Original title: Den store Lillesøsterboka Illustrator: Kari Grossmann Series: Baby Sister / Lillesøster Category: Picture books Age range: 0-4 Number of pages: 136
In My Book of Questions Kari Grossman addresses some of the most important funny, strange, wise and tricky questions that children pose. Each question is accompanied by detailed illustrations that can be used as a starting point for interaction. Most of these questions aren’t easily answered, and new questions are bound to arise as one reads together. The questions concern you and me, emotions, reality and imagination, and life and death. What is love? Are there things that everyone must do, and how much is many?
The books about Baby Sister have become modern classics. Children just love them and want to read them again and again. It is exciting to study the detailed illustrations from everyday situations that all children recognize, and it is fun to hear about Baby Sister who prefers to decide for herself whether she should eat breakfast, give up nappies or shop for candy. But things don’t always work out as planned.

Illustrator: Inger Lise Belsvik Category: Picture books Age range: 4-8 Number of pages: 32
What do grownups do after they have read us a bedtime story, turned off the light and set the door ajar? Do they eat fish and boiled carrots? Or do they fetch the crisps? Do they whistle old tunes? Or do they kiss on the mouth? An inquisitive and philosophical picture book about the mysteries of grownup life after bedtime.
About the author and the illustrator: Cathrine Grøndahl (b. 1969) is a lawyer and poet. She made her debut in 1994 with the book of poems Riv ruskende rytmer. About the author and the illustrator: Terje Borg (b. 1956) is a commercial writer and lecturer. What Do Grownups Do When We Are Not Watching? is his first book. Inger Lise Belsvik (b. 1961) is an artist and illustrator. She has illustrated more than twenty children’s books.
Cathrine Grøndahl has written poems about the young, strong-willed princess many of us know – the princess who is extremely charming when it suits her, or just uncooperative enough when that suits her better. We accompany the princess into her castle, out on adventures, to princess birthdays and in quarrels with princes. Grøndahl’s humorous turn of phrase and Andersson’s characteristic illustrations make this an enjoyable book to read aloud for big and small princesses – and for anyone else who has a small Royal Highness in the family.

Original title: Pappaen min bor I himmelen Illustrator: Bjørg Thorhallsdottir Category: Picture books Age range: 4-8 Number of pages: 40
Original title: Alvis, skurken og larvesøstrene som (nesten) ble spist Illustrator: Camilla Kuhn Category: Picture books Age range: 4-8 Number of pages: 32 It isn’t easy to be a small elf boy on summer vacation when all Mummy wants to do is lie on the couch and paint her toenails and eat chocolate. It doesn’t make matters any better when you also have to look after your caterpillar sisters. No wonder, then, that Elfis gets really excited when a little crook asks if he wants to play! But he soon learns that it is difficult to play pranks and watch over one’s baby sisters at the same time!
What do you tell a child when a member of the immediate family dies? What words can express the indescribable sorrow? Bjørg Thorhallsdottir lost her husband while still young, and My Daddy Lives in Heaven is based on the book she made for her own son when his father died. The simple, poetic text and the beautiful, expressive illustrations are filled with comfort and wisdom and can be very helpful in conversations with children about death and mourning.
About the author and illustrator: Bjørg Thorhallsdottir (b. 1974 on Iceland) is an artist and writer and has held more than 40 exhibitions at home and abroad. She is regarded as one of Norway’s finest graphic artists.

– Men hold deg unna badedammen.

The Big Book About Granny and the Eight Children Original title: Den store boken om mormor og de åtte ungene Illustrator: Johan Vestly Category: Read aloud books Age range: 4-8 Number of pages: 472 Because they live in cramped quarters and are a handful, the eight children are probably a tad more inventive than most children. Which leads to some funny situations – like when Morten invites four pigs over for coffee and Mina and Milly meet a whiskerbear in the woods. Then it’s good to be eight siblings and a long dog who can help each other out. And a Granny of course, who keeps a cow in her room. The Big Book About Granny and the Eight Children consists of all the five books about Granny and the others.

A new edition of the first book in Anne Cath. Vestly’s popular series. It isn’t always easy to be the youngest family member. It can also be lonely, especially when the family has just moved to a new place, mother works, father commutes and big brother Philip is at school all day. Luckily Junior finds a pine root that looks just like a little person. He names him Twigson, and Twigson becomes his best friend, someone he can confide in and share everything with.
Twigson is faithful and kind, but he also has his own opinions, so Junior has to come to an agreement with him about what they shall do. While mother is working in the shop, they perform small errands for the shop man, or they visit Auntie Everywhere and Tiny. Spring has arrived, and there are plenty of exciting things to see in the shop window at Horses’ Corner. The most exciting thing of all is a tricycle, thinks Junior. So does Twigson. But one day the tricycle is gone ...

