The sun is out, and the open air is calling. Are your outdoor concrete spaces ready? Whether you have a concrete garage, porch, pao, walkway, or all of the above, it’s me to get entertainment ready. Has your concrete started cracking or peeling? Are you frustrated with epoxy coangs which must frequently be replaced due to damage? Local, family-owned and operated Apollo Concrete Coangs can transform your damaged or lackluster concrete into an eye-catching feature with a strong, aracve polyurea-polyasparc topcoat. In just one day, your concrete can go from vulnerable, cold, and dull to durable, vibrant, and excing!
What is Polyurea-Polyasparc Coang? Polyurea-polyasparc material is an impenetrable defense against the elements. Concrete is an unfinished, porous material that will wear and crack if le untreated. Unlike epoxies which simply sit on top of concrete, polyurea-polyasparc bonds with concrete and cures it, using the moisture content of the concrete to “grow roots” beyond the surface. Thanks to this bond, polyurea-polyasparc does not peel, blister or fade like epoxy and DIY coangs.
“Our process uses the Penntek Coang System, a recognized leader in innovave concrete sealers and coangs. The Penntek Coang System offers the highest standards in performance and longevity, providing you with the highest quality concrete floor repair,” says Apollo Concrete owner, Russell Bickert Jr. The latest Polyurea-Polyasparc product features low odor and even more durability! Quickly drying and curing, a surface is completely ready-to-use aer only 24 hours! With an Apollo surface, your outdoor spring cleaning and post-party cleanup become a breeze! Simply spray the surface down with a hose for surfaces that look like new and are ready for warm weather enjoyment. In fact, the product is so resilient, it comes with a 15-year warranty. This industrial product is making quite a splash both in the commercial and residenal markets with its rubberized finish and highly durable surface. With its high quality and variety of colors, polyurea-polyasparc coangs are ideal for concrete garage floors, basement floors, paos, porches, and even pool decks. Add an addional layer of safety to your pool this summer with Apollo’s an-slip element. Apollo Concrete Coangs is pleased to offer coangs specifically enhanced for pool decks. Our an-slip element, added directly to the Penntek Coang System topcoat, provides you with an extra level of safety and security.

O N E DAY G A R A G E F LO O R S Apollo Concrete Coangs Answers Your Flooring Quesons! Are Apollo floors easy to clean? Yes! It is smooth and abrasion resistant. It is an industrial product. If you get something like oil or most chemicals on its surface, you can simply wash it off with ease. ... What if my concrete floor has cracks? Don’t worry! We are often able to make repairs to concrete floors to create a smooth surface before putting the coating on. You usually will not need to replace your concrete floor first, saving you money! Russ Bickert, Joy Bickert, Kae Brand, Kortney Glendenning, Carl Szydlowski, Ma Prieur
A Local Family Business Originally established as a drywall business, family-owned and operated Apollo Concrete Coangs was founded by owner Russell Bickert Jr.’s father in 1976 and has been serving Western New York for 45 years. In 2002, Apollo established its successful painng division. Aer adding its Apollo Concrete Coangs division in 2004, Russell Bickert Jr. took over leadership of Apollo when his father rered in 2008 and the company moved away from drywall and painng, ulmately transioning completely to the superior Penntek polyurea-polyasparc in 2014. Now, Apollo completes several hundred floors each year. “Our long history in the area also means we are well aware that a WNY concrete floor must be constructed to sustain the salt exposure present in the extreme winter weather and must also contain UV protecon for the summer months. In addion, it should be chemically resistant, stain-resistant, and made of an-slip materials,” Says Russ. Schedule your outdoor coang applicaon today as we are already booking quickly and fall weather condions may put an early end to our season.
... Is salt a concern? Once you have locked in your concrete with our coating, it is not going to deteriorate anymore. Salt does not affect the polyaspartic topcoat and will just sit on the surface until you wash it away. ... What about epoxy coangs? An epoxy coating may be a little less expensive, but they do not last long, take longer to install, and become brittle and peel over time. Polyurea-polyaspartic is four times the strength of epoxy and lasts a lot longer due to its adhesion rates and its durability through New York freezes and thaws as well as the variations in our hydrostatic table. It also does not yellow. We combine superior Penntek products with proper preparation and close attention to quality.
Photo Worthy Results! Customers are loving their new Apollo floors! Joy Bickert, Bickert’s wife, Office Manager at Apollo, says that people are posng photos of their new Apollo floors with capons like “What a difference a day makes!” Apollo Concrete Coangs add an aracve style element to your outdoor space and can be color coordinated to match your unique aesthec choices. Durable Penntek polyurea-polyasparc coangs come in 30 standard color opons with the ability to create custom color combinaons to suit all tastes and styles. With guaranteed UV stability, you can rely on your coang to never fade or yellow. The Penntek distributor and cerfied dealer for Western and Upstate New York, Apollo has put down roots in Rochester, led by Joy Bickert, Ma Prieur (Vice President), and Carl Szydlowski (Director of Operaons). Apollo has the coang experience, experse, and professionalism you need for your concrete surface.

