Expo-sitio Exposition of a Site Through Narration Minjae Kim, Randy Armas, Camille Esquivel and Melinda Martinus
Armas, Esquivel, Kim, Martinus
Our proposal is named Expositio, which is derived from the latin word narration. In addition it becomes a contemporary compound of ‘expo’ and ‘sitio’. The former refers to ‘exposition’, both the explanation of an idea and a large public exhibition exposing goods and more ideas. The latter becomes ‘site’ when translated from the spanish word ‘sitio’, which relates our spatial idea to a context, a city, an anthropological method to understand both the geospecific location and its contents. In this way, we believe that narration and storytelling are powerful design and educational tools to imagine and to curate the future of an individual or a community of individuals. Our proposal seeks to provide the people of Lisboa with spaces in the form of a film workshop and a community theater, so that between those two platforms we would trigger the community to document its identity,
empower its members, increase their community visibility and establish a collective vision for their future. Our proposal physicalizes in the form of an inhabitable and tectonic bridge. It links both sides of the Bogota river; Bogota City (at the Lisboa location) and the province of Cundinamarca. As one keeps going up the bridge the program becomes more film and theater oriented until one reaches the top level which another form of public space high enough to reflect and look out to Lisboa and one’s innermost aspirations. The maximun output of the project is the creation of a film festival. The film festival gets expressed by the deployment of a screen – on the north side of the bridge – of big enough magnitude as to be seen from a considerable distance.

The program is aligned with our beliefs and visions in how we combine artistic production and distribution. Inside it we have the organs of theater and filmmaking; a film set, movable parts that increase the size of performance spaces
or convert study areas into performance stages. The majority of the bridge’s interior is a collection of a variety of spaces that morph, which allows for the appropriation of the artifact.

ยก Paseando Ollas ! looks for how excluded people and spaces can be identified by local residents through cultural practices such as food, helping the group to resettle in the community, regain the ability to utilize and contribute to every dimension of economic, social, cultural activities in the society. Food is about sharing, community and hospitality, an international language that is not spoken, but rather tasted and felt. The project is designing an kitchen hub along the riverside edge, proposing a framework hosting mobile kitchens with
different identities. Each mobile kitchen responds to a specific community in the neighborhood. During the weekdays, it travels to the correspondent area, interacting with the respective group through culinary arts. On the weekends, the mobile kitchens bring different local communities to the hub along the river side, inviting communal events with light and music to celebrate as a whole. In addition, the river, which is now very contaminated and inactivated, has the potential to provide water transportation that delivery supply early in the mornings.

Los Comelones New Bogotá Recycling Narratives Arianna Deane + Andrea Chiney + Erick Pietraszkiewicz
Chiney, Deane, Pietraszkiewicz
“Los Comelones” seeks to improve upon existing economic and spatial systems of the local grassroots recycling industry in Suba, Bogota. Understanding the impact of the recycling process on the pollution of public space and the river, the project builds upon the assets of social networks and skills of the recyclers, and tradition of auto-construccion, to transform the industry. Los comelones, devices which improve efficiency of collection and transportation of recyclables, are introduced through a folklore to raise awareness about the issue. As opposed to draconian policy, the project introduces a cultural movement to change the social
dynamics between the stigmatized recyclers and the rest of the city, while reframing the public understanding of recycling. The process becomes an event at multiple scales throughout the city, from collection to parades, and material fairs. In tandem with los comelones, a proposed series of workshops along the Rio Bogota creates an education platform and vehicle through which the recyclers can increase the value of their skills. By processing, and transforming collected recyclables into more valuable building materials, the workshops provide an alternative to an unstable economic situation.

▲ The pilot workshop dedicated to the transformation of plastics, is situated adjacent to the proposed linear park along the Bogota River, combining public and working spaces. The open frame layout allows for ease of accessibility and visibility, with a bridge like structure supporting paths and soft nets that extends the linear park into the workshop and connects the workshop back to the riverfront. The ground level is designed as a constructed landscape that facilitates a variety of public uses, including the “Comelon Celebration” at the end of bimonthly parades, preparations for “Carnaval” and a day to day neighborhood play space.

River Cloud Building New Imaginaries with the Community Saadia Lone, Tatiana Kopelman Martin, Wesley Rhodes, Mengying Tang
Lone, Martin, Rhodes, Tang
The concept of the project is to design a mechanism which takes advantage of the water source(river) , to generate new relationships with the River. The River has been ignored by its neighbours and the city itself, the project aims to interact with this ignorance a generate a positive change The design process includes the collection of water into a filtration cloud which then dispenses water to create micro experiences aboard the bridge. With the help of the existing recyclers new and changing water projects can be assembled aboard the bridge for people to interact with as the cross from point A to B. The experiences are small mechanisms to associate positive affects through the use of the filtered water. Combined with the programmatic flexibility of the bridge, it can be converted into a classroom to educate the people and children about keeping the river clean and how that in turn produces a better environment for them . The bridge has a mechanism of curtains on rails. These curtains allow for the transformation of the space into a more compact social space for gardening classes or educa-
tive classes. The water from the filtration cloud seminates the landscape on the edges of the dyke as it manouvers along the river. This allows the people of Lisboa and those who come to the river to experience the physical changes in the landscape by reusing and cleaning the water from the “dirty river . The second aspect of the project is the semination of cultivable landscapes around the river . To give the people of Lisboa control over their food resources and food independence. Also to cultivate a more communal interaction between the diverse peoples of the community. The water tanks along the river bank collect rain water which is then dispersed through the community gardens. It extends into the personal cultivating gardens aswell. In the mcro gardens, the community members can learn to grow new vegetables, fruits and flowers which are not possible in the lack of a controlled environment. These grown products can also be of commercial value.

La Ruta de la Diversidad Planning for Internal Displacement in Lisboa Yanling Deng, Andri Putri, Sebastian Ugas
Deng, Putri, Ugas
This project aims to draw the attention of Bogotans, in general, and Lisboans, in particular, to two difficult and unattended issues in Lisboa: the adaptation difficulties of Internal Displaced Persons (IDP) and the importance of the recovery of Bogota River. Six light structures built along the riverside will trace a route -La Ruta de La Diversidadwhich will have a double function related to both problems. First, hosting services to support IDP in the initial stages of their adaptation process and second, serving as an on-site learning platform regarding the environment, displacement and cultural diversity. While these problems require bigger scale policies and interventions, La Ruta de la Diversidad
will be a first step to -locally- make them more visible and trigger debate, ideas, research and proposals from residents, authorities and also academic institutions. The light structures or artifacts will replicate six distinct climates from Colombia regions which are the original hometown of many of the displaced people. By using the various climates and vegetation of Colombia, we aim to bring comfort to these displaced people while allowing them to spread their unique culture, educate the locals about their forgotten river and give a new understanding about the diversity in the neighborhood.
