Googolplex The world’s largest number?
Magnus Holm Beautiful, down-to-earth picture book about insanely large things Googolplex is an unusual book: a book for reading aloud about small and large numbers, especially about quite incredibly, incomprehensible, enormous, huge numbers. And that means also about the infinite, incomprehensibly large universe. It is also a book about five-year-old Tale who is off on a cabin trip with her family. Tale can count. She counts telephone poles. By using recognisable situations from everyday life, and taking small, concrete numbers and sizes as its point of departure, the book helps build up the child’s growing understanding of numbers. How large can numbers actually be? Is infinite a number? And is Googolplex the very, very biggest number in the world?
About the author Magnus Holm is a freelance journalist, writer and ski enthusiast. He lives in Larvik and has a degree in documentary filmmaking. He has previously published Curious About Robots (Mangschou) and Snow, Actually.

To tell a story without using words is an extremely demanding exercise. We have therefore asked some of the best visual story-tellers in Norway to do it.
The Cup Kristoffer Kjølberg It sure isn’t nice when your dad would rather display the trophy from his last golf tournament on the mantel piece instead of the nice photograph you took of the two of you together last year. And it isn’t nice when you suggest that your dog can guard the house, and your dad only laughs and hires a Schäfer dog to do the job. But what are you to do when the Schäfer turns out to be a part of a scary gang of trophy-thieves?
I’m Out of Here Mari Kanstad Johnsen
When you’ve moved to a new place, far away from your friends and your old school class, then it’s not so unusual to feel a little lonely. Maybe the new class will become friendlier after a while? Or maybe not. Maybe one needs a clever trick to make new friends – how about a luminescent rabbit?

The Neanderthalers Jan Chr. Næss Before human beings like you and me there was a different type of human. The Neanderthalers. Were they clever or stupid? Did they eat each other? What do we know about them? After the success of Wild Animals in Town comes a just as exciting factual book with the same author and illustrator. This time it deals with the Neanderthalers. We get to know what they looked like, their culture and way of life – how they subsisted, what clothes they wore and what they sounded like. One thing that is attempted throughout – in both text and illustrations – is to show us how little they actually differed from us in many of these areas. New research is communicated with a touch of humour for children who have just learned to read, but the book will also find readers among older children who are interested in the subject.

Three pieces of the lance – two guardians – a timeless evil.
A month ago, Martin Sølvfoss was just an ordinary young Norwegian exchange student in England, but when his father was reported missing after a sailing trip, he discovered that the Sølvfoss family had been guardians of one of the three holy fragments of the lance that pierced Christ’s side when he hung on the cross. The Escape – Beta 1 In an alternative version of our world, in the decades following a military coup, the Nordic nations’ identities have been erased, and the totalitarian state Skandia has evolved. Pollution disasters have made nature toxic, and the sea is out of bounds. Art, literature and music are banned. Very few have a concept of family life, most people grow up in dorms, in fierce competition to be chosen for officer training and a privileged life. Just before the dreaded Selection is about to take place, fifteen year old Kodak, Livni and Jor unearth a dreadful secret. Something has to happen. And they understand what they have to do …
The Island - Beta 2 Kodak and Jor have escaped from the dorm and Skandia, an ice-cold dictatorship where art, literature and music are forbidden. Along with 24 other 15-year-olds they have fled to an uninhabited island, where there are still remains of the old civilisation. At least if the map the archer left behind is correct. Back in Skandia, Livni lies injured in the infirmary. She has to act the role of her life. No one must know what actually happened. No one must know what she actually did, or who she is helping. Because they can’t give up now, can they?

“This book is truly one of the best dystopian novels I have ever read. The way everything is constructed and written is brilliant. The authors have written a masterpiece of a book with no weaknesses. Two clever authors with one outstanding achievement. I recommend both this and the first book to anybody and everybody. I give The Island six out of six stars.” FOLKEBLADET

The Test of Obedience Bjørn Ingvaldsen You know Alvis. The one they call Alvis Piss. The one they say smell. The one who is 12 years old and always play with the little kids. The one who is so easily tricked into doing stupid things. The one who always talks about the dead. You know him? He is not here anymore. A heartbreaking story told uncompromisingly through the main character; Alvis with his limited language and his own worldview. A novel for young adults and adults about a child who is not being seen and who is not given any room. From the author’s foreword: … I do not know what’s happened before the book begins, nor what happens after it ends. But I do know one thing: Whatever a child is subjected to, it is never the children’s fault. The adults are always in the wrong. Remember that. And remember that this is not a true story.
About the author Bjørn Ingvaldsen made his debut in 1995 with a collection of short stories for adults. Since then he has written several books for children and adults. His books for children have been translated into Danish, French, German and Italian.