Let’s welcome the warmer weather and sunshine with open arms! There’s no better way to soak up the sun than getting out of the house and planning some fun activities with friends and family. There are so many beautiful sights to see and fun to be had around Rochester as the weather starts to warm up. Taking advantage of all that the city has to offer is a sure way to make these summer months memorable. Rochester is known as the Flower City for a reason, so get out and smell those roses! Numerous floral displays can be seen at any of Rochester’s historic gardens or parks. Are you a nature lover? Highland Park is one place with some incredible sights to see and scents to take in. From gardens to conservatories and scenic estates, there are plenty of places to flex your green thumb knowledge. Several of Rochester’s museums also feature stunning flower gardens and landscapes ideal for an afternoon stroll. Don’t forget to check out any number of local festivals and markets when flowers are in full bloom! Not only are the parks perfect for spotting the blooms, but they’re also great motivation to get in some exercise. Rochester boasts beautiful trails whether you’re looking to enjoy an easy walk or to lace up your hiking boots for a challenge! Visit the Erie Canal to take in some amazing scenery. The Erie Canalway Trail forms

a large portion of the Empire State Trail, running from New York City through the Hudson River Valley to Lake Champlain. Here you can travel by foot, or even ride your bike along the paths provided for cycling, taking in not only beauty but history, as well. The Genesee Riverway Trail offers twenty-four miles of scenery through the heart of Rochester. Run, walk, or bike along this trail for views of the Genesee River, historic parks, and waterfalls. Heading outdoors and getting that blood flowing is both an instant mood booster and great way to bond with family or catch up with a friend! The warm weather also brings the city to life with several outdoor events and festivals. Whether you’re a lover of food, music, or the arts, there is something to be enjoyed by everyone. The Corn Hill Arts Festival takes over historic streets with work from hundreds of artists as well as music and many family fun activities. Foodies may want to check out the Food Truck Rodeo at the Public Market which will take place several times throughout the summer months. Here you’ll find just about every cuisine imaginable from local eateries around our city. A huge part of a city’s culture is music. Rochester certainly has a lot to offer when it comes to that. One of its major outdoor events is the Rochester Jazz Festival. Free music from some incredible
artists fills the streets during this week-long event! The Rochester Public Market also has a free concert series called Bands on the Bricks! This is a great way to enjoy live music from local artists and food vendors at the same time. Looking for a more relaxed activity for the family? Check out Movies With a Downtown View. Pack a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a series of free movie showings downtown. Don’t forget about what is quite possibly one of the best parts of warm weather days: dining outdoors. There’s no better combination than fresh air and a full stomach. Our city offers an array of breweries, many with fun outdoor games. Not a brews fan? Try wine tasting on a tour featuring gorgeous views along the Finger Lakes (my personal favorite activity!). Grab a meal at one of the Rochester area’s great outdoor eateries or even create a personalized outdoor dining experience by setting up a picnic in the park! We all have to agree that whether you’re getting the family together, seeing an old friend, or planning a fun date, Rochester has it all. There’s something for everyone to have a good time and take in the beauty of our city, especially while the sun is shining and the skies are blue! THEHOMEPUBLICATIONS.COM | Rochester 11

