1st COURSE: New for 2017 is the first Glassotic: An Exhibition of Glass Wearable’s. We have selected a group of glass artists who create jewelry to offer a special exhibition during Habatat’s VIP Weekend. We expect this new event to be a fun addition to Habatat’s Annual Invitational. The weekend events also include our World Famous Masterworks Auction with historic works of the 70s and 80s from the collections of noted glass lovers Jean and Hilbert Sosin and Evelyn and Ralph Goldstein. The Auction event includes a strolling dinner and drinks. 2nd COURSE: Attendees will experience artist talks that will give us an insight into the future of studio glass. Among the artists attending will be Janusz Walentynowicz who will give a presentation on his evolution as an artist working in both Denmark and the Mid-West. A controversial panel discussion by noted artists and museum directors will follow the artist’s presentations. During the VIP opening weekend you will also partake in home tours, lunches, dinners, the VIP preview and more! 3rd COURSE: The 45th will feature a solo exhibition of Christina Bothwell and Robert Bender curated by Laura Cotton, director of the Alfred Berkowitz Gallery of the University of Michigan Dearborn. This exhibit will provide a retrospective and collaboration of both artist’s work. Following that exhibition will be a special local glass exhibit curated and hosted by husband and wife team Chris Nordin and Michelle Plucinsky at the Furnace Design Studio. This year’s theme NEXT provides a unique opportunity to explore each artist’s insight into the future. We will ask each artist to think of themselves as a futurist and to share their thoughts on where the world of glass art will be in 2042. Much like George Orwell’s novel 1984, published nearly sixty years ago, we are anticipating some wonderful fiction that may or may not become a reality. We have asked the participating artists to share their thoughts which will be published in the 45th International Glass Catalogue. DESSERT: All of these events lead up to the opening of NEXT: The 45th Annual International Glass Invitational which is attended by thousands of visitors and is the apogee of this art filled weekend. Join us in making a part of glass history!

Please RSVP today as space is limited.

Henry Ford Musuem of American Innovation and Greenfield Village The Henry Ford acquired the studio glass collection of Bruce and Ann Bachmann of Glencoe, Illinois in 2015. Numbering around 270 pieces, the Bachmann Collection is an encyclopedic history of the Studio Glass Movement. Every significant artist is represented by at least one work, many by several examples. Beginning in 1987, the Bachmanns collected retrospectively, consciously tracing the evolution of the Studio Glass Movement. Around 2010, the Bachmanns sought a permanent home for their collection. While other museums were interested in the Bachmann collection, it was The Henry Ford that garnered the collectors’ full attention and eventually their generous donation. “The Bachmanns had very specific criteria for their collection,” said Charles Sable, Curator of Decorative Arts, “They were looking for an institution that was in an urban area, preferably in the Midwest where they live, had a large visitation, and was capable of exhibiting and maintaining the collection. “As Bruce [Bachmann] told me, it was a good marriage. He felt his collection would live here in perpetuity," added Sable. The Henry Ford is made up of multiple venues, two of which are Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation and Greenfield Village. Both venues include permanent studio glass displays. The Museum exhibition, which opened in October 2016, details the story of studio glass from its beginnings in the Toledo Workshops, through recent work. Approximately seventy percent of the artwork is drawn from the Bachmann collection. Themes include, “Founding of Studio Glass,” European Influences,” “Emergence of Studio Glass,” “Studio Glass Comes of Age,” and “Anything is Possible”. As a history museum with a focus on innovation, resourcefulness and ingenuity, The Henry Ford examines the art and science of studio glass as well as considering the aesthetics. It also looks at studio glass as a cultural phenomenon and at how it has diffused into popular culture. The Greenfield Village experience will be housed in a former machine shop retrofitted into a state-of-the-art exhibit gallery. Designed by noted architect James Carpenter, the gallery will house portions of the Museum's expansive collection of historical American glass, from its beginnings in the colonial period through the mid-twentieth century. It will also house studio glass, drawn from the Bachmann collection. The Greenfield Village Gallery is located adjacent to the hot shop, where guests can view demonstrations of glass making throughout the day. Together, the gallery and hot shop will present the entire history of American glass production. The Henry Ford Musuem and Greenfield Village is looking forward to your visit during the 45th.