Linn spins round. There was that sound again. She peeks at the sign above the door. “The Happy Cockerel” it says, but the door is shut and all is quiet. Too quiet. The whole building is dimly lit, resting. She should never have come here, should never have allowed herself to be tempted to earn money by working for Uncle Albert. Are they coming after her too, or has Petter managed to give them the slip? El Dorado is about treachery and betrayal, dreams and anxiety. “The Happy Cockerel” doesn’t show its real face until everything is revealed.
For Mickel there is only one thing that counts: Soccer. And his buddy Ozzy. And Yvonne, the cutest girl in school. OK, that’s three things: Soccer, Ozzy and Yvonne. Well, four if you count surviving a day without being jumped by a jerk from another team who swore to kill you after an ugly tackle. Life is far from simple when you are 14, goalie on the soccer team and shortest in school. And it doesn’t get any simpler when a new boy joins the class, and he’s just as short, but a better goalie!

But Caravaggio has devised a shrewd plan. He intends to continue making money on the Dream Prince even though he sold him out. So pretty that some of the most popular boys in school have hung up a poster of her. In addition she is bright and clever and all that. But the instant the poster came up, it was torn down again. Somebody had scrawled over her face and scribbled the word BITCH in capital letters. Nobody takes the blame, but Katta is convinced that it is the work of the Girlie Junta. Thank God she has her art. Just like Frida Kahlo, Katta loves to paint. And painting often helps her forget the sad thoughts that grow inside her. But sometimes even that isn’t enough ...

Frognerbadet after Dark is a ruthlessly candid story about the lengths one might go to in order to feel included. Simon and his friends sneak into the swimming centre Frognerbadet at night. Simon is badly scarred from a burning injury and he never bares his upper torso when people other than his friends are present. That is why he never enters diving contests. Apart from that, he is one of the boys. Until he falls in love with Petra. Why don’t the other boys like her? Has Simon misunderstood something? new edition infatuations. What makes this case special is that we see it all through the eyes of one of the worst delinquents. The result can sometimes be unsettling – this is unquestionably a powerful novel!
It is late summer, hotter than boiling oil, and 17 year old Kurt Are Venger’s next door neighbour has just been found murdered. Beaten to death with a blunt object. Too bad. She was the only person worth talking to … even if she was as old as the hills. And when the police appear to be miles away from solving the murder, Kurt decides to take matters in his own hands. If only the damned heat would ease up so a guy could think straight… Revenge is a tightly woven and claustrophobic comic book without illustrations, a cousin of books like Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye and Bret Easton Ellis’s American Psycho, a nephew of movies like Taxi Driver and Falling Down.
About the author: Jan Chr. Næss (b. 1964 in Guildford, England) made his debut with the novel Myself and My Beloved Ones. He has written books for children and adults, but this is his first book for adolescents. Tomorrow it will be Christmas. In a house somewhere in Norway lives a girl with her little duckling. It’s just the two of them, as it’s always been. But it would have been so nice to have a mum and dad. To decorate the Christmas tree with, at least.
Some days everything is just infuriatingly sad and difficult. It simply makes you furious. Mad as a wild boar. Yes, or a duckling. One of those days could be a Thursday. And on this particular Thursday, the duckling comes up with a great idea for eliminating anger.
My sap is trickling to no avail! sighs the tree But I stick out my tongue and drink 47

