M AKE M ANAGING W INTER M ORE FASHIONABLE Dreaded hat hair is a major dow nside to w inter w eather. By follow ing a few tips, anyone can avoid hat hair: • M ake sure hair is completely dry before donning a hat. Damp hair can dry in the shape of the hat. • Use an anti-frizz serum to tame flyaw ays that occur w hen hats are removed. • Choose a w ell-fitting hat. Hats that are too small can cause dents and creases. • People w ith long hair can pull their hair back into a high bun before putting on a hat. This w ill prevent hair from flattening. Winter w eather may be harsh, but there are w ays to conquer the cold in style.
UNIQUE WAYS TO CELEBRATE VALENTINE’S DAY Valentine’s Day is an opportunity for couples to celebrate their love for each other, whether their relationship is relatively new or has endured through many years. The National Retail Federation estimates that Americans are expected to spend close to $20 billion on Valentine’s Day this year. While chocolates and champagne are high on the list of most-purchased items for February 14th, couples should not feel beholden to tradition on Valentine’s Day. This year may be the perfect time to try something new, even if it’s out of couples’ comfort zones. Here are some novel ideas for couple’s looking to set their celebrations apart. Paint and sip: Couples can take part in a growing trend this Valentine’s Day. At paint-and-sip events, people are guided step-by-step through the process of painting their own masterpieces. Breaks are provided through the evening to indulge in beverages and snacks of choice. Couples can bring along a bottle or two of wine and a platter of cheeses, chocolates or other Valentine’s Day fare. Those interested can inquire at their nearest paint and sip location, such as Pinot’s Palette, for Valentine’s Day specials. Activity night: Couples who are naturally competitive or devoted sports fans can enjoy the evening by engaging in some healthy competition. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

Some restaurants host trivia nights, or couples can head to the nearest arcade and battle it out. Panic and escape rooms are cropping up in towns across the country. These employ 60-minute real-life experiences in which participants must solve clues to escape the room. This can be a great bonding experience for fun-loving couples. Chef lessons: Although some couples may dine out on Valentine’s Day, men and women who like to dabble in culinary arts can prepare their own meals from the comforts of their own kitchens. Others may want to enroll in classes that provide expert instruction from area chefs or culinary instructors. Cooking classes can be an ideal way to spend time together learning skills that can be put to use again and again. Adventures: Couples who like to push the envelope can explore the possibilities of thrill-seeking activities. Some may include bungeejumping, hot-air balloon rides, taking laps at the racetrack, or hitting the ski slopes. Valentine’s Day might be a time for romance, but couples should not hesitate to buck tradition and spend the day together engaging in activities that accommodate their interests.

DID YOU KNOW? Broadening one’s horizons through crafting can be a worthwhile pursuit. Crafting can serve as a relaxing pastime and provide an opportunity to learn rewarding skills. Learning to crochet is one way for men and women to combine creativity and practicality. Crochet is a form of handwork using yarn and a crochet hook. According to the Crochet Guild of America, there’s no way to know just how old the art of crochet is. However, crochet expert Annie Potter has said the modern form of the art originated in the 16th century, primarily in France and England. Others surmise crocheting traces its origins to Arabia before it spread westward through various Mediterranean trade routes. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

