Hi Everyone. I’m Smokin’ Joe. I’m a 20-yearold, 1500 lb. half Percheron/half Friesian draft horse. I live in my Mom’s back yard in a nice barn and paddock with my brother from another mother, Mr. G. I spend a lot of my time thinking about my next meal—sometimes while I’m eating the one that’s right in front of me! I also hang out with my bro, cavorting, daydreaming and taking the occasional standing power nap. Mr. G and I both think we have the good life because our Mom sometimes gives us treats for NO REASON! Ahhh!

HOW TO COMBAT FOUR PET PEEVES AROUND THE HOUSE (NAPSI)—If your family is like most, there are a few things about your home that really annoy you. Fortunately, ingenious solutions are available for four of the most common pet peeves when it comes to lighting and electronics:

Send us a photo and brief write-up of your pet and we’ll feature it. Email to: sales@gvpennysaver.com or mail to: P.O. Box 340; Avon, 14414. Pets will be published at discretion of GVPS.

1. Never Enough Outlets: The average family charges up to 12 devices a day. With connectivity more prevalent than ever, the demand for convenient charging options is at an all-time high. The adorne Pop-Out Outlet from Legrand features three standard receptacles for added power and can disappear into the wall when not in use. Plus, its tamper-resistant plugs will keep children safe. Now you can simultaneously charge phones, tablets and laptops with an outlet made to maximize charging needs. 2. Lights Carelessly Being Left On: Constantly reminding people to turn off the bedroom lights? You can install motion sensors that automatically turn lights on when someone enters the room and shut lights off when the room is no longer occupied. 3. Phone Charger Mysteriously Disappearing: Scouring your home for a phone charger can be a thing of the past when you replace standard outlets with an instant, cord- and clutter-free way to charge phones, such as the new-to-market Wireless Charger from the radiant Collection. 4. Lack of Light at Night: Make the walk to the bathroom or the nursery at night a little brighter by installing night lights in hallways, kitchens and children’s rooms. Some night lights even offer adjustable light levels or can convert to flashlights.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT GREYHOUNDS Some retired racing greyhounds may exhibit behaviors typical of puppies. The Greyhound Project notes that, thanks to their early training, retired racing greyhounds have never been without the company of other greyhounds. As a result, when spending time alone for the first time in their lives, retired greyhounds may make up for lost time as a puppy by exhibiting puppy-like behaviors such as chewing. This need not cause alarm in new greyhound parents, as the dogs typically outgrow the behavior very quickly.

Two attractive solutions can be found in the radiant and adorne Collections by Legrand. For a home with more traditional aesthetics, the radiant Collection offers a Night Light with Two Tamper-Resistant Outlets. It features five adjustable light levels and an optional louver for additional light-level control. For a more modern and design-savvy look, there’s the one from the adorne Collection. It provides a soft glow and with ambient light level sensors, so it’s visible only in dark spaces. A few simple switches around the house can help you have more control over your home’s lights and electronics. While you’re improving your place, you may care to consider adorne appbased lighting control options, designed to provide solutions that offer whole-house control with the touch of a button. Homeowners who have both Legrand smart lighting systems and Voice Control−enabled devices from Google or Amazon can now power and dim lights simply by saying phrases like “OK, Google, turn on the porch lights” and “Alexa, dim the living room to 50 percent” without needing to reach for a phone, tablet, or light switch. COLD W EATHER W ILDLIFE IN HOM ES BOOSTS DISEASE AND PROPERTY DAM AGE RISKS M any people may practice the “ love thy neighbor” creed, but w hen it comes to four-legged w ildlife su ch as raccoons, squirrels, and opossum that often seek refuge in yards and homes w hen outdoor temperatures dip and food sources become scarce, they are best kept at an arm’s length. As community development has thin ned natural habitats and forced these critters into residential areas and lessened their fears of people , the National Pest M anagement Association (NPM A) has found that many areas of the country continue to report incre ased encounters w ith nuisance w ildlife. “ W hile it can be a unique experience to spot w ildlife in neighborhoods, these animals should be disc ouraged from taking up residence,” advises M issy Henriksen, vice president of public affairs for the NPM A. “ Not only can they damage property, many are vectors of disease, most notably rabies.” According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 40,000 people are exposed t o rabies each year, a viral infection passed through the bite and saliva of an infected mammal. Raccoons, fox es, skunks, coyotes and bats are the most commonly reported animals infected w ith rabies. Because of the risks a ssociated w ith these pests, homeow ners should take extra precautions to protect against them. GVPENNYSAVER.COM 1-866-812-8111

