specific amount of time ... say, five minutes. Next, command her to either sit or lie down, and give her a chew toy. When she inevitably gets up to beg again, repeat the process. Don’t give her a treat at all. This will take time, but eventually she will get it. Many dog owners add a structured treat time to the day. For example, after your dinner and dishes are done, she can have her treat. This will help reinforce when and where she gets treats, and how she is supposed to behave. Send your tips, questions and comments to ask@pawscorner.com. (c) 2021 King Features Synd., Inc.

USING CRATES WHEN TRAINING PUPPIES The AKC urges dog owners who plan to crate train their puppies to find appropriately-sized crates before they begin training. Crates should be just large enough for dogs to lie down, stand up and turn around. Dogs won’t embrace crates that are too small, and crates that are too big will give dogs the impression that they can use one corner to defecate and use the rest for sleep or play. That’s the wrong message to send, as dogs should never be encouraged to relieve themselves in their crates.

How to protect your pets from extreme heat Don’t leave pets in a parked car. The temperature inside a vehicle can quickly approach dangerous levels on hot days, so pet owners should never leave their pets in parked cars, even if they leave the air conditioning on and the engine running. The HSUS notes that on an 85-degree day, temperatures inside cars with slightly cracked windows can reach 102 degrees in as little as 10 minutes. Rather than taking pets with you on car trips, leave them at home inside a comfortably air conditioned room where they won’t be vulnerable to rising temperatures.

WAYS TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES Invite small business owners to community activity centers, nursing homes, schools, and the like to share their experiences about starting a business in the area.

PET OBESITY IS A GROWING PROBLEM Many pet owners would never intentionally harm their companion animals. In fact, pet owners often go above and beyond to ensure their animals are well cared for and content. However, many well-meaning people may be inadvertently harming their pets with something they provide each and every day: food. Obesity is on the rise among pets. The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention says that 54 percent of dogs and 59 percent of cats in the United States were categorized as overweight or obese in 2016. That marks an increase from 52.5 percent and 58.3 percent, respectively, from four years ago. The majority of veterinarians think that pet obesity is a significant problem and nearly half of pet owners admit that their vets have discussed a pet’s ideal weight with them during pet health visits.

NOW HERE’S A TIP By JoAnn Derson * Rubbing alcohol can be used to remove ballpoint-pen ink from most upholstery. * “Polish wall tiles in the bathroom using car wax. They will repel water really well. Just be sure that you cover the floor before you apply any wax. You do not want to polish your tub, as that is a safety hazard for sure!” -- M.W. in Missouri * If you have wood floors, you might already know about felt furniture pads -- the little self-stick felt circles you put on furniture legs to reduce scratches on your floors. You might not know that these same pads can reduce scuff marks that appliances make on countertops. It also makes it easier to scoot around a heavy mixer or other appliances. * “Check your mower to see if you’re cutting your lawn to the optimum height. Generally, cutting grass to 2 1/2 inches will allow it to retain more moisture, requiring less watering, and help shade out weeds, too.” -- O.F. in Alabama * Here’s a workout tip: Rotate among a few pairs of running shoes to get the best life out of them. Rotating gives them a chance to dry out between wearings, and runners who practice this routine have a 39% lower chance of injury, according to a Luxembourg research firm. * “If you’re looking to save money, don’t ignore the dollar store. You can find a lot of personal-care and home-care items there for, well, a dollar. I save quite a bit of money this way.” -- R.L. in Texas

Amazing Staff at Batavia’s Perry Pet I am overdue in thanking the amazing staff at Perry Pet in Batavia. We went through an incredibly difficult time this past April when we had to say goodbye to our sweet girl. Our dog was almost 17 years old and a huge part of our family. The staff at Perry Pet were kind, helpful, considerate, and so supportive during this time. Because of their kindness, we were able to have our whole family together one last time. I can’t tell you how much this meant to us. We cannot thank you enough for helping us through one of the most difficult times our family has gone through and for treating our girl with grace and dignity. The beautiful card and the touching memento that were sent to us afterwards were such an amazing surprise. Now we have her paw prints framed and a touching reminder of our sweet girl. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Credit where it’s due I’d like to thank Alexander Central School, its administrators, teachers, and the school board at the time for getting me involved at a young and impressionable age. I learned a lot.