STAY SAFE AND WARM DURING W INTER W ORKOUTS Layer correctly. Layering has long been a reliable w ay to beat the cold w hen temperatures are at their low est. Cotton retains moisture, and that means your sw eat w ill cling to your body and make you feel cold. Once you find a shirt made w ith moisture-w icking material to w ear against your skin, look for a second layer that also w icks moisture so you can more effectively control your body temperature. A Look Back… MOMENTS IN TIME The History Channel * On Feb. 8, 1587, after 19 years of imprisonment, Mary Queen of Scots is beheaded at Fotheringhay Castle in England for her complicity in a plot to murder Queen Elizabeth I. In 1542, while just six days old, Mary had ascended to the Scottish throne upon the death of her father, King James V.
Trees Not Tombstones: New Options For End-of-Life (NAPS)—The vast majority of Americans have not completed their end-of-life planning. In fact, over half of those age 45-plus have done no end-of-life planning at all, according to a recent survey conducted by Better Place Forests, the country’s first sustainable alternative to cemeteries for families that choose cremation. Better Place Forests hopes the idea of a beautiful, sustainable final resting place will encourage people to create those plans. Instead of tombstones, the company incorporates ashes into the base of beautiful trees in permanently protected forests. The company performs spreading ceremonies in the forest, where families can gather to say goodbye. Currently, there are two forests in California, in Point Arena in Mendocino County and in Santa Cruz, and the company plans to open more across the country.
* On Feb. 4, 1913, Rosa Parks is born Rosa Louise McCauley in Tuskegee, Alabama. Parks’ name has become synonymous with her refusal to give up her seat to a white man on a segregated bus in 1955. * On Feb. 6, 1928, a woman calling herself Anastasia Tschaikovsky and claiming to be the youngest daughter of the murdered Russian czar Nicholas II Romanov arrives in New York City. It wasn’t until 1994 that Anastasia’s DNA showed her to be Franziska Schanzkowska, a Polish-German factory worker.
There is a growing trend toward greener burial options in the United States. According to the National Funeral Directors Association, nearly 54 percent of Americans are considering a green burial and 72 percent of cemeteries report an increased demand for green burials. Thousands of people have already reserved trees for themselves. “Making plans and establishing guidelines for the end of your life means that loved ones don’t have to guess about your wishes and you can give them the experience you’d like them to have when you pass,” explained Sandy Gibson, CEO of Better Place Forests. “At Better Place Forests, we talk to people every day who find peace in knowing they have created a beautiful experience for their loved ones by selecting a family tree.” Beyond providing a more beautiful final resting place, choosing a tree in one of these memorial forests means you are leaving a legacy of conservation. The company performs spreading ceremonies in the forest, where families can gather to say goodbye and continue to visit—a feature current cremation options can’t provide. The trusts also actively manage the land to ensure that it’s less susceptible to forest fires. They hire forestry experts to keep the trees healthy and the forests free of invasive species. In addition, more trees are planted in areas in need for every tree a customer chooses. Thousands of trees have already been planted in forests devastated by the California wildfires. Learn More: For further facts, visit www.betterplaceforests.com. A beautiful forest can be a final resting place that brings comfort to family and friends. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

GET ON THE FAST TRACK TO BEING ORGANIZED • Keep a cleanup bin handy. Put an empty basket in a central location, using it to gather stray items scattered around main living areas. Once everything has been collected, items can be returned to their rightful place.
AKELEY LANDING
• Make the bed. One of the easiest ways to keep a room looking neat is to make the bed each day. Store clean linens in a pillow case so the entire set is together and ready to go. • Purge closets and cabinets. There’s no point allowing old, stained or damaged items to take up space. Set aside days to clear expired medication from the bathroom cabinet, discard ripped or ill-fitting clothing from the closet, or to dispose of broken toys in a nursery.

• Sort mail and paperwork. Establish different categories for papers so they can be sorted and discarded as needed. These may include bills, invitations, school papers, and junk mail. Reduce paper clutter by opting for digital correspondence when possible.

UPGRADE ATTIC INSULATION TO SAVE ON ENERGY EXPENSES (NAPSI)—One of the most cost-effective ways to make your home more comfortable year-round is to add insulation to your attic, including the attic trap or access door. By sealing uncontrolled air leaks, points out the U.S. Department of Energy, you can save 10 percent to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills. Fortunately, this can be a relatively easy task. Why Improve Your Insulation An improperly insulated attic can be a preventable source of energy loss and unnecessary expense. Over time, insulation can settle or compact, which reduces its R-value. An insulating material’s resistance to conductive heat flow is measured or rated in terms of its thermal resistance or R-value— the higher the R-value, the greater the insulating effectiveness. A breezy attic may also result in drifts or shifts in your original insulation, leaving gaps where heat can escape. By topping up your attic insulation, you’ll increase the thermal level, reducing your overall energy usage and saving you money. How To Do It A simple way to do this is to topup the existing insulation in your attic. This is one project that homeowners can often tackle for themselves. Look for timesaving, easy-to-install products, such as stone wool batts, that are easy to work with and don’t require costly blower rentals, protective clothing or an investment in expensive equipment. You can easily add Rockwool ComfortBatt insulation on top of most existing insulation to increase R-value in an attic without having to do any remediation or removal first. The batts will remain stable and won’t shift after they are put in place, ensuring upgraded thermal protection. They’re also: • Easily cut • Noncombustible • Excellent for sound absorbency • Not likely to rot or promote growth of fungi or mildew • Water and moisture resistant. To apply the insulation, simply begin in one corner of the attic, open the bag and place the stone wool batts as needed to get a consistent layer throughout the attic. Make sure to cover spaces around ducts, wiring and piping, converting these awkward spaces into energy-saving areas. One of the advantages of stone wool batts is their compatibility with other insulation types, eliminating any need to remove existing product. HOW COUPLES CAN BENEFIT FROM HIRING LOCAL WEDDING VENDORS: Local vendors will be familiar with the area and possibly even the location where the wedding will be held. That can help couples avoid having to give directions, discuss venue protocols, and handle other tasks that must be worked out with non-local vendors. For example, local photographers familiar with a particular venue will know all of the best places to get shots, and some vendors may have preexisting relationships with venue representatives that could ensure wedding day operations go smoothly.

