Our story...
The 3Camps flyfishing experience gives anglers the opportunity to fish on three of the Gaspe Coast’s most well-known and productive Atlantic salmon rivers. Thanks to a steadfast commitment to conservation and sustainable management practices, this region remains one of Atlantic Canada’s most sought-after fishing destinations. With pristine waters framed by breathtaking natural beauty, these rivers provide a unique and unforgettable setting for salmon fishing.
In 1993, a group of four avid Canadian fishermen purchased a piece of secluded property near the river and began the construction of Camp Bonaventure. By the time the fishing season started in 1995, Camp Bonaventure was ready to welcome its first guests. This premium fishing lodge soon attracted anglers from all over because of its reputation for comfort, good food, the expertise of the local guides, and the prospect of having an unforgettable fishing adventure.
Salmon Lodge is one of the legendary fishing camps on the Grand Cascapedia River. It was built by Benjamin Douglass J.R. a lawyer from Bedford, New York who first came to the river in 1891. After several years of fishing, he bought a piece of property overlooking the river and built Camp Douglass-Beck in 1901. The camp was later sold to William Bonbright from New York, who changed the name to Salmon Lodge. Gustave Rainville bought Salmon Lodge in 1946 and after his passing, his son Sonny Messmore Rainville inherited the lodge with his brother Jacques. Sonny was a successful financier in New York, a former President of the New York Anglers Club and Director of the Atlantic Salmon Federation. In 2001, David Bishop, a well-known local fishing guide purchased Salmon Lodge and operated a guiding business from the lodge. Three years later, he sold it to the owners of Camp Bonaventure who completely renovated the historic old camp. Today thanks to their shared passion for angling, Salmon Lodge is once again one of the best salmon fishing destinations on the Grand Cascapedia River.
The Canadian Salmon Club on the Bonaventure was started by John Hall Kelly, a prominent lawyer and politician from the Gaspe Coast. In 1917 Kelly began to lease water rights from some of the local landowners. By 1919 he owned 16 km of fishing rights on the river and decided to start a salmon
fishing club. In 1923 the Canadian Salmon Club was officially incorporated and in 1924 The Club bought a piece of prime waterfront property overlooking the Bonaventure River. For more than a century the Canadian Salmon Club operated as a private fishing camp. The owners and their guests included politicians, lawyers, businessmen and owners of some of North America’s most well-known companies. In 2016 The Canadian Salmon Club was purchased by the owners of Camp Bonaventure and Salmon Lodge. This group restored and modernized the historic camp while preserving the charm and essence of the classic 100-year-old salmon club. It is now a part of 3Camps and for the first time in its history, it is open to the public. The Club situated on riverfront property, still retains ownership of its original fishing rights on the Bonaventure River.
At 3Camps, fishing guests can expect to be welcomed by a friendly and caring staff. Passionate about their local area, they will provide helpful tips and go above and beyond to meet guests’ needs, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable stay. The chef’s culinary offerings have become an integral part of the experience and a testament to the owner’s commitment to providing their guests with a varied menu of delicious homestyle cuisine and seasonal favourites.
The professional fishing guides willingly share their knowledge about the local waters including the best pools, flies, the behaviour of the salmon and the most effective techniques for catching them. Additionally, they often share insights on reading water conditions and improving casting skills, which enhances the overall fishing trip for both novice and experienced anglers. Once on the river, it’s the anticipation of the thrill of a tug on the line and the exhilarating fight that tests the skill and strength of both the salmon and angler.
Beyond the catch, a 3Camps salmon flyfishing adventure is about the camaraderie with fellow anglers, shared stories and laughter in relaxing and comfortable lodges. Their dedication to guest satisfaction turns a good trip into an unforgettable experience, making all anglers feel at home and eager to return.
