May Day in Greece 7th Primary School of Agii Anargyri
On 1st May, we celebrate May Day in Greece. The roots of this celebration are in the history of the Labour movement in Greece
May Day is considered a day of strike, because people do not go to work. However, it is customary to be paid.
People go on pic-nics to the country. They eat and play there. Finally, they collect flowers and make wreaths.
They hung the wreaths outside the doors or gates. They think that will bring them good luck.
In Greek, we say “ΚΑΛΗ ΠΡΩΤΟΜΑΓΙΑ” /kali protomagia/ It means HAPPY MAY DAY
