Hi, I’m Gyuri!
I am a curious, solution oriented landscape architect. I am working as a consultant, delivering architectural and landscape architectural design for companies and individuals. I specialize in design that supports the location specific human act, softly integrated to the natural systems in respect of local flora and fauna. My mission is to deliver spatial planning solutions, focused for local needs, that requires little human intervention in maintenance, thus the plan fits in with the ecological, economic and social goals of sustainability. I work best, when I can be part of a team where we all put our various skillsets in use to the betterment of our built and natural environment and a truly sustainable development of rural and urban living. My dream is to be able to bring into practice the spirit and heritage of Alvar Aalto, hence “ ... every product of architecture should be a fruit of our endeavor to build an earthly paradise.”

HOSPITAL PARK
PUBLIC PARK & HEALING GARDENS Creating the tender work for the regional superhospital involved an international team effort. The architectural work aimed hihg in climate resilient, carbon friendly consturction while trying to make sense the complicated and large plan. In our proposal we crafted a healing garden, while carefully assessing space, understanding stakeholders, and focus on the very specific needs. Designed an accessible sanctuary including calming water features, sensory-rich plants, and peaceful areas for relaxation. Prioritizing safety, sustainability, and community involvement ensured continual improvement, creating a therapeutic space for patients, visitors, and staff. Collaborating with different offices to create the proposal meant a unique experience for all of us.

POCKET PARKS
URBAN REWILDING WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES Taskumets is an innovative initiative developed in partnership with Tallinn Strateegiakeskus as part of the European Green Capital 2023 program. Its primary purpose is to increase public awareness regarding environmental sustainability. Rather than using square meters as a measurement, the project employs a parking lot size, which is a relatable, easily replicable, and scalable unit. Within these units, various surfaces are depicted. Showcasing diverse plant species, an abundance of pollinators, and restored soil. The overarching objective is to create a thriving and enriched ecosystem.

Urban rewilding | Selected works
Taskumets (Pocketforest) and Aiateraapia (Garden theraphy) both serve as urban acupuncture projects. Designed for the European Green Capital program in collaboration with Tallinn Strategic Center. Chosen from numerous applications, these projects exemplifies the collaborative efforts of local communities, showcasing a notably positive impact. Its innovative Urban Rewilding concept makes it unique among other pocket parks and urban interventions. Notably, its ability to scale and be replicated is enabled by the standardized size of its parking lot units and a construction approach that doesn’t require heavy machinery, excavation, or specialized skills.

DOWNTOWN PROMENADE OPEN SPACE DESIGN COMPETITION - 3rd price
Our proposal aims to uplift public consciousness by nurturing a vibrant atmosphere for architectural and urban excellence. Our goal was to establish a secure and alluring environment that harmonizes with development densities and urban norms. To underscore our human centric approach, we designed an internal network of streets. These streets accommodate through-traffic while prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists, interlinking significant locales and destinations. Downtown Promenade | Selected works
The ecological approach aims to create a multifunctional outdoor oasis on a 20-hectare site with minimal elevation variations. Integrating the healthcare facility with the natural environment, offering efficient walkways and cycle routes to enhance accessibility and mobility within the healthcare complex. The landscape design preserves the site’s unique identity while introducing new functionalities, including playgrounds, a japanese zen garden, market space and central multifuntional plaza. The circular shape is to ruther express the unity, it can serve the 33 000 inhabitants of Saku. The bigger room offers a safe space for various events including the years biggest celebrations with the midsummer eve great fire as well as the winter celebrations with the christmas tree and ice rink.

PUBLIC PARK OVER PROSPECTIVE HIGHWAY The proposed Danube bridge along the Galvani Bridge line aims to connect South Buda, South Pest, and North Csepel, alleviating downtown traffic and improving travel times. However, its necessity contrasts with the potential drawbacks for locals. How can we ensure the best outcome for all parties involved? The feasibility study, conducted in collaboration with Garten Studio, was developed for the city of Budapest. It delves into the details of integrating a 2 by 2 lane highway—Budapest’s new ring road—into the existing family-friendly neighborhood. The study aims to maintain and enhance the existing major green area, the Little Forest Park. This proposed integration seeks to create a harmonious balance between urban development and preserving the area’s natural landscape.

