Babergh Chairman raises thousands for Blossom Appeal
Babergh District Council Chairman, Cllr Kathryn Grandon, raised over £11,000 at a recent fundraising Civic Dinner… for a cause very close to her heart.
Cllr Grandon, who has undergone recent breast cancer treatment, raised £11, 136 for the Blossom Appeal – helping to fund a new Breast Care Centre at Ipswich Hospital.

The charity dinner last month saw 200 guests attend the Royal Hospital School for an evening of fun and fundraising.
Cllr Grandon said: “Thank you to all the guests, sponsors and helpers for their generous support. It was a wonderful event and being able to raise so much for this a fantastic cause was amazing and a lot of fun too.
At this time last year, I was recovering from my third breast cancer operation, so being able to support the work of the Blossom Appeal in this way has been an honour.
“I have been overwhelmed by the level of support this event has received. The contributions of time from the organising committee and the team has been fantastic.
Being able to raise over £11,000 in one night, is a fantastic response to the prizes donated by all our sponsors for some great raffle and auction prizes, including the star prize of a Valentines Night stay package at the Marquis Hotel, Upper Layham.
However, the evening was not just about raising funds. It was also about raising awareness and the importance of regular checks. The number of women I have met since the dinner that have told that they ‘have been checked’ has been really moving.”
Cllr Grandon will continue fundraising for her chosen charity for the remainder of her year in office. Anyone wishing to support her can find more information here - BMSDC Civic Office is fundraising for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity (justgiving.com)