BIG IDEAS FOR BUSINESSES OF ALL SIZES

248-5372

(NAPSI)—If you own or run a business, you’re not alone. There are some 30 million businesses in the U.S., ranging from small storefronts to large enterprise entities, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. While businesses of all sizes play a critical role in the economy, each workplace faces its own unique challenges, especially as it relates to growth and scalability.

Bushnell’s Basin

With company and workforce growth comes changing telecommunication needs. You might need to hire staff in new areas or cater to mobile millennials. Employees often expect their employers to provide them with flexible communication tools. Most business professionals want multiple connectivity options from their business phone solution, according to recent research from leading tech firm IDG. If you’re like most managers, you desire top-of-the-line technology that can help drive operational efficiencies and cater to your growth projections. Growing a business can be expensive but you shouldn’t have to miss out on communications solutions that can empower your workforce and spur continued growth. When you’re looking at your telecommunication needs, keep these important factors in mind.

• Chicken Tenders A Tradition For 70 Years!

GREEN WAYS TO CLEAN UP SNOW Although residents of chilly climates come to expect the flakes and gathering snow mounds, some people never quite get used to the cleanup involved in keeping neighborhoods safe and accessible. In M arch 2014, North America w as covered by the third-highest amount of snow that late in the season since record keeping began in 1966, according to NOAA’s U.S. National Ice Center. Snow can begin in September and October in some northern areas and stretch on until early spring. It pays to learn the best w ays to deal w ith snow and to incorporate some environmentally friendly strategies as w ell. The most eco-friendly w ay to remove snow is to w ait until the spring thaw w hen it’ll melt. Unfortunately that is not practical for most people. Therefore homeow ners and business ow ners need to look to other methods to clear drivew ays, parking lots and sidew alks of the w hite stuff.

First, consider durable, affordable Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) deskset phones, which can manage Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls. Moving your telecommunications to the cloud can expand your phone system while maintaining central control. Cloud-based VoIP scales up or down, making it easy to add new locations or increase head count. SIP can also improve your business if you’re upgrading from an Ethernet jack or a traditional circuit transmission. This technology provides clear audio and reduces the need for costly installation and maintenance contracts. Some SIP desksets offer excellent user experience. Think color LCD screens for easy navigation, second screen displays with programmable keys, HD sound quality for natural conversations, and Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free headset calls. Secondly, take an introspective look at what’s truly needed from a communications perspective of your business. Evaluate what your operational landscape looks like. You may require full-featured desksets and handsets, which can hold, transfer, conference and intercom. Or you may need cordless solutions to dramatically improve mobility around a busy workplace. Cordless handsets and wireless headsets let people take calls as they move around a restaurant, warehouse or large office, for example. Also consider whether you’ll need the ability to expand your communications system as your business grows. You may find multiple cordless handsets or desksets, with their own phone numbers or extensions, essential to future-proofing your company for more employees and customers. Remember, the right communications tools can have a major effect on the productivity, experience and growth of your company. Select a phone solution that meets your unique needs, as well as one with flexibility, mobility features, dependable call quality, advanced call handling, reliable U.S.-based technical support, and warranty coverage. Good examples of these solutions include the new ErisTerminal SIP desksets and cordless mobility solutions from VTech Business Solutions. 90-Pound Chemo Patient Should Stop Fasting ---