Through twelve short stories we get to know children and adolescents in the town Kaupang in the 9th century A.D. Each story is followed by a text discerning between what is fact and what can only be guessed at. The fact material is based on all that archaeologists and other researchers have discovered through their research on jewelry, coins, insect remains, animal bones, houses, wells and toilets. Trond Bredesen’s illustrations show children in Kaupang, and photos from the excavation and the artefacts found serve to spur the imagination on.
About the author: Unn Pedersen (b. 1973) is an archaeologist and a specialist on Kaupang. She participated in the excavation of Kaupang and has been engaged in presentations for children and adults. She is currently doing research on the archaeological findings.
Ebbe Hartz, Susan Glimmerveen, Niels Hovius and Trude Dybendahl Hartz Journey to the Ice Age. Two boys on an Arctic Expedition Original title: Reisen til istiden. To gutter på arktisk ekspedisjon Category: Non-fiction Age range: 6-10 Number of pages: 128
The eight year olds Torjus and Miro are allowed to join a scientific expedition to North-Eastern Greenland, one of the most remote areas in the world. In this book they tell us about all the exciting things they experienced on the trip, about encounters with muskoxen, calving icebergs, polar bear footprints and about the children they played with in the small community of Ittoqqortoormiit. In addition to the boys’ travelogue, we learn interesting facts about animals and nature, expeditions, geology and climate change. The prize-winning photographer Thomas Ulrich participated in the expedition and took the amazing pictures in the book. The book has four major strands of information. They are 1) ice and climate, 2) geology and deep time, 3) biology, and 4) history and culture. These four strands run through the book, and they are woven together by the travel story. All strands come together in the Inuit village of Ittoqqortoormiit, where different waves of Inuit have settled near a special geological phenomenon, hot springs from cold ground. The Inuit live from hunting, and are profoundly affected by the climate and its ongoing change.
About the authors: This book is a collaborative project between Torjus and Miro, their fathers, Ebbe Hartz and Niels Hovius, and their mothers Susan Glimmerveen and Trude Dybendahl Hartz, who all took part in the expedition. Ebbe Hartz (b. 1966) has a PhD in geology. He works as a senior scientist at the Physics of Geological Processes at the University of Oslo. He is also a senior geologist in Aker Exploration. Susan Glimmerveen (b. 1963) is from Holland and has published two novels in Dutch. Dr. Niels Hovius (b. 1964) has a PhD in geology. He works as a scientist and lecturer at Cambridge University, England. Trude Dybendahl Hartz (b. 1966) writes for several news papers and works as a professional coach.

Bingo! Mange fisk i garnet!
Her i båten føler jeg meg innestengt i overlevelsesdrakten.

FIRE MILLIONER TONN I SEKUNDET!

Det finnes over hundre

ICON is a series of biographies of the 20th century’s greatest idols,
released in 2008. Each story is written by authors with a real passion for their subject. Several hundred youths have helped choose the icons that are portrayed.
Cecilie Asker ICON Madonna
Harald Henmo ICON Che Guevara
Steinjo ICON Michael Jackson
Ambitious, provocative, trendsetting, wilful, committed, hardworking ... Ever since her childhood as a Catholic schoolgirl outside of Detroit, Madonna has headed straight for fame and stardom. But how did a seemingly mediocre singer and dancer manage to become the greatest female pop artist ever? In this book Cecilie Asker tells her tale of the icon and tries to solve the Madonna riddle once and for all.
Ernesto “Che” Guevara is one of the 20th century’s most myth-surrounded characters. He was the middle class boy who studied medicine but gave up his career and his homeland and joined the Cuban revolution. He was a dreamer and an idealist, but also a ruthless guerrilla commander. In the 1960’s he played a central part in the building of the new Cuban society as head of the Central Bank and Minister of Industry, but he died an undernourished, disillusioned man in the Bolivian jungle. Today his image is used to front anything from the anti-globalization movement to commercial industry, and it has become all but impossible to separate the man from the myth.
Michael Jackson was one of the greatest pop artists of all times, but his last years were marked more by trials and bizarre incidents. The writer Stein Johan “Steinjo” Grieg Halvorsen is known from the NRK comedy series Slå på ring. He has been a fanatic Michael Jackson fan most of his life. In this book he tells his own, highly personal story about the icon.
About the author: Cecilie Asker (b. 1976) works as a music journalist in Aftenposten. In addition she plays drums for the rock band The Launderettes, who have released several records and toured Europe and the US. This is her first book.

Stein Erik Lunde The Biography of Amalie Skram
Siri Senje The Biography of Camilla Collett
Amalie Skram was an outspoken and beautiful woman with a host of suitors, but it wasn’t until after her death that she won true recognition as a significant naturalistic writer. Her books caused commotion and disparagement in their day, particularly due to their harsh criticism of men’s sexual morals. This book provides a warm and living portrait of a turbulent life and enthusiastic introductions to all her major works.
Camilla Collett was in the midst of things in the 1800’s. She was the first Norwegian woman to make a name for herself as an author – with Norway’s first novel using everyday material, and she spearheaded the struggle for women’s right to make their own choices. At the same time she led an unusually dramatic life as the sister of Henrik Wergeland, deeply in love with his worst enemy Welhaven, and as a poverty-stricken single mother of four when her husband died. This is the first Camilla Collett biography written for adolescents, and is a touching and engaging story it is easy to be enraptured by.
About the author: Stein Erik Lunde (b. 1953) is an author of books for adults, children and adolescents.
