Happenings from the Chief Hurricanes in the Lowcountry, while quite rare, are certainly possible. In September, Hurricane Florence reminded us of how prepared our Haig Point staff and community are in potential emergency situations. On September 10th, equipped with the experience and lessons learned from Hurricanes Matthew and Irma, the team went into high gear before the governor ordered the mandatory evacuation. Upon notice of a threat, the Key Management Emergency Staff immediately gathered and subsequently directed their individual departments to begin implementing the Haig Point Hurricane Plan. By 5:35 PM the same day, we had determined a plan for the next few days and communicated the plan to our Members. Every day thereafter, the membership was updated of any changes to Club activities or to the ferry schedule by email, text and push notifications . The unpredictability and changing path of Florence required key staff to remain flexible and at the ready, and so they did. As Beaufort County was reported out of harm’s way, Haig

Point staff arrived at work to provide service to the Members who remained on property, of which there were many. The golf courses remained open, as did the General Store in the Mansion, and the Grill Room was opened for lunch on September 14th, all thanks to our employees. I want us all to acknowledge our incredible staff for their dedication to serve our members and for their commitment to our unique community. Thank you, Haig Point staff, you are the best, we could not be here without each and every one of you.

Haig Point's Wildlife Trail A NEW NATURE TRAIL AROUND THE COMMUNITY ENCOURAGES ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY AND IDENTIFIES WAYS TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT OUR NATURAL ISLAND HABITAT.
The Haig Point Environmental Committee is dedicated to guiding Haig Point toward the best sustainable practices. It encourages environmental responsibility and identifies ways to preserve and protect our natural island habitat. As a result of this, the idea of a nature trail was initiated. Many Members have contributed to the project including Tom Donahoe, who made the bird house frames, Wally Hoffman who stained them, Steve Humpherys and Tana Hoffman who provided content and pictures. Tim Richard's crew installed over a dozen of these markers strategically placed around Haig Point. Tana Hoffman, who has been working on this project for a while and is also working diligently to get HP approved as a certified fig

The Cocktail Class Wooden Boat Racing Association has its origins in the cottage racing clubs of the 1950s when small towns across the country were hosting outboard races for family built boats and stock outboards. By the mid 1960s however, cottage racing had all but disappeared as boats and engines became more sophisticated, expensive, faster and dangerous. But the memories of crowded waterfronts, old outboards and competitive races lingered, at least for a few families in the Northern Neck of Virginia in the Chesapeake Bay

Whiffle ball’s popularity was short-lived, however, because everyone wanted a sport that women and men could enjoy together. Bill had the answer. Bocci was the game. Bill was the organizer. It’s out of the mainstream and is a unique atmosphere.
Beth and Mike Finnegan were always supportive and helped me when I first started working here. I still consider them to be good friends. When I transferred from Golf to Marine, Duwan Johnson helped me with the transisition and taught me about marine mechanics. LaTonya Lewis was always so helpful keeping me straight with anything dealing with Human Resources. She was a blessing in the time that I’ve been here, she was great to work with.
What’s your fondest memory of Haig Point?

What Maggie didn't mention is that she loves a challenge and for her age, is one of our most tenacious riders. They’ve purchased a new boat to transport crew and are establishing office space and a staging area on the island. Each month we will address some of the various sales and marketing channels and how they are contributing to our overall success Zillow, Trulia and, Realtor.com Forming a real estate brokerage has allowed us to advertise and obtain leads from new sources. One of the most significant is Zillow, Trulia and Realtor.com. These are the three most popular real estate search websites in the U.S., allowing visitors to search for a residence within a specific area based on their criteria. Our team is now featured as either the listing agent or as an available Premier Agent on these websites. These platforms have afforded us a new channel for lead acquisition and allow us to provide residents with an opportunity to further promote their homes or lots.