Finding Learning Fun with Child-Led Play
ARTICLE BY KAITLIN D ONNAN
Have you ever tried to lead your child in an activity only to find this structured play felt less like play and more like work, leaving everyone frustrated in the end? 14 THEHOMEPUBLICATIONS.COM | Rochester
FUN IN THE SUN
For Rochester area mom Kristin Burke and her daughters, Maggie (6) and Hazel (2), child-led play was something that came about organically. After looking into the Montessori method of education for their eldest, Burke and her husband, Peter, shifted their focus due to Covid. Balancing working from home with homeschooling, Burke found herself looking to keep her daughters both entertained and learning. The mom of two launched her Instagram, @Wildflowers_and_Mama, in the fall of 2020, never anticipating it would gain popularity. Filling her feed with activities for her daughters, Burke has taken the world of child-led play by storm. “My idea behind childled play was to make up for all of the fun activities Maggie was missing out on in kindergarten,” Burke said. “Like a lot of kids, she wasn’t meant for virtual school. She’s a very curious kid and a hands-on learner.” Burke’s activities have quickly grown into weekend events. The Burkes create “bucket lists” of activities for their girls. “We ask our daughters what they want to learn about each week, and we let the girls run the show—as much as kids can.” Many activities stem from ideas posed by Maggie; others are from Mom, though the girls don’t hesitate to weigh in. As warmer weather returns, Burke looks forward to getting outdoors more. “My kids learn by going outside and doing things, so we go explore and take a lot of hikes. With summer coming up, we’re looking forward to checking out the bird sanctuary and fairy trail at Mendon Ponds Park,” she said. “There are so many different things to do around Rochester; at least once a month we try to get out together as a family.”
One recent activity was centered around butterflies, which included learning anatomy, resin components, painting, and even live caterpillar kits for Maggie and Hazel to experience the real deal. While the caterpillars formed cocoons, the girls got to paint paper butterfly wings mom cut out to hang and dry. “I’m always amazed by what Maggie retains—and Hazel, too,” Burke said. “We covered butterflies last year too, and this year while I was organizing, I asked Maggie to put our butterfly anatomy box upstairs. I later went up to look for her and found she had not only opened it up, but she’d put everything in the correct spot and had each piece correctly labeled.” At home, most weeknights and weekends are spent doing various activities with the girls. Neither are homeschooled, so Burke says this is just added enrichment to ensure they aren’t stuck in the house or watching TV. In the playroom, Burke has set up a “tinker tray” and “sensory bin” for both the girls, both of which come into play often. The former, Burke says, is meant to host a “bunch of stuff they get to play with that all has a purpose. Each tinker tray lets them create without a ton of guidance.” A “sensory bin,” on the other hand, sounds just like it does on the tin. What Burke says is a creative outlet for mom too, is a “container of stuff” meant to incorporate at least one (often two: sight and sound) of the senses. In the past, Burke purchased dinosaur fossils made out of resin to bury in a sensory bin full of brown sugar (next time she’s using kinetic sand!) for her daughters to dig out while she read a book about dinosaurs to them. “Sometimes it’s just as much for mom as it is the girls,” Burke, who found her stride in child-led play, said. Pretendplay is something her husband often takes over, though both allow them to spend a lot of quality time and bond together.

I
f so, you’re not alone. Recently, some parents have found their children flourish with child-led learning. Where some classes and get togethers turned virtual, “childled” play encourages child-led play gives children the opportunity to choose their own learning activities, observing how children approach an activity and adapt a task to their own direction.

“I asked the girls the other day what they wanted to learn about. I got this long list of things like plants, weather, and animals. Today we crossed learning about plants and gardening off that list and planted our own indoor herb garden. For this activity we used: Organic Soil, Terracotta Pots, Herb Seeds For a little extra fun, we painted our pots first. Then I let the girls fill their pots with soil, plant their seeds, and water them a little to get them going. We planted Dill, Basil, Chives, and Rosemary. The girls are already expecting plants tomorrow, so we will see how this one goes. I, on the other hand, am very excited to finally start a herb garden. PS - muffin tins fit nicely inside the flisat.”
“If I’ve learned anything, one of the most important parts of child-led play is to make sure I’m in the right headspace for a given activity myself,” Burke said. “If I’m not, Maggie and Hazel likely won’t be either.” On the flip side, the girls also have to be in the right headspace themselves, and over the course of testing out new

play activities, Burke has found that it’s also crucial to take cues from the kids in regards to what they’re interested in. “If I ask what they want to do and let them take charge some, they end up more engaged.” She observes the route to learning is not always a straight line. “Sometimes we’ll come back to activities and sometimes we don’t, and that’s okay,” Burke said. “Some things do fail, so there are times I go in with few expectations. The kids take the lead. If I give them an activity like color sorting, it depends on what they want to do. If they want to color sort, they’ll color sort. If they want to take apart blocks and build, they will. At the end of the day, my kids having fun is what it’s all about.” Not all outings will go as planned, either. Burke and her husband once had a day planned at Genesee Country Village Museum only to find their youngest wasn’t having any of it. “We went back home and set up a station for her baby dolls in the backyard instead. She gave her dolls baths and had a blast,” Burke said. “Sometimes things don’t go as mom wants, and that’s okay too!”