Can Chocolate Worsen Irregular Heartbeat?
FLU-FIGHTING FACTS
---
DEAR DR. ROACH: I am 82 years old and still very active. I have had an irregular heartbeat for four years, and sometimes I feel lightheaded, dizzy or tired. I worry about it getting worse. Would you please give a detailed explanation about irregular heartbeat, including how or why it happens? What should I do to prevent it from getting worse? Is it life threatening? Will it become atrial fibrillation? Also, I am a chocolate lover and eat dark chocolate every day. But I was told that cocoa will make my irregular heartbeat worse and I should stop eating dark chocolate. Is that true? -- Q.Y. ANSWER: Everyone has irregular heartbeats from time-to-time. Early beats can come from electrically active areas anywhere in the heart, and an electrocardiogram can tell whether they are from the atria (the top chambers) or the ventricles (the bottom chambers) of the heart. An average person may have 500 or so of these a day -- some people have many more. Most are seldom aware of them. Having patients with this concern over and over during my career, I can reassure you that most cases turn out to be nothing to worry about. However, the fact that you are having symptoms, especially the lightheadedness and fatigue, is a warning sign, and I recommend you get an evaluation. Start with your regular medical provider, after which you may be referred to a cardiologist. The EKG in his or her office is a first step, but you may need a longer evaluation, such as wearing a 24-hour EKG (a Holter monitor) or newer technologies that allow longer readings. Atrial fibrillation is a concern, because most people will need treatment to reduce stroke risk or to return the rhythm to normal. Nevertheless, there are many other kinds of irregular heart rhythms, and you need a diagnosis first. If no cause is found, there are medications to reduce the irregularity, but they are seldom used. My experience is that when a person knows they are not dangerous, they can be lived with more easily. Chocolate does contain theobromide, a substance that can make the heart a little more irritable, but it takes a lot of chocolate to have a significant effect. It’s related to caffeine in coffee. Interestingly, a recent study found that chocolate lovers are less likely to develop atrial fibrillation, so the situation is more complex than just one chemical. ***
honey has many health benefits, partially because lemons are an alkaline food. Is this correct? -- B.W. ANSWER: I think I saw the same article. Lemon water may have some health benefits, but it is not an alkaline food, and drinking it has almost no impact on the acidity of your blood or urine, because the body’s buffer systems (the chemical processes used to keep the pH carefully regulated) are so effective. Lemons have a pH of about 2, so they are highly acidic. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) makes the urine more acidic. There is no consistent evidence that the foods we eat have a health benefit due solely to their effect on body pH. Many of the foods recommended for their supposed alkaline effects are indeed healthy, but for other, complex reasons apart from pH.