Galvani Bridge | Selected works
The current site stands out as the primary green space within the area. Although its biodiversity isn’t particularly high, the presence of older trees and a sizable contiguous green area renders this space distinct within the neighborhood. Other major recreational parks are situated at a considerable distance from here. In determining the highway’s location, the most practical solution involved aligning its axis parallel to the existing tramline. This alignment forms an important part of the site’s renovation and urban revitalization plans. This development presents an opportunity to revitalize the presently neglected areas by introducing new amenities such as playgrounds and sports facilities. The landscape design objectives prioritize maintaining the site’s unique character while building connections between the surrounding neighborhoods.

SPORT COMPLEX
BIM POWERED LANDSCAPE ENGINEERING The project is situated within mountainous terrain characterized by thin topsoil and predominantly rocky soil. Arranging the multifunctional hall, sportsfields, swimming pool, and establishing connecting access roads presented significant challenges in both planning and construction phases. Our primary focus was on seeking an environmentally friendly solution within budget constraints. The landscape architectural plan recommends the use of various water-sensitive design tools. These tools include green roofs, open-bottomed drainage ditches, rain gardens (seasonal stormwater retention basins), and permeable surfaces to facilitate infiltration. We used different models to identify water flow patterns and used BIM in drainage system planning.

The entire complex had only one output position for both waste and rainwater. With the use of BIM in collaboration with building engineering team we created a wide range of sustainable solutions for managing water resources, incorporating practices like rainwater harvesting, retention ponds, or permeable surfaces. The rainwater was collected from paved surfaces, behind retetion walls and the 1800 m2 green roof.

MILLENIUM GARDENS GREEN ROOF & MODULAR BLOCK SYSTEM
Detailed construction drawings were created for the development of open spaces and green roofs complementing the office complex. The ground floor public space primarily serves as a public park and structurally as a parking garage roof. Various technical aspects such as rainwater collection, air ventilation, supporting columns, and provisions for firetruck access had to comply with rigorous building codes, including those governing UNESCO protected areas. I had the opportunity to craft a sculptural piece that emulates the iconic facade of the building. The recycled concrete walls for the flower beds were custom-made specifically for this project.

Designing on roofs The design solution includes a sizable cast-in-place concrete slab that serves as a rainwater harvesting tray. Ensuring a minimal incline of 1.5 - 2% was crucial for effective drainage. The entire geometry of the ground level concrete slab under the walkable green roof was created using BIM tools. PLANNING COMPETITION ENTRY - 2ND PRICE The architectural competition aimed to unearth the mosteffective planning and construction strategies for the interconnected central properties and the contiguous public urban space, strategically located at the core of Pärnu. The competition required participants to analyze and conceptualize the urban space within the Designated area, considering the block’s central position in the city and the overall urban landscape. The primary objective was aligned with Pärnu’s vision of fostering a vibrant urban environment that seamlessly integrates with the street space.

Our proposal strives to achieve a design that is as close to carbon-neutral as possible. With the exception of the basement and certain load-bearing structures, our design primarily utilizes cross-laminated timber. We integrated the historical layer of the old railway into the landscape design by incorporating a light ribbon in place of the old tracks and utilizing repurposed railway sleepers for our outdoor furniture.

Embracing its northern location amidst the expansive boreal forests and lakes, this family dwelling epitomizes a haven for recreation. Nestled just an hour away from the Finnish capital, the dilapidated lake house will be replaced with a new, environmentally conscious, CO2-neutral, prefabricated wooden house. The new structure not only harmonizes with the local ambiance but also aligns with the environmental objectives, blending the essence of the existing structure with the innovation of the new. Emphasis is placed on preserving the native flora, with no intention of felling trees on the site.

Symbolism and longevity is embodied by the timeless materials within the traditional wooden house that holds traces of Japanese architecture and expressing the fine and practical woodwork typical to the area. In the landscaping the rock garden and azalea clusters like bridges carry these worlds. The interventions accentuate the local essence with minimal land alterations, maintaining a balanced landmass index. Well-defined spatial functions cater to parking, recreation, playing, and gardening zones.