DEAR DR. ROACH: My daughter-in-law has stage 1 breast

GO GREEN WITH YOUR FITNESS ROUTINE Walk, run or ride to the gym. Many people get the bulk, if not the entirety, of their exercise at a gym. For those who live outside of major cities, that likely involves driving to and from a gym before and after workouts. Instead of driving, consider walking, running or riding to the gym. Each option provides great cardiovascular exercise that can reduce or replace the time people spend on treadmills or elliptical machines. And cutting back on driving reduces fuel consumption and auto emissions, greatly benefitting the planet.

cancer and has just started her chemotherapy. I am concerned about her decision to fast for two days before and one day after each treatment. She weighs only 90 pounds, and fasting while you are trying to fight cancer does not sound like a good idea. What is your opinion of fasting during chemotherapy? -- K.B. ANSWER: In theory, fasting may make cancer cells more susceptible to chemotherapy, and there have been studies in mice suggesting this approach might have value. However, during chemotherapy, the whole body needs good-quality nutrition, and I could not recommend fasting for someone who weighs so little, nor could I recommend two full days of fasting before chemotherapy. Until there is clear evidence that intermittent fasting is of benefit, I don’t recommend it. Your daughter-in-law, in particular, is not a good candidate, being so very thin (assuming she is of near-normal height).

you knew anything about the effect of Advil on men with enlarged prostates. It seemed that ibuprofen decreased his trips to the bathroom. I have found the same thing myself. Taking two Advil allows me to wait five to six hours before having to urinate. Has there been more research on why this happens? -- S.Z. ANSWER: There is some more information. Men with symptoms of enlarged prostate often have increased urinary frequency, combined with incomplete emptying. This makes sense; if you can’t empty your entire bladder, you will have to empty it more frequently. So it seems the ibuprofen is letting you empty the bladder more completely. There are two major reasons for incomplete emptying, and different theories for why ibuprofen might work on each. Benign (not cancerous) enlargement of the prostate is one reason. In this case, it is hypothesized that ibuprofen stops the growth of cells in the prostate, but the exact mechanism isn’t clear. Reducing the size of the prostate can allow better, more complete urine flow. The other common cause of the prostate symptoms is inflammation of the prostate. In this case, ibuprofen’s anti-inflammatory effect reducing symptoms is easier to understand. The fact that it works so quickly for you suggests that the anti-inflammatory effect is more important in your case. Ibuprofen does have possible side effects, but two ibuprofen once a day is unlikely to cause significant problems. ***

DEAR DR. ROACH: My teen likes vegetables and eats right. He also drinks a lot of water, works out and doesn’t like soda. He and my sister have chronic constipation. They both now take a magnesium supplement and feel great. Is that OK? -- T.M.S. ANSWER: Magnesium is a common and safe treatment for constipation. A healthy diet, exercise and drinking plenty of water are good ideas for anyone with constipation, but some people do need additional help. I have previously mentioned prunes (or prune juice) as an option, but magnesium, if taken at a dose to ensure regular but not excessive bowel movements, is a fine treatment. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. A Look Back… MOMENTS IN TIME The History Channel

"Let food be thy medicine"