Study Shows That may be just as well, since the annual survey, conducted online by Harris Poll on behalf of CVS Pharmacy [1], found that two-thirds of those surveyed get a flu vaccine every year or plan to get one this year, a 5 percent increase from last year. One reason so many are flocking to get the shot is the knowledge of last year’s flu season—which according to the CDC had flu levels that were the highest observed since 2009. Twenty-two percent of those surveyed[2] say that knowledge of last year’s severe flu season makes them more likely to get a flu shot this year. On a similar note, among the 27 percent of parents of children under 18 whose child did not get the flu vaccine last year, 26 percent say they are more likely to get their child vaccinated this year after learning about the notably high flu levels during last year’s flu season. The percentage who get vaccinated at a pharmacy stayed at 22 percent, but the percentage of employed adults who get vaccinated at their workplace fell from 22 percent to 15 percent while those who got vaccinated by a health care professional rose from 44 percent to 48 percent. The survey also found that doctors’ opinions (39 percent), where insurance is accepted (38 percent), and convenience (33 percent) rank among the top three factors in determining where to go for the shot. The flu vaccine is a preventive service under the Affordable Care Act, so it’s fully covered and available at no cost through most insurance plans, including Medicare Part B. Nurse’s Advice “Surprising to many, it can actually take up to two weeks for the flu vaccine to build immunity,” explained Angela Patterson, Chief Nurse Practitioner Officer at MinuteClinic. “Because of this, CVS Pharmacy recommends patients get their flu shot as soon as the vaccine becomes available to ensure patients are the most protected before flu season peaks. Furthermore, influenza strains tend to change each year, so it’s very important to get vaccinated annually to make sure you are protected.” What Else You Can Do Here are four suggestions:
In fact, flulike symptoms haven’t stopped some people from going out in public in general: • 28 percent have gone to the supermarket • 12 percent have picked up a child from school or day care • 10 percent have taken public transportation. 2. Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based cleansing gel. 3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way. 4. Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs.
*** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Readers may email questions to ToYourGoodHealth@med.cornell.edu. © 2020 North America Synd., Inc. All Rights Reserved ●
To help, all CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic locations have the vaccine available seven days a week with no appointment needed.
1. Stay home if you’re sick. The survey found that two out of three respondents would still go to work if they had flulike symptoms.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), influenza has resulted in between 9.2 million and 35.6 million illnesses annually since 2010. The best way to stay out of such statistics, the CDC says, is for everyone who is eligible and at least 6 months old to get a flu shot as soon as the vaccine becomes available.

Caledonia Scouts Honored by Assemblywoman Byrnes By Amanda Dudek
F
ive former Caledonia seniors from Troop 4027 recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout, an impressive feat in a class of 64 students. Eagle Scouts Brenden Gardner and Matt Keller were honored in September 2019 while the remaining three celebrated at the Big Springs Museum on Saturday, January 11th. New York State Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes and Monroe County Legislator Steve Brew attended this Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony. Both Byrnes and Brew respectively presented each Eagle Scout with a certificate recognizing their accomplishment. These three young men - Brice Hatch, Evan Maniscalco and Ryan Pelkey - became Eagle Scouts, completing their respective projects and passing the Eagle Board. “Matt Keller built a firewood storage Unit for the Genesee Country Village & Museum’s maple sap evaporator,” said Troop 4027 Scoutmaster Hatch. “Brenden Gardner painted inside the Eunice Lodge in Caledonia. Ryan Pelkey constructed a turtle enclosure, including a fence, viewing area and pool at the Genesee Country Village & Museum.” “My son Brice built two benches along Oatka Park hiking trails in Scottsville,” continued Hatch. “He also planted 100 trees, 50 white spruce and 50 sycamores. Evan Maniscalco built and installed two Little Free Libraries at the Genesee Country Village Nature Center.” “Each Scout needs to plan and facilitate a project as part of their Eagle Scout requirement,” explained Hatch. “They typically receive help in completing their project from fellow Scouts, friends and family.” Each project requires approximately 100 service hours and is one of the final things a Life Scout must do to complete their Eagle Scout application before turning 18.
Evan Maniscalco with one of his Little Free Libraries!
Little Library designs online, and we picked one we felt would work well.” Of course, the project was not without its challenges. “Building them was the biggest challenge,” explained Maniscalco. “[The plans] weren’t super detailed, so we had to take some liberties on the designs to get it to work better. It wasn’t super hard, but it definitely took a lot of brain power.” The only installation snag was along the Geology Trail where the ground is harder and rockier. The project was a success. “They were very happy,” affirmed Maniscalco, referring to the museum. Maniscalco’s family first introduced him to Boy Scouts, bringing him to his older brother’s Cub Scout meetings before moving away. “My family pushed for it,” he said. “I wasn’t really sure.” It was Maniscalco’s grandfather who helped him make his decision. “He said he would help me out along the way,” he recalled. “He would drive about an hour to where the meetings were, which was right across the street from where I lived. It was really nice of him. He didn’t have to, but he did that for me.” Maniscalco loved the Scouts, making new friends in a new town. “It was a great opportunity and experience for me,” he shared. “I got swept up in the whole thing, and next thing you know, I was working on my Eagle project.”
New York Assemblywoman Byrnes honors Caledonia Eagle Scouts! (l-r) Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes, Ryan Pelkey, Brice Hatch & Evan Maniscalco
There are several ranks in the Boy Scouts: Cub, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and Eagle. “Only about 4% of Scouts reach Eagle level, so it is quite the accomplishment,” said Hatch. “This is a good group of young men, and they worked very hard.” Project choices are largely up to the individual Scout.
Being recognized by Assemblywoman Byrnes and Legislator Steve Brew was an unexpected privilege. “I was honored that they came,” said Maniscalco. “I was really surprised. No one told me beforehand, so when they came up and made their speeches, I was like, ‘Wow!’ This is awesome.” As for joining Boy Scouts, Evan Maniscalco recommends it, crediting his parents’ support and noting that his Scout friends are some the best he has. “I think the image portrayed by the media and in movies of scouting isn’t accurate,” he said. “They show people just going into the woods and doing goofy, little camping stuff. “Brice’s grandparents lives very close to Oatka Creek Park, and he wanted to do something to help her and the community,” Hatch shared. “He built two benches so that if his grandparents wanted to go for a walk and sit down on one of these benches and take a breather, they could.”

