Transformation of a disused car park into a community growing space Formation of the Sale West Community Garden Group (SWCGG) Group supported to plan and deliver on-site works and events to engage local people and promote the project Delivery of healthy eating and art projects at local schools and the Youth and Community centre. The boards produced now decorate the garden Involvement and support generated from the wider community, evidenced by the lack of vandalism on site and the well attended weekly drop in sessions Group making future plans, including fundraising, development of new sites in the area and expanding the numbers benefiting from local growing

GROUNDWORK CASE STUDY PROJECT OBJECTIVES To establish a community group to deliver and run a community allotment on a disused car park To ensure the group operates in a financially and environmentally sustainable way To promote healthy lifestyles by providing the infrastructure to grow food locally To provide a better quality local environment by improving a disused space

OUR ROLE Supporting the establishment and initial activities of a constituted group, SWCGG Helping the group to involve the wider community in the design, build and now on-going maintenance of the growing space Supporting the group through provision of formal training sessions including event planning, involving others, risk assessment and applying for funding Working with Trafford College to initiate a 6 week Introduction to Growing course Facilitating the group’s development of local partnerships including with Irwell Valley Housing Association, Friends of Dainwell Park, the local SWAP partnership and local schools Supporting the group to develop a sustainable plan for their future activities, including building up numbers of volunteers and fundraising