is a quote attributed to Hippocrates, the ancient scholar considered to be the father of modern medicine. The saying relates to the notion that what people put in their bodies can heal and/or prevent certain conditions. For seniors with medicine cabinets full of over-the-counter and prescription medications, the idea of relying predominantly on food to promote optimal health may be tempting, and various foods can be particularly useful to the 50-and-over demographic. According to the World Health Organization, poor diet is a major contributor to many of the diseases that affect older people. Poor diet has been connected to the development of diabetes, and degenerative diseases such as osteoporosis also may be linked to the foods ones eat. The National Council for Aging Care says micronutrient deficiency is often a problem among the aging due to factors like lack of variety in diet and reduced food intake. Eating a variety of foods can provide all of the nutrients people need to stay healthy as they get older. Certain foods may be particularly helpful. · Brain-friendly foods: Foods such as avocado, leafy vegetables, sunflower seeds, blueberries, and salmon are good sources of vitamin E, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and other nutrients that may help ward off dementias like Alzheimer's disease, advises Sonas Home Health Care. · Anti-inflammatory foods: Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids may help prevent inflammation that can cause cancer and rheumatoid arthritis. Aging.com says foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, like salmon, should be consumed at least twice per week. · Fruits and vegetables: Fresh, canned or frozen produce tend to be high in micronutrients, including a variety of important vitamins that are essential for all components of health. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics advises eating dark green vegetables, such as leafy greens or broccoli, and orange vegetables, such as carrots and sweet potatoes. · Energy-boosters: Choose whole grains that can provide sustained energy by way of healthy carbohydrates over processed grains. · Bone-friendly foods: Calcium-rich foods, such as milk, yogurt and cheese, can prevent calcium from being leached from the bones, which contributes to conditions like osteoporosis. · Digestive system-friendly foods: The digestive system slows down as the body ages, as the walls of the gastrointestinal tract thicken and digestive contractions that push waste along may slow down and become fewer. Foods rich in fiber can promote proper digestion by moving food through the digestive tract mor easily. High-fiber foods also may help naturally reduce blood cholesterol levels. · High-iron foods: Without enough iron in the body, a person may feel tired and lethargic from a reduced production of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in the blood from the lungs to the rest of the body. A lack of oxygen in body tissues from anemia can be serious, says the National Council for Aging Care. Tofu, spinach, lentils, pumpkin seeds, and fortified breads and cereals are high in iron. Smart food choices can help seniors live long and healthy lives. LP203730 GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

* On Feb. 22, 1732, George Washington is born in Westmoreland County, Virginia. As leader of the Continental Army in the American Revolution, his success was due in part to his shrewd use of the “ungentlemanly,” but effective, tactic of guerrilla warfare against British armies used to close-formation battle-line warfare. * On Feb. 19, 1878, the technology that made possible the modern music business comes into existence in a New Jersey laboratory as Thomas Edison creates the first device to both record sound and play it back: the phonograph. * On Feb. 18, 1885, Mark Twain publishes his famous -- and famously controversial -- novel “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Twain first introduced Huck Finn as the best friend of Tom Sawyer, hero of his novel “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” (1876).

BEST BUYS FOR THE NEW YEAR Video games: Those w ho haven’t purchased their fill of video games for the holidays can benefit from post-holiday drops in price.

HOROSCOPE ARIES (March 21 to April 19) All that flattery and fawning shouldn’t affect any decision you have to make. Keep your focus on the facts and ignore all the hyperbole, especially if it gets uncomfortably personal. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Your Bovine instincts are on the mark about that “favor” you’re being asked to do. Agree to nothing unless you get a full explanation -- which you would check out first, of course. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) A somewhat unsettled recent period should give way to a smoother time going through the week. Use this quieter time to catch up on matters you might have had to let slide. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Feeling a little confused is understandable with all those mixed messages. Take time to list the questions you have. Then present them and insist on answers that make sense. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Cupid can be very helpful for Lions seeking a love connection. The chubby cherub also brings warm and fuzzy feelings to paired Leos and Leonas who already share a special love line. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Travel is favored this week, whether you’ll be globetrotting or taking a trip to a nearby getaway. You might be surprised (or maybe not) by who wants to be your traveling companion. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Getting advice on your next business-related move is a good idea, but only if your advisers are trustworthy. Get references that you can check out before you make any decisions. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Getting a boost in your self-esteem is one benefit that comes with a job well done. There are other plusses as well, including being noticed by all the right people. Good luck. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Make time to deal with family matters, especially where they concern your elderly kinfolk. Being there for them from the start can help resolve problems sooner rather than later. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Getting a project started can often be difficult. But the good news is that you won’t want for lack of assistance from colleagues who would like to work with you. So, let them! AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) A lot of work-related issues might be raised this week, and you need to be prepared for whatever comes along. Things should be easier when it comes to matters in your private life. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) What might appear to be a much unwanted change in your life right now could turn out to be a very welcome event after all. Give yourself a chance to see where it might take you. BORN THIS WEEK: You exercise your strong leadership qualities well, which is why people believe in you and feel reassured by you. TIPS FOR EASY SNOW REMOVAL

Tree & Landscape Service

(NAPSI)—It’s the heart of winter, which means plenty of snow removal is in your future. Poorly maintained equipment and using the wrong clearing techniques can make shoveling or blowing your driveway and walkways a chore. Follow the tips below to make snow removal as easy as possible.

