GROUNDWORK CASE STUDY
TWO BRONZE AWARDS FOR ACORN BUSINESS PARK SUMMARY
“ We are looking forward to getting involved in a local environmental project and working towards the silver and gold awards. We appreciate the on-going support provided by Groundwork. “
Two businesses in Acorn Business Park achieve Bronze Environmental Business Pledge Award with the help of Groundwork Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford (MSSTT).
THE PROCESS Both Fairhurst Estates, a leading firm of commercial charted surveyors and Print Image Network, one of the North West’s most dedicated print and project management companies, have worked with Groundwork MSSTT on the Environmental Business Pledge to identify areas of environmental improvement. The Environmental Business Pledge is an award scheme delivered by Groundwork MSSTT in partnership with Stockport Council. The scheme helps businesses in Stockport to reduce their environmental impact, raise environmental awareness and save money.

GROUNDWORK CASE STUDY THE RESULTS To meet the Bronze criteria, both businesses had to take multiple steps to monitor and manage their effect on the environment. By monitoring their electricity, gas, water and vehicle mileage they have successfully calculated their carbon footprint. The results from this assessment can then be used as a baseline to make reductions and potentially offset some of their emissions. In meeting the Bronze criteria, they also demonstrated that they have procedures in place to deal with environmental emergencies and an Environmental Policy. Fairhurst Estates also saw the Pledge as a useful opportunity to increase their involvement in local issues and have used the Bronze criteria to pledge support for local environmental projects and ‘Manchester’s A Certain Future’ climate change action plan.