Mind your own business To the person who put a face mask on, entered the fitness room, and tried to belittle me and make fun of the fact that I wear a mask.(You never wear a mask.) I am vaccinated, but I still wear one to protect myself and others, unike you. Then, you ask me what I’m doing on the treadmill and tell me that I should be outside walking. You then replied that you walk 4 miles a day outside. So what? Who are you to judge me? Who are you to know why I have to use a treadmill? I guess you don’t know I have titanium in three different parts of my body (rods, plates and cadaver bone). I’ve had two surgeries on my spine and a botched foot surgery. Stay in your lane, buddy, and mind your own business! A sad week for our country! After 20 years our time in Afghanistan has ended. After great cost in terms of human life and money spent the people that supported us there have been left in many cases high and dry. It might have always ended like this but it’s still a shame that things came to a close the way they did. Nonetheless thanks to all the vets that served there overseas. To those who are unvaccinated. In case you haven’t heard, hospitals are overrun with Covid patients, children are struggling to breathe (they don’t have the choice to get vaccinated) and thousands of people are dying. All because you “know your rights” and want the government to butt out. How many of you refused your stimulus check? Your unemployment? Your Social Security? It’s time to start thinking about someone other than yourself. It’s not too late to do the responsible thing and get vaccinated.

DID YOU KNOW? According to Let’s Move!, a comprehensive initiative launched by First Lady Michelle Obama to combat childhood obesity, doctors are concerned that the rise of obesity in children and teens may lead to problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, and sleep apnea as they age. Children who are obese may have high cholesterol, high blood pressure and an abnormal glucose tolerance, increasing their risk factors for cardiovascular disease. But poor physical health is not the only concern parents should have if their children are obese. Overweight and obese children are often targets of social discrimination, which can negatively affect their selfesteem and may even hinder their academic and social functioning. Parents concerned about their children’s weight should consult their children’s physicians and recognize that a combination of daily exercise and a healthy diet is the most effective way to help kids lose weight and maintain a healthy weight into adulthood.

CLOTHING AND CANCER PREVENTION Many people choose their clothes based largely on their own unique fashion sense. But the clothes people wear can serve a greater purpose than broadcasting their sense of style to the world. The Skin Cancer Foundation notes that clothing is the first line of defense against the sun’s harmful ultraviolet, or UV, rays. The right clothing can absorb and block UV radiation and the SCF recommends wearing such attire as part of an effective sun protection regimen. When purchasing clothing, consumers are urged to determine each article’s ultraviolet protection factor, or UPF. The UPF factor indicates what fraction of the sun’s UVA and UVB radiation can penetrate the fabric and reach the skin. Clothing with a UPF of 50 will only allow 1/50th of the sun’s UV radiation to reach the skin. The UPF rating system is relatively new, so consumers in North America may not find UPF ratings listed on the labels of clothing they typically purchase from their favorite retailers. In addition, the sun protective clothing industry in North America is self-regulated, which means some, but not all, manufacturers’ claims regarding the safety of their clothing may be dubious. However, consumers concerned about the safety of the clothing they wear when spending time in the sun can speak with dermatologists about finding clothing manufacturers with strong reputations of producing sun protective clothing that can protect them from the sun’s UV rays. DO YOU HAVE CHRONIC HEEL PAIN?

TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.

Do you have Chronic Heel pain? Are you not getting better after 3 months of treatments? Surgery not an option or you just don't want surgery?

Non-Stop Acid Reflux? Look at Surgical Options

Then consider Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)!!! It’s non-invasive, no anesthesia required, non surgical!!! Virtually no complications with 85% success rate!! No disability and no time off from work! Very affordable, covered under certain insurances, financing available! Call now for a consultation and make the first step in finally relieving your heel pain!