Kristin Burke’s Child-Led Play Tips
Go with your gut. You know your kids better than anyone.
A sensory bin is also a strong place to start. It can be as simple as “a shallow plastic bin, some rice, and a ladle” to see what the kids do. She also recommends checking out Instagram for a few ideas, though it might be easy to fall down that rabbit hole. Her biggest piece of advice is to stick to what works for you and your kids. “You don’t need the most expensive toys, and it’s important not to compare your play to other kids’. Let them learn at their own pace by their own means.” See what piques your child’s interests. Take them outside for a day to explore one of the local parks or trails, or even venture out to unexplored territory in the backyard. A few common household items too can also unleash a whole new world of play and learning.
F E E D THE H UN G R Y CATE R PI LLA R “We don’t always do a ton of gross motor play, but it was such a beautiful day there was no way I was planning an activity inside.
Play is still play. The most important thing to remember with child-led activities is that “play is still play, no matter what the end goal was. Kids are kids, and they just want to play with you.”
For this play we used: A plastic bin with a caterpillar like face attached and all of the play food we could fit in the bucket that wouldn’t break if it was thrown. That’s it. Throw the food into the bucket to feed the caterpillar!”

THE DOGS ROC THE RESCUE
F Formerly known as Nuts for Mutts, ROC the Dogs Rescue, Inc. was established in 2019 by Amanda R Hanes. An animal lover and rescuer herself, Amanda took over the nonprofit organization three years ago to organically grow the rescue and reorganization the nonprofit. With the help of her family, Amanda transformed Nuts for Mutts into the very successful ROC the Dogs Rescue, Inc. ON A MISSION
ARTICLE BY R ILEY

ROC the Dogs Rescue, Inc.’s purpose is to rescue abandoned, surrendered, stray, abused, and/or neglected domesticated animals and to provide them with medical care and sanctuary with the goal of helping them find their forever homes. The nonprofit organization also seeks to educate the public on the plight of homeless animals in their communities, the benefits of adoption, the importance of spaying and neutering, and proper care of their pets. ROC the Dogs Rescue, Inc. rescues dogs, cats, and other small animals. The entire organization is run by a group of very dedicated board members and volunteers. In fact, Amanda believes the organization wouldn’t be where it is today without its family base. Her entire family is involved, and her husband and daughter also participate as board members. “You can’t be successful here without all hands on deck!” says Amanda. From a medical standpoint, this statement couldn’t be more accurate. ROC the Dogs prides itself on its ability to take complex cases, and, with their solid group of volunteers, transport those cats and dogs to necessary health appointments. They also have the tools to meet the needs of dogs and cats with complex wellness issues, such as the expensive incubator for kitten season which the nonprofit recently purchased! ROC the Dogs currently has five dogs in rescue. One dog named Brooklyn has a congenital defect; it could have been deadly, but the canine was blessed with the best-case scenario. Thanks to the nonprofit’s dedication to beating this pup’s many obstacles by conducting research, seeking many medical opinions, and going through intensive physical therapy, Brooklyn is now active, happy, and will be ready for adoption soon! 24 THEHOMEPUBLICATIONS.COM | Rochester
OH HAPPY DAY
FACING THE CHALLENGE OF RESCUE ANIMAL SOCIALIZATION Socialization is very different and needs to be strategized for rescue animals. Dog parks don’t exactly coincide with rescue organizations, so ROC the Dogs Rescue, Inc. has a fenced-in backyard, works with trainers, and hosts structured meetand-greets between animals. This is very important for the safety of the animals as well as the humans involved. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys taking her own pet dogs for nature hikes at Black Creek Park in Chili as well as Mendon Ponds Park.
A GROWING VENTURE ROC the Dogs Rescue, Inc. is small but mighty with a fantastic group of dedicated volunteers and board members! With their hard work, the organization has grown by 200% since Amanda took over in 2019. One key element, a social media presence, didn’t exist until Amanda joined them. Now, that presence helps the organization get more donations and shares profiles of cats and dogs ready for adoption. Several great partnerships also benefit ROC the Dogs. The nonprofit works with other organizations to get cats adopted. They’ve enhanced their networking efforts so more businesses and organizations are aware of the nonprofit’s mission in the Rochester area and can offer support.
INSPIRED BY ROCHESTER Growing up in Rochester, Amanda has seen firsthand the significant needs of dogs and cats in the area. Although she didn’t have cats and dogs growing up, she has been an avid animal lover all her life. The minute she moved out on her own, she knew she wanted cats and dogs in her life. At age 18, Amanda started rescuing and adopting her own pets. Loyal to Rochester and its surrounding counties, ROC the Dogs focuses on local animals and doesn’t transport them in from out-of-state.

