There is so much to celebrate this month! Valentine’s Day is a great time to show that special someone how much you care. And as you take time to care for someone’s heart, remember to make the time to care for your own heart this month, which is American Heart Month. At Celebration Fitness Centre, we’re concerned about the health of your heart. That’s why we encourage each of you to maintain a healthy diet and to exercise daily. We also understand the importance of minimizing your stress levels. Our Day Spa is offering a Stress Fix Massage this month to help alleviate unwanted stress in your life, helping to keep your heart happy. Secondly, our e-Newsletter is your monthly source of updates, health and wellness tips, member success stories, and more! Group Welcome Fitness A TYPICAL CLASS Your BODYCOMBAT™ instructor will lead you through a series of moves from a range of martial arts, to a series of different music tracks. No equipment is needed for the class, just bring a towel, a water bottle and your inner warrior! Nutrition The Benefits of Eating Dark Chocolate

When it comes to eating dark chocolate, a little indulgence is good for your heart. This bittersweet candy contains ingredients that help to keep your ticker strong and protected against threatening conditions. The higher the percentage of cocoa contained in dark chocolate, the greater the benefits. And the more bitter, the better. While eating dark chocolate can lead to the health benefits described below, remember that chocolate is also high in fat and calories, so it’s good to practice moderation.

Dark Chocolate Helps Control Blood Sugar Dark chocolate helps keep your blood vessels healthy and your circulation unimpaired to protect against type 2 diabetes. The flavonoids in dark chocolate also help reduce insulin resistance by helping your cells to function normally and regain the ability to use your body’s insulin efficiently. Dark chocolate also has a low glycemic index, meaning it won’t cause huge spikes in blood sugar levels. Dark Chocolate is High in Vitamins and Minerals Dark chocolate contains a number of vitamins and minerals that can support your health, such as potassium, copper, magnesium and iron. The copper and potassium in dark chocolate help prevent against stroke and cardiovascular ailments. Dark Chocolate is Good for Your Heart Studies show that eating a small amount of dark chocolate two or three times each week can help lower your blood pressure. Dark chocolate improves blood flow by dilating the vessels and may help prevent the formation of blood clots. Eating dark chocolate may also prevent arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).

February is American Heart Month. No matter what form of cardio and strength routine you enjoy performing, they all share one thing in common: They all can help your heart! Building a regular, structured routine into your day will lead to a healthier heart and a better quality of life. Studies show that regular physical activity boosts mental and physical wellness and benefits our heart in many ways. Some are listed below: • • • • • • • •

Improves blood circulation, which reduces the risk of heart disease Improves blood cholesterol levels Prevents and manages high blood pressure Prevents bone loss Boosts energy level Helps manage stress Counters anxiety and depression Increases muscle strength, which increases the ability to do other physical activities • Reduces risk of stroke by 20 percent in moderately active people and by 27 percent in highly active ones

Yes, we are talking about long-term heart health and success, but its important to enjoy the time you spend exercising as well. If you don’t enjoy your workout routine, then it will be much harder to stick with it. Add variety to your routine; try a new class, meet with a trainer, or play a sport. Variety just may be what you need to jump start a new routine.

One of the biggest obstacles to staying fit is time. However, when it comes to the health of your heart, exercise should be a priority. It is important for you to set aside the time to

Make the Time

Remember, you don’t have to be ready to dive into an hour of training your first day. Start slow and build upon your success. Something I am fond of saying is, “You can’t run the whole race your first day of training.” If you have a goal of racing a 5K then start with walking or a walk/jog program for 15-20 minutes and build on that each day you train.

Wearing comfortable clothes and shoes is a necessity when working out. Your clothes should be flexible enough to allow you to move and bend freely, and not restrict your movements. Also be sure to select the right type of shoes for the type of exercise you’re performing. Running, walking and cross-training all require different types of shoes.

Working Out Helps My Work Out ..................................... Celebration Fitness Centre is for everyone. The buff ďŹ tnesslover, the committed athlete, and the busy worker who is constantly juggling their career, family and health. Elujina Noda Moncada joined for the latter reason. For Elujina, Celebration Fitness Centre helps her to maintain a work-life balance and stay on the path to health and wellness.


MemberWelcome Spotlight Elujina, affectionately known as Vicky, has been a member for two years, while employed as a Patient Care Tech at Florida Hospital Celebration Health where the gym is located. In spite of her busy work schedule, she still makes time to exercise everyday on her lunch break because her health matters to her.

“With two teens at home, I don’t have much time to do anything after work,” she said. “I just take part of my 30-minute break to take care of myself.” For about 20 to 25 minutes, Vicky makes sure that she gets her daily dose of cardio on the elliptical. Her incentive for staying committed is the option to watch TV while working out, which she especially enjoys. “I like watching the news on my break,” she said. She also appreciates that the staff understands that she only has a limited amount of time to get in and out of the fitness center. “The front desk always knows that I’m in a hurry. They know that I have only 20 minutes to work out,” she said.

All Employees on the Celebration Health Campus can visit the Celebration Fitness Centre on Thursdays, starting February 1st, to pick up your gym punch card. Then, stop by ANY 5 days you choose, any time, to workout for FREE. To help you keep track, our friendly staff will punch your card each time you visit. It’s that’s simple!