---

DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a 78-year-old female who has suffered from acid reflux for many years and has been taking Prilosec (omeprazole) for at least 15 years. I have heard that it is not meant for longtime use. If I don’t take it, I have such heartburn I can’t sleep and am in misery all day and night. I recently attended a seminar on the new LINX surgery and hope to have it done. Do you have any information on the success of or problems after this surgery? -- J.B. ANSWER: The LINX device is a magnetic ring, placed by laparoscopic surgery, that helps increase the strength of the lower esophageal sphincter, the valvelike muscular structure at the junction of the esophagus and the stomach. This reduces reflux (backward movement) of stomach acid up into the esophagus. The procedure was very effective at reducing both heartburn symptoms (89% before procedure to 12% after) and the need for daily medicines like omeprazole (100% before to 15% after). The device has not been in use for a very long time, so long-term safety data is unavailable. Some people had to have the devices removed because they eroded into the esophagus, but only 0.3% of devices were removed at four years. There are other types of surgeries used to treat reflux, most of which are effective at reducing both symptoms and the need for medication. There are now options for treatment being done endoscopically (with an instrument placed through the mouth), without the need even for laparoscopic surgery (with the instrument being placed by small incisions through the skin). My personal practice is to discuss medication treatments as well as surgical treatments for people with moderate to severe acid reflux. Surgery in younger people may have more benefit by preventing a lifetime of daily medication. People who do not get relief with medication are those who most clearly benefit from these kinds of procedures. ***

We Care About

Your Smiles by Dr. Steve Sokolovskiy

COSMETIC DENTISTRY LEADING THE INDUSTRY IN GROWTH Cosmetic dentistry is the fastest growing niche in the dental industry. With today’s state-of-the-art technology, such as 3D printing and innovations in veneers, more patients than ever are investing in their smiles. Contributing factors to this recent trend include younger people getting enhancing implants, accessibility of quick and easy whitening procedures, highly durable porcelain veneers, high-tech ceramic restoration materials, and smilechanging gum contouring. Dentists employing digital dental software and 3D printing can now provide patients with realistic and tangible visuals of anticipated results, making it possible to see the dramatic difference these procedures can achieve. Many dental practices are now offering flexible financing options to make cosmetic treatment plans, often not covered by insurance, a more feasible and affordable investment.

When you look at yourself in the mirror, do you wish you liked your smile more? If so, why not make a change for the better? Teeth can be whitened, reshaped, replaced, veneered, or bonded, and their appearance improved by several methods of today’s cosmetic dentistry. In fact, it is truly amazing what can be accomplished in a short time that can enhance your appearance for the rest of your life. Georgie struck up a friendship via the game’s chat feature with frequent opponent Beth Legler from Missouri. One day, Georgie told Beth that Simon hadn’t been feeling well. Beth relayed his symptoms to her husband Larry, a doctor, who insisted that the Fletchers go to the hospital immediately. A 99% blockage was discovered near his heart, which, left untreated, would have certainly been fatal. * The process of things being stretched out and torn apart as they enter a black hole is called spaghettification. * Our senses of taste and smell are cut by 50% and 20%, respectively, during flights, which is why airplane food has never tasted so hot. (“That’s what I’ve been telling you!” said every airplane food chef, ever.) *** Thought for the Day: “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” -- Oliver Wendell Holmes GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

Embrace strategic landscaping. The landscaping outside of a home can contribute to cooler climates inside the home. Deciduous trees shed their leaves annually, and when planted on the western and southern sides of a home, these trees can block the sun from entering the home during the hottest times of day, reducing the need to lower the thermostat on air conditioners. Of course, when these trees shed their leaves in late fall, sunlight can then make its way into the home, potentially reducing heating costs.

SENIOR NEWS By Matilda Charles

We’ve Gotten Careless If you read the news, you know there are serious questions about how well the vaccines we’re been taking actually protect against COVID. Especially worrisome is the protection they offer against the Delta variant that’s sweeping the world. Those in authority seem to be flipping a coin each day, depending on who you listen to. Some days we can throw caution to the wind and go about our business, and other days we need to continue to beware. There’s talk of going back to the indoor mask mandates, and that’s likely one step away from again limiting the number of people allowed in stores at one time, or so I imagine. If those things happen, it won’t be like it was in March 2020. Back then we were all scared to death. We’d spread out in the grocery aisles, staying far away from other people. We wore that mask at all times when out and about, and we respected all those 6-foot markers on the floor. We certainly didn’t sit down at a restaurant table for four and take off our masks, or head to the gym. Now, having lived through that whole horrible year, people are tired of it all, and we’re eager for a normal life. We think that because so many people have had the vaccination, that surely we’ll be safe. I fear that this time, however, if the mask mandates come again, it will be even more dangerous than it was last year, because we’ve gotten too casual, careless and passive about our safety. My short to-do list involves buying new masks and more hand sanitizer, renewing my grocery curbside pickup account ... and saying no to an invitation to join a dance group. How about you? Are you ready for what’s likely coming? (c) 2021 King Features Synd., Inc.

LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE AFTER 50 (NAPSI)—For many people, navigating life and love as they get older can be challenging. Adjusting to change, seeking a new partner, or simply breaking out of a rut may feel overwhelming. In the hilarious hit comedy “Book Club,” four mature women in different circumstances discover that you’re never too old to enjoy life or pursue love. That’s a message author and newspaper columnist Tom Blake agrees with wholeheartedly. Blake has written more than 4,000 articles and newsletters on the topic and offers this advice, which is reflected in the movie: 1. Give love a chance in later years: Put yourself out there; everyone deserves love. 2. Don’t worry about what others think: Do what’s right for you. 3. Loosen up: Don’t be too set in your ways. 4. Change your routine: Be open to new experiences. 5. Don’t let your children make decisions for you: No one knows you better than you. 6. Have fun: Don’t stop living before you stop living! In “Book Club,” legendary actresses Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen star respectively as a widow, single, divorcée and long-married woman who hilariously shake up their lives by diving into the infamous book “Fifty Shades of Grey.” From discovering new romance to rekindling old flames, the lifelong friends inspire each other to make their next chapter the best chapter. “’Book Club’ has wonderful messages about never giving up on life or love no matter how old you are,” said Blake. “Good things can happen when you venture out and meet new people.” To liven up your life, check out “Book Club” on DVD, Blu-ray or iTunes and go to www.FindingLoveAfter50.com for more tips from Blake.

Receiving a diploma, is something to take seriously, even for those students who are somewhat older than their fellow graduates. HOW TO KEEP CHICKEN FROM STICKING TO YOUR GRILL

CHECK OUR FACEBOOK PAGE FOR HOURS!

According to the grill manufacturer Weber, the keys to grilling chicken are temperature and time. But even cooks who have paid close attention to the temperature of their grills and the time their chicken spends over a hot flame have no doubt fallen victim to chicken that sticks to the grill. This can affect the quality of a meal and make post-grilling cleanup that much more difficult. To prevent sticking, Weber advises cooks to put a light coating of olive oil and seasoning directly on the chicken prior to putting it on the grill. Once the chicken has been dressed, make sure the grill temperature remains around 425 F to 450 F. Chicken will stick to a grill if the temperature is too high, so pay close attention to the temperature at all times. Once the chicken has been placed on the grill, allow each side to cook for roughly 4.5 minutes. If the chicken is difficult to flip or remove from the grill, close the lid and allow it to cook for one additional minute.

Five billion pizzas are sold worldwide each year, and the United States accounts for three billion of those pizzas. The average person will eat 46 slices of pizza each year. Esposito created the pizza for Italy’s Queen Margherita when she visited Naples in 1889. Caledonia Community Embraces New Little Pantry BY AMANDA DUDEK

