In slightly misty weather, over 30 ladies gathered to celebrate the start of the tenure of the new lady captain Margaret Hills. It is a long standing tradition and event for the current lady captain (Emily Evans) to “putt out” on the 18th green with the new lady captain (Margaret Hills) overseeing that activity and then herself moving to the 1st tee to “drive off” to mark the start of her year as lady captain. The theme of the day (14th Feb) was Valentine’s day and Margaret had a huge number of lady players (dressed in red, with heart themed outfits) cheering her on and also trying to guess the length of her first tee shot (for a small fee which is donated to charity). The first drive went 126 yards and was straight!

Margaret is undertaking her second stint as lady captain having first done so in 2008. Margaret’s vice-captain is Sarah Woodhead and together they will co-ordinate golfing activity at Newton Green GC over the coming year (events include social golf, friendly matches, county competitions as well as close liaison with the mens section for mixed golf). Through the year Margaret is raising money for Multiple Sclerosis research.

Newton Green welcomes ladies new to golf and has bespoke coaching and integration activity in place, for more information visit www.newtongreengolfclub.co.uk (get into golf).