• Full Service Arborists • Tree/shrub/stump removal • Corrective pruning

533-9307 Insured. Call for free estimate. Since 1970

Start Early and Shovel Often It’s easier to shovel an inch or two of fresh snow than half a foot of snow that’s densely packed. Shovel first thing in the morning and, if it continues to snow, go out every couple of hours to clear a few inches at various points throughout the day.

Maintain Your Equipment If you didn’t perform maintenance on your snowblower before the winter season, it’s not too late. On gasoline-powered machines, check the oil level before each use. Inspect and change damaged or worn spark plugs, belts and shave plates. On all snowblowers, be sure to maintain proper tire pressure. After you’ve finished for the day, run the machine for a minute or so to clear out snow.

Shovel the Right Way Shoveling to remove snow can be hard work, so protect your body and make the job a bit easier by pushing the snow instead of lifting it. To prevent aches and pains, keep your feet hip-width apart, bend your knees, keep your back straight and avoid twisting your torso if you must lift the snow. Finally, spray WD-40 Multi-Use Product on the shovel blade to prevent snow from sticking to it for easier transfer of snow from sidewalks and driveways. Learn about more uses for WD-40 Multi-Use Product around the home and find it at a store near you at WD40.com.

LEARNING GOLF CAN BE GOOD FOR YOUR CAREER (NAPSI)—Many women, looking to advance in their careers, have found the grass is always greener—on the golf course. As golf remains an important piece of business culture, it is important to empower women to feel confident on the course. Just knowing the basics of the game could encourage participation in key business decisions taking place on the course every day. Why Play Golf Consider these stats and facts from the Professional Golfers Association: • Executives who play golf make 17 percent more than those who don’t. • 54 percent of business professionals see golf as the perfect networking tool. • An estimated 90 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs play golf. • Sandra Day O’Connor, Cameron Diaz, Vera Wang, Celine Dion and Condoleezza Rice are all avid golfers. • Golf challenges women to go beyond their comfort zone for personal enrichment and a feeling of accomplishment and confidence. • Playing golf with someone gives you insights into his or her integrity, sportsmanship and personality. Empowering Women to Learn Golf: Lexus Teams Up With the MGA The best way to learn the game is in a supportive stress-free environment, such as a local clinic. Lexus recently hosted clinics throughout the tristate area with the Metropolitan Golf Association to help women gain the basic skills needed to get on the course. (Keep an eye out next season because they plan to host more in spring 2019.) It is important to look for clinics like the Lexus “Introduction to Golf” events that start simple and focus on basics like putting and chipping. You’ll also want an intimate clinic, so you get the one-on-one attention you need as a beginner. If a local pro will be there to speak to the group, even better! It’s great to gain inspiration from those who live and breathe the game. Golf experts such as former LPGA Tour player Tara Fleming; Liz Caron, a member of the winning 2004 U.S. Curtis Cup Team; and Kyla Basso, a highly talented amateur golfer, were present at the Lexus-hosted clinics. Among their advice: 1. Don’t let yourself be intimidated when you step onto the course with clients or colleagues—you’ll do better if you remain confident and calm. 2. Allow yourself time to become familiar with the sport. 3. Don’t expect to be a pro from day one. With a little practice and hard work, you’ll be reaping the benefits of golf in no time!

FLU-FIGHTING TIPS: Food can be used to fend of the flu. Common foods that many people already have in their pantries can be powerful flu-fighters. Garlic, for example, contains compounds that have direct antiviral effects and may help destroy the flu before it affects the body. Raw garlic is best. In addition to garlic, citrus fruits, ginger, yogurt, and dark leafy greens can boost immunity and fight the flu, according to Mother Nature’s Network. The British Journal of Nutrition notes that dark chocolate supports T-helper cells, which increase the immune system’s ability to defend against infection.

