Fantastic start for young cyclists
Hadleigh Cycling Club’s Go-Ride Race Day on 14th April was attended by 40 young riders, aged 4 - 13. Some riders even travelled from Earls Colne and Bury St. Edmunds. The coaching team ran sessions across several ability groups in the morning to help the children to improve on core cycling techniques, followed by an afternoon of mini races. The young riders left with smiles on their faces, British Cycling goodies, some even walked away with medals for their racing!
“We were truly delighted to have so many kids joining us for our season kickoff event. The Go-Ride Race Day was the catalyst to restart properly after the pandemic, it helps the club to re-engage the youngsters in our community, with opportunities to get started with their cycling journey as well as a channel into the sport.”, says Benson, the club’s secretary and coach. “We founded the club back in 2012 as a London Games legacy project to provide coaching opportunities for youngsters in our little market town and neighbouring villages. We’ve had 100s of youngsters through our regular coaching sessions and events over the years with handfuls of them competing across the cycling disciplines including MTB XC, Cyclocross, TT, Track, Road/Crit. Some of them have won regional titles, competed at National level events, as well as joining semi-professional teams”.