A

new resource has come to Caledonia next to the Angry Rooster Deli on State Street. This resource, a Community Pantry filled with food and toiletries, was set up a little over a month ago by Helen Serafine, owner of the Angry Rooster. She says, however, that it‚ is really the Caledonia community that inspired it and makes it work. “Customers who had seen these little pantries in other towns and Rochester neighborhoods would come in, and they told me about them,” said Helen. “I knew there was a need, and these customers put a bug in my ear!” Helen decided to take action. She ordered a large outdoor cupboard for the Community Pantry and shared her plans with the community. Even so, she was unprepared for the enthusiasm with which her Caledonia neighbors Kathryn Mailloux (l) and Helen Serafine (r) embraced the idea. stand next to Caledonia’s new 24/7 “I posted that the Community Pantry! pantry had arrived, and it had only been up about an hour when Bill Weiss came over, installed its shelf, and secured it to the building,” Helen shared. “It was full then, and it has been full ever since it opened.” The Community Pantry’s constantly full state is another evidence of community generosity, according to Helen. “They have rallied around it 100%,” she says. “It refills every day. There are people in this town who are incredible and would do anything for others. Almost daily, I see people park out front and go to the pantry with bags of donations.” One supporter Sometimes you forget found her own unique the needs because they way to support the cause. “One friend loves aren’t so visible. indoor plants,” recalls - Helen Serafine Helen. “So, she takes tiny succulents and replants them in small pots. She brings up to 50 of them in at a time and asks people to take one and donate to the pantry!” While Helen is thrilled by the Community Pantry, she is surprised at how busy it has been. “I cannot believe the degree of need,” she says. “We are seeing items go like toiletries and even baby food, which breaks my heart. Sometimes you forget the needs because they aren’t so visible.” The Community Pantry is open 24/7, something Helen said she learned from the coat tree giveaway she did last year. “We covered a tree out front in coats so that anyone who needed one could just take one,” she explains. “When we came back each morning, several would be gone, so we realized people were coming when we weren’t here. We want people to be able to do that with the Community Pantry, too.” And it’s working. The Community Pantry is the talk of the town, a

wellspring of generosity and gratitude. “One woman shared with me that she was able to have Progresso soup from the Community Pantry and that she was never able to afford that soup,” shares Helen. “Our community is unbelievably generous.” Those wishing to donate to the Community Pantry can donate non-perishable items any time. Fresh vegetables and eggs may be donated on Saturdays. “If the pantry is full, people can leave items here at the deli or next to the pantry, and we will restock it,” says Helen. “We check it every morning.” As for why she hosts the Community Pantry, Helen thinks of her family. “I’m reminded of when I was raising my two boys, and there were times we would struggle,” she says. “If one of my boys were in need today, I hope someone would help them, too.” Helen invites anyone in need to visit the Community Pantry at its discreet, off street location. “Stop by! There are bags in the bottom, or you can bring your own, and take whatever is needed. We just ask that you keep in mind that there is always someone in need behind you. That is all; just think of the person behind you.” Helen plans to continue the Thanks to community generosity, Community Pantry Community Pantry shelves stay full! into the foreseeable future. This winter, she also hopes to bring back the giving tree of winter coats and the giving bench with winter hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves. “Last year, the crabapple tree was hung with coats of every kind for every age. It was very colorful and looked really neat. We gave away over 150 coats!” she exclaims. “We also had a woman in town make and donate all of the mittens, scarves, and hats. We hope to give those items again also.”

ATTENTION FARMERS IN LIVINGSTON COUNTY

The Livingston County Board of Supervisors has designated the month of September as the thirty-day period for submission of petitions by landowners for inclusion of land that is highly suitable for a commercial farm operation into an existing Agricultural District. If you would like to have your land included in an existing Agricultural District, please submit your written request, along with the tax map identification number and a description of the farming activities on the land, to the Livingston County Planning Department, 6 Court Street – Room 305, Geneseo, NY, 14454 by September 30, 2021.

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?…” ~ Bible, New Testament

Until Jesus’ resurrection, life’s goal seemed to be only a grave. We lived, we died, then we were buried. Christians believe that Jesus went through this sequence also, but with one magnificent difference… He arose from the dead! By thus depriving the grave of its victory, Jesus assured us that we, too, need not merely die. We can have everlasting life after death. It is this promise that gives significance to Easter and makes bereavement more endurable for us all. Easter is a happy time! We hope that you and your family will worship God in the Church of your choice, and have your lives enriched.

Petitions cannot be accepted for removal of parcels from an Agricultural District. Questions can be directed to the County Planning Department at (585) 243-7550 or (585) 335-1734.

STRANGE BUT TRUE By Lucie Winborne * Irish author and politician Edmund Burke was not a skilled public speaker. In fact, his speeches at the House of Commons were so boring, many MPs left the building once he stood up. * While Jackie Robinson was laid up for two weeks in 1948 with a hamstring injury, the Dodgers secretly replaced him with Herschel Morowitz, a white man in black face. * Drinking seawater will cause rapid dehydration and, if enough is consumed, eventually death. Frozen seawater is a much safer alternative, since it contains only a tenth as much salt as the liquid form, due to the fact that the salt is separated from the water when freezing as it does not fit into the crystalline structure of ice.
