GROUNDWORK CASE STUDY

 PROJECT NAME St. George’s Play Area

ST.GEORGE’S PLAY AREA COLLYHURST, MANCHESTER

 LOCATION Collyhurst, Manchester  CLIENT St. George’s Youth & Community Association

 CONTRACT VALUE

PROJECT SUMMARY  Funding from the Big Lottery and United Futures provided the much needed money to redevelop a redundant pub car park into a striking natural play area 

Landscape Architects from the Groundwork Trust worked closely with the Client and local children and teenagers to design a natural play area which has been constructed to stimulate imagination

There is an emphasise on natural materials for the play features and surfacing along with boulders and planting. Local children helped to make the finishes touches at a bulb and flower planting event

 The play area sits adjacent to a hard surfaced ball court with rebound fencing and contributes to the great facilities for children and young people at the centre “Before the natural play area was developed it was just waterlogged grass where the old pub car park was for years. We’ve wanted to develop something for the older children in the area for a long time. I’ve known about Groundwork for years so got them involved. I’m grateful to them for keeping us informed and involved and making sure that through consultation everyone in the community was on board.” Sheila Davies - Chair of St. George’s Youth and Community Association