statement pieces truly captured who Tucker was and I want to give that gift to others.” Self-described as having a “colorful” personality, Jamie’s judgment-free outlook gives horse, rider, and dog alike the freedom to be their most authentic selves. She is also extraordinarily patient. “I shoot until I feel that I have everything that is going to tell the story of your horse or your dog.” Before each shoot, Jamie consults with her client regarding wardrobe choices, exercises for the horse or dog, grooming, familiarizing dogs and horses with chosen settings, and more. She also provides incredible, battery-powered studio lighting and offers her farm as a photography location with its apple orchards, dirt roads, open fields, and rustic barns. After each shoot, Jamie and her clients review all the images she took, selecting their favorites. Then, she virtually places these images on the walls of each client’s home to give a more complete view of what the art will look like in place. Final portraits are hand-delivered whenever possible as she also travels wherever her clients choose to take her.
If you have ever been fortunate enough to enjoy the companionship of a horse or a dog, you know that they are more than pets. They are family. Loyal companions who are loved for a lifetime. Professional Equine Photographer Jamie Pankow transforms the incredible bond between you and your companions into fine art made to last for generations. Jamie Pankow has been involved in the horse industry for 17 years. First showing when she was eight years old, Jamie continues to devote her time to the equine industry through custom portraiture. “My goal when planning out a session is to create an experience that allows my clients to be the most authentic version of who they are as equestrians.” From start to finish, Jamie skillfully guides her clients by planning out their wardrobe, training tips and custom art creation. “A backyard companion horse may not be prepped the same as an active competitive horse, the same goes for their riders.” Jamie knows firsthand the value of such art. “I had to put my heart-horse of 15 years down last year. The most valuable things I own are the portraits I invested in with him. Those 28 THEHOMEPUBLICATIONS.COM | Rochester
Whether creating albums or life-size portraits, Jamie seeks high quality materials from family-owned businesses. Her leather albums are hand created by a Kentucky business mimicking the look and feel of a saddle. Her canvases come from a family-owned company in Washington State where each canvas is created from scratch, with hand built wood framing, a custom canvas stretched and secured perfectly, followed by artists hand-brushing over the portrait with acrylic to protect the canvas making the recommended cleaning method Windex. Each portrait is expected to last up to 200 years with no fading or warping and has quickly become a bestseller. ...
“Jamie did an incredible job with both my equine and dog shoot! She was so incredibly patient with the animals to get the absolute best photos! The editing she did was just as incredible and the final products were so beautiful! Jamie has a great eye for detail! I really appreciated that she took so much time to go through each photo with me and then hand delivered the prints! I would recommend her to any of my horse friends w h o show the circuits as her work was top notch!” -Audrey D.

toni coleman invites us into her home BY
TRIS H
PINO
Rochester hair stylist, artist and design aficionado, Toni Coleman, gives us a peek inside her dream home and the life she has beautifully crafted for herself and her family in the Flower City. Beautiful from the Inside Out Born and raised in Rochester, art has been a part of Toni’s life for as long as she can remember. She expresses her creativity through her career as a hair stylist and also infuses her passion for design into all that she touches. Whether it is perfecting a client’s hair, cooking a flavorful dinner, or designing each room of her eclectic mid-century modern home in Brighton, Toni makes everything (and everyone) she touches more beautiful from the inside out.
Silver Lining Coleman has been a hair stylist for more than 20 years with the goal of making her clients’ days brighter, reminding them of the beauty they have inside themselves. She applies this mentality to all that she does with a gracious heart and appreciation for the connection she has to others. When her business was halted due to the pandemic, she chose to focus on what she could control and was inspired by what she could create. Embracing the extra time, she turned to other things that brought her joy such as gardening, cooking, and tackling projects at home. With fewer trips to the grocery store and less travel in her schedule, she looked to what she had in her house and surprised herself with what she could make! She went room by room, upgrading her 1950s home which was a bit dated when she and her family first purchased it 7 years ago. Coleman welcomed the challenge as it allowed her to put her own touch on her home and add to the unique structure that was already in place. “I don’t like vanilla box houses. I fell in love with this one because it had great bones that were quirky and unique,” she recalls.