Tinker Nature Park: Historian, Soldier, Spy By Marlene Caroselli

I

f the Tinker Nature Park were a person, it would have more characters than John LeCarre’s famous spy novel of a similar name. In addition to trails to be walked and Civil War history that was once re-enacted on part of its 300 acres, the Nature Park offers events and outings good for the body, the mind and the soul. Tinker - The Tinker Family arrived in this area in 1812 and settled on 40 acres in what was then the Town of Pittsford. Henrietta became its own town in 1818. James and Rebecca Tinker came from Connecticut and brought with them six children, eventually having two more. Following the opening of the Erie Canal, the farm eventually grew to over 300 acres, and the family prospered. In 1828, work was started on the Cobblestone house, which was finished in 1830. Six generations of the Tinker Family lived in the Cobblestone home until the donation of the park and the acquisition of the home by the Town of Henrietta. The Tinker Homestead opened as a historic house museum in 1994. The Hansen Nature Center, where classes are held, was made possible through a donation from local businessman and Henrietta resident Henry Hansen. It opened in 1995 and thanks to his generosity once again, expanded to open the exhibit area in 1998. Nearly five hundred years ago, Shakespeare acknowledged that “one touch of nature makes the whole world kin.” You’ll feel that inclusion, that kinship, as you view the seasonal nature exhibits at the Hansen Nature Center. Two of the most popular are the indoor honeybee hive and the rescued birds: Pudge, Lola and Felix. Open year-round, the Center’s classroom holds seasonal programming with topics that include gardening, beekeeping, yoga, local wildlife, and more.

species throughout the seasons based on sight, their calls, and other signs they leave behind. Community Enricher - Another persona residing at Tinker is the non-profit group The Friends of Tinker Nature Park. They co-sponsor community events with the Town of Henrietta. All events are free and open to the public. In addition, Tinker Nature Park hosts several special events including Wild Tinker, the Earth Day and Arbor Day Celebration, the Honey Harvest Festival, and the very popular summer Art and Garden Party! Currently the event schedule stretches from February to December with breaks only in November and March, depending on Easter’s date.

Marlene Caroselli, whose 63rd book, Driving Mr. Albert: 365 Einstein - Inspired Brain Boosts, will be published this year.

Patron of the Arts - The Art & Garden Party, which will be held on June 27th of this year, will create an immersive art exposition using pieces from local artists. The artwork will be found by amateur spies among the existing displays of the house. The curator-character of yet another Tinker persona intermingles large and small pieces to show visitors the rooms of the house and to encourage them to search for the artwork. Pieces that had been in the house’s collection for years have been given new context, and many visitors are now aware of details in the hearths, desks, and small accessories that previously went unnoticed. Historian & Agricultural Archivist Another metaphoric personality residing at Tinker is the Farm Museum, which charts the growth of agriculture in Western New York from subsistence to commercial farming. Visitors step back into history and learn how the Erie Canal forever changed the face of farming in New York State. The museum has an extensive collection of farm implements that reflects the modernization of farming through the years.

Trailer - “Trailer” is sometimes used as a verb, meaning to transport something. You’ll likely find your soul transported by the 3/4 mile nature trail that the Tinker Nature Park offers visitors. The 1/2-mile perimeter trail includes fitness and exercise stations with instructional signage. After all, it’s been said that “to walk in nature is to witness a thousand miracles.” Soldier - For fifteen years, starting in 2003, Civil War reenactments were held at the Nature Center to bring more awareness to the house museum. The reenactments were replaced by the Wild Tinker Program. Wild Tinker provides live animal presentations throughout the day, including featured creatures from the Seneca Park Zoo, Wild Wings, and the Hawk Creek Bald Eagle program. Spy - Even an amateur sleuth will be able to spy any number of activities to enjoy. Guided tours will take you through the fields, marshes, forests, and across the pond to explore and learn. For those who believe, as Tinker-ites do, that “we are guests in plant and wildlife communities,” the Nature Center preserves those communities so this and future generations may enjoy them. You’ll learn about plants, animals, and other organisms of the habitats as well as identify different