Evan Maniscalco described his Eagle Scout project. “I built two Little Free Libraries for the Genesee Country Village and Museum,” he said. “The one on the Geology Trail will have books related to geology, rocks, fossils and the like. The other one, next to Ryan Pelkey’s turtle enclosure, will have books about nature, turtles and other animals in the area.”

Though Law Enforcement Appreciation Day has passed, it is not too late to thank the men and women who put a uniform on every day to protect and serve. Saturday afternoon, I was sitting in my living room in Webster. As I looked out the window, I saw a man riding his bike. On People need to seriously start picking up the poop from their dogs! I am so tired of, and disgusted by, dog poop all over the place, including my front lawn. I have a large dog that I walk every day, and I 100% pick up after him. You know who you are; stop it! After reading about a disruptive child in a checkout line especially when the child tried to steal personal property and was messing with the cash register, I have to wonder why this cashier did not immediately call for the manager to come to the front of the store and handle this situation. That is one of the responsibilities of a store or front-end manager. Does anyone in the [local town] know what a stop sign is or how to stop? I realize that you think GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

his bike, he had attached a large can. As he rode along, he would stop and reach (with a hand extender) and pick up papers and put them in the can. What a wonderful thing for him to do after uncaring people throw them out with no concern about the mess they left. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

A very special thank you to Jodi Drojak of Bark & Bubbles Pet Grooming in Webster. Her care and love that she gives to our two dogs means the world to our family. She is a fantastic person and the best groomer we have ever had. Also, thank you, Amanda Marietta, for your
On Sunday, January 26, Riga Recreation held its annual “WinterFest” in partnership with the Churchville Lions Club, the Churchville-Chili School District and the Monroe County Parks Department at the Churchville Elementary School. The Lions, once again, sold out their “World Famous” Chicken BBQ, and there were carnival games, airbrush tattoos, caricature drawings, and a bounce house in the gymnasium. Thanks go out to the following organizations and people that made this year’s event a huge
directionals are optional, but stop signs are not. Also, while waiting to go over the one bridge we have, don’t park across people’s driveways. Finally, to those who buy their coffee at the little shop in the village, stop parking where it is not a parking spot, so that anyone handicapped can’t enter other businesses. Can any of you be considerate?
all. Maybe this is one reason why so many restaurants and businesses are going under. The added costs to do any kind of business in New York State are outrageous! Add to this the lack of any customer service, and it would equal disaster and fewer jobs. Minimum wage goes up; then all prices go up, so no one gains anything in the end. Having no state income tax would help.
Far too many chain restaurants are forgetting about good customer service, i.e. good wait staff etiquette, and worrying about profit over customers. If you’ve ever learned economics in school, when they used to actually teach basic life skills as part of the regular curriculum, you would have learned that without customers to serve, you have no money, and no profit is made at
Please, please, please, if you put garbage out for collection, be considerate of your neighbors and do your best to make sure your bins don’t tip! Every time garbage day is windy, my yard ends up strewn with wind-blown trash and recycling. If people simply took a little more care with how they fill and place their bins, I wouldn’t be stuck picking up and disposing of someone else’s garbage.

