19 FOURTEEN

ORIGIN AND REINVENTION For the 19fourteen collection, we looked at our century-old roots in Dalarna for design inspiration. The result: a classically stylish collection which combines old-school elegance with the functionality and strength you expect from us. We know that there will be moments in your own adventure that you’ll want to keep with you forever. 19FOURTEEN recognises them.

Details and patterns are inspired by folk art from the region of Dalarna.

WIKTOR HAGLÖF In 1914, Wiktor Haglöf started making backpacks for farmers, lumberjacks and schoolchildren in Dalarna. Back then, he would deliver them by foot or by bike: driven by his hard work and inventive streak, it’s no surprise that his company blossomed. Now, his name is known worldwide, and it’s important that the products still bearing it retain his values of innovation, care, quality, and usefulness.

N A M E D A F T E R K RY L B O , D A L A R N A* or “Grand Central Station Dalarna” as we’re calling it from now on. Krylbo is part of an essential hub for the region’s transport, thanks to its well-known and starkly elegant train station, designed by Folke Zettervall, and its rail links to the rest of the country. It’s a city with a fine sporting tradition and a sense of strength, history and industry, making it more than just a place to travel through.

NAMED AFTER ORNÄS, DALARNA a little town which lends its name to the Ornäsbjörk (Ornäs birch) – the national tree of Sweden. This fine specimen of plant life was discovered here by Hans Gustaf Hiordt in the late eighteenth century, and these days it’s unsurprising to discover that Ornäs is still quite bosky. It also gives its name to the Ornässtugan – a cottage in which, the story says, King Gustav Vasa sheltered during his flight from Kristian II, and which was reconstructed centuries later for the Paris World Exhibition.

SÄRNA 20 A slim and attractive backpack to carry the daily essentials, the Särna 20 has two compartments, with a padded inner sleeve for a laptop. Leather detailing and aluminum trims complete the stylish look. 1100 SEK

N A M E D A F T E R S Ä R N A , DA L A R N A A petite village. Claimed from Norway by two hundred Swedes in 1644, although it took about a century for this to be officially recognised. Provides tourists with a popular entry point to the Fulufjället national park - home to lynx, bears and Sweden’s highest waterfall. Remarkable scenery abounds, although the village itself is more renowned for the kind of hardy and elegantly practical buildings that its stoic founders used to love back in the day.