Memory Keeper - Families interested in memorializing those who have passed can purchase memorial bricks on the Tinker property. This Tinker gesture places the bricks on the sidewalk leading to the labyrinth, which was built in memory of David Dimeo, a Boy Scout leader. Tinker Nature Center and all the metaphorical personages who represent it are truly a manysplendored rainbow of good fortune. Enjoy this article? On February 1st my husband fell trying to get up our front steps. My cousin and I were unable to get him up on his feet. A car pulled in our driveway and a young couple hurried over to help us. The young man and my cousin were able to get him in our house. Thank You Lucas and Jodi, you are our heroes! Carol & Jerry

Wow! Seems to me that you should look for another type of job! Seriously! I’m 66 years young, and at times, I do assist the cashier in loading my grocery bags into my cart. This is optional. I am a caring person who has worked in retail as a cashier, etc., but in no way is it something that should be demanded. Next, would you like for your customers to ring up their own orders (that’s what self-check outs are for) and bag their own groceries while on your line? After spending money for groceries, the least we, as customers, can expect is to have a cashier bag them and put them in our cart! You’re getting paid to do that; I’m not! I don’t want to go to your line, that’s for sure. Wish I knew where you worked! Get another job. I live in a small town, and GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

A big thank you to a good citizen who noticed something and said something, and to the RG&E response team for averting a potential tragedy in my neighborhood. On January 29th, an early morning jogger smelled natural gas on Wheatstone Circle in Fairport. Fortunately, he took the time from his run to report this to authorities. By 7:00 a.m., Rochester Gas and Electric responded and determined that there was, indeed, a leak in the gas line in my front yard. The RG&E team went to work immediately. They spent most of the nasty winter day locating the faulty gas line and replacing it. It unnerves me to think what might have happened. Instead, our neighborhood

was blessed.

close to me, there is a dog that is put out every day early in the mornings before light and during day hours too, barking constantly at nothing. I believe it has anxiety issues or its owners don’t take the time to train it. I like dogs; they are all around me, but this one is the only one that barks nonstop. Have some respect for your neighbors who have children who go to school and some people who work late night hours. For the respect of your neighbors, take the time to train your dog! Enough is enough. People with constantly barking dogs can get a fine of up to 250 bucks. I’ve done my research! If you’re home all day and leave that dog out to bark, then you have time to train it!

blame on the daughter-in-law and not the son she raised. Why is she not having this conversation with her son? He is the one who should be making these choices and insisting on including his parents in family events. Maybe it’s time for him to put on his big boy pants and act like a considerate adult. What does it say about the way he was raised if he does not have consideration for his parents? This is not a one-way street. If you want this to change, then your son is the one you should be speaking to.

I had to respond to “Attention Daughterin-law.” She puts all the

I just wanted to give a quick shout out to my neighbor, Rich. His business is next to mine and for the last two years whenever it snows, he has shoveled our front walkway. It’s good to know that such considerate people still exist! Thank you for your thoughtfulness and keeping our sidewalks safe. Thursday morning, as I was walking to open our Main Street office for business, I slipped on the black ice and fell. If it wasn’t for Canandaigua City Worker, Kyle, I might have been one with the ground for a while. Thanks, Kyle, for the help and for clearing away the snow and ice. Stop into LVOY anytime, the coffee’s always on.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to an unknown Walmart Superhero! I have never had this happen to me or even someone close to me before, but right before the big game on Sunday, a knight in shining armor paid for our groceries! We were struggling to just have a small set up of snacks and drinks for a few close friends, and this Walmart Superhero made it possible! Of course, I had to ask what team he was rooting for, and in turn, we cheered on Kansas City in his honor! In light of his act of kindness, Kansas City won! Rest assured if I am ever in a position to pay it forward by an act of kindness for someone else, I will surely do so!