FOR THE HOME
Curated & Collected Mostly drawn to unique objects to create a look that is curated and collected, she enjoys taking her designs in the opposite direction of whatever is currently trending. She views her home and work as a canvas, drawing inspiration from all areas of her life, “I am an artist, always changing and evolving and tweaking things to make them my own.” Take for instance the dark, moody style she applied to her master suite. “I wanted to create a Zen vibe that was reminiscent of various places I’ve traveled to around the world and try to evoke that same feeling.” She has constantly refined and grown her own style over time, while coming to appreciate the imperfection of combining old and new elements – specifically referencing the influence from friends who had family heirlooms and how that inspired her to find a new appreciation for antique and vintage finds. “I feel a deep connection to these items as I think about the history behind the people who made them, how special they are and how their work crosses across cultures.” She reminds us that, “something doesn’t have to be simple or basic to be timeless. Even if it is extraordinarily unique or worn, that is timeless because it is one-of-a-kind. You can’t recreate that.”
The Story of Who We Are Her focus on detail and quality stretches into the finishes she chooses, often selecting real stone and wood over manufactured materials. This inspired her recent kitchen remodel where she took the whole space down to its bones, choosing a beautiful Italian leathered marble countertop to anchor the space. “Some people are hesitant to choose materials like this because they don’t want them to get stained or damaged, but it’s OK with me if it gets weathered because that will be a memory of the moment and who you were with. When we look back, that will be the story of who we are and what we do – the timeless memories of friends gathering around.” This thoughtful approach weaves meaning into each space in her home – sometimes purposeful and other times as a happy accident. In her bathroom, she hung a collection of old, primitive masks. It wasn’t until later that she came to reflect on their significance. “We wear many faces, and our bathroom is the place where we paint them, get ready and start our day, which is just like putting on a mask. At the end of the day, it is where we come to relax and unwind, to soak in our tub and release from the day, taking the mask off. This space is the many faces of Toni and is a true haven for me.”

God Threads Grounded in her faith and spirituality, the only thing more beautiful than her designs is her refreshing take on life, so grateful for all that she has learned from the women who came before her and eager to give back to those she crosses paths with. She refers to herself as an extrovert who loves people and has a magnet in her heart to connect with people and share stories and talents. She refers to these relationships as “God threads” – amazing people that come to her and sew threads into her life.
Community Inspiration The pandemic didn’t pause Toni Coleman’s sense of adventure, but instead amplified her connection to herself and her community. As a proud Rochesterian, she loves searching for and finding new artists and businesses in our local community. She is constantly surprised by the amazing people she meets and stories she hears that transport her to another world. Now that things are beginning to open back up and warm weather is here, she is looking forward to connecting with more people in the community and coming together again with family and friends to laugh and create new memories. toni’s beach vacay backyard vibes Tropical locations invoke my soul but I love living in Upstate NY. I believe in creating the life that you wish for, so I decided to just make my backyard my oasis. Investing in quality patio furniture covers is key. Mixing vintage and antique pieces with new modern elements is my favorite.
“It’s my favorite place to get centered and recharged.”

Daianne Osorio
Architectural Associate and Interior Designer Daianne Osorio brings together the best of two worlds, architecture and interior design, when working on both residential and commercial spaces for GLA clients. Her background in interior design enables her to visualize and plan a home’s interior spaces and floor plan as well as give interior recommendations and help clients make interior selections. Daianne has the invaluable gift of being able to implement both structural and design considerations throughout the process of creating plans for each home. Color plays a key role for Daianne when considering the activities that will be performed in a given space. “I like to focus on what color means and its effects psychologically.” She explores the interplay between the purpose of a space and the mood created by colors. Whether a home, a restaurant, a daycare, a salon, or even the Strong Museum of Play with which Daianne was involved, color and interior design play vital roles alongside architectural design. Daianne is currently putting both her interior design background and her architectural design prowess to work, blending the two seemingly disparate styles of modern and cabin for one of her clients. “It is a challenge to make the space logical as well as attractive.” This modern cabin fusion is an exciting opportunity, and she is excited to watch it come to life.

Soon to be a mother of three, Daianne came to the United States from Cuba in 2016, bringing with her a rich background including traditional Spanish architecture and vibrant color palettes.
