What is Trafford Ecology Park?
Who manages the site?
Trafford Ecology Park is a Site of Biological Importance found deep in the heart of Trafford Park, the largest industrial park in Europe. The Ecology Park is an 11 acre urban oasis with an abundance of wildlife and natural beauty, a perfect location for office days out, training and educational excursions.
The park is owned and managed by Groundwork MSSTT, a local environmental regeneration charity. With help from volunteers, Groundwork maintains the natural habitat of the park for local people, businesses and wildlife to enjoy for years to come.
“
I work within the Trafford Park area and find it amazing and delightful to travel down to Trafford Ecology Park in my free time to enjoy this amazing piece of natural beauty and wildlife. One would not believe this is set in the middle of what is/was an industrial estate. Charl Van Den Berg

GROUNDWORK ECOLOGY PARK
Visiting Trafford Ecology Park
History of Trafford Ecology Park The site was originally part of the ‘De Trafford’ Family estate but was enveloped by encroaching industry in the early 1900s. In the following years the area was used as a tipping site by industry and partly filled with construction rubble and slag from the steel works. Work to restore the site began in 1988 by Trafford Park Development Corporation. Since then Groundwork Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford(MSSTT) have regenerated the side into a Site of Biological Importance and rely on volunteers to help with the up-keep of the park.