success – the Churchville Lions Club for their famous BBQ, the Churchville Elementary School’s Kitchen and Custodial Staff, Erin Maysick and Girl Scout Troop #60487 for a wonderful carnival experience in the gymnasium, the Churchville Leo Club and their advisor, Marty Molinari, for caricature guy and his wonderful portraits, Arlene’s Airbrush Tattoos and Air Affair for their bounce house! We look forward to WinterFest 2021. David Thomas, Recreation Supervisor, Town of Riga
Weeks before Christmas, I had put up my Christmas lights on my house on a typical village street. At dark, I went outside and stood on the sidewalk, inspecting the joy when I heard footfalls in the snow on the street and saw that a woman was jogging toward me. Simple courtesy called for some kind of acknowledgment, and I smiled and said hello, not thinking that a man standing on a sidewalk at dusk could appear sketchy. Immediately, she got an unpleasant look, muttered something unpleasant and sprinted away down the street. I felt bad instantly for making her uncomfortable. I understand, and her reaction wasn’t wrong, but it’s a shame that a simple smile and hello can cause fear or discomfort. The world got a little colder for me that day.

Whereas professionals may have once worked for the same company for the majority, if not the entirety, of their careers, nowadays it’s not uncommon for men and women to change jobs several times before reaching retirement. Changing jobs and changing careers are not necessarily the same thing. Professionals mulling a career change will have to consider a host of factors that men and women looking to change jobs may never have to contemplate. Such factors may include returning to school and lifestyle changes designed to make living on less income more feasible. Professionals changing careers may also need to develop a strategy for handling job interviews. When changing jobs as opposed to careers, professionals can draw attention to their résumés, essentially letting their experience speak for itself. But while experience is often a feather in a job candidate’s cap, professionals changing careers may need to focus more on their futures than their pasts when interviewing for a new career. The decision to change careers can induce both excitement and anxiety. Maintaining a positive attitude and employing various strategies when interviewing with prospective employers can help make the transition to a new career go smoothly. EMPLOYMENT

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) You need to be certain that all the right conditions are in place before you take that first step. It can’t hurt to listen to good advice from those who have your best interests at heart. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Be careful not to get involved in other people’s disputes unless you know the facts behind the disagreements. That’s the best way to be assured of making wise and honest decisions. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) You still need to be careful about how you’re going to spend those energy reserves you finally got around to restoring. Best advice: Avoid overdoing it. Let things take their course. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Your aspect continues to favor travel -- alone or with that special person. So if you’ve been putting off making those getaway plans, it’s still a good time to get started on them. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Those so-called golden opportunities that continue to dazzle the Lion still need to be carefully checked out. Be suspicious about anything that looks like the “perfect” prospect. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Changes at the workplace could make it more difficult to do things the way you prefer. But the wise Virgo who shows some flexibility could find it paying off in a big way. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) You might want to check out the explanation you were given for a sudden shift in your duties. There’s a possibility that you haven’t been told all the facts that you deserve to know. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Having confidence in your abilities is important, especially when you could be facing a new challenge, whether it’s in the workplace or in a personal relationship. Good luck. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) A new work-related opportunity might not be all that it seems. Before making any decisions, you might want to check with others who have had some experience in that area. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) A situation involving someone close could benefit from your timely intervention. Avoid being judgmental. There’ll be plenty of time later for those “little talks” you like to have. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Travel could be a surprise element in that new project. Be prepared for other previously undisclosed aspects that also might come to light as you proceed with the work. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Try to balance your work-related responsibilities with the time you’re spending on your recently revived social life. An old friend might be planning to return after a long absence. BORN THIS WEEK: Your sensitivity makes you aware of the needs of others. Have you considered a career as a counselor?
