Happenings from the Chief Dear Member As 2019 comes to a close, I am pleased to report that Haig Point Club and Community has experienced one of the strongest financial years in recent history. We have achieved our annual financial budget objectives and we are ending the year $800,000 better than last year. Your Club-owned real estate company, Premier Properties by Haig Point, closed its first full year in business as the #1 selling agency at Haig Point. Our team represented 14 buyers for a total sales volume of over $6.5 million, 26% more than the next closest brokerage. Overall, Haig Point home sales continue to increase. The number of homes sold is up 13% year-overyear with a total sales price volume increase of 9.8%. Home sales prices per square foot have also increased by 4.2% in 2019. Both our Marine and Events Departments finished the year 55% ahead of budget revenue objectives.

One of the Club’s greatest accomplishments in 2019 was the adoption of new Governing Documents. These new Governing Documents were intended to simplify, clarify and make governing at Haig Point more efficient. Haig Point’s previous governing documents were written over thirty years ago and were amended countless times as our community evolved. The newly adopted Documents will foster both good governance and aid membership sales. I want to personally thank Silvia and Edward Hansell and the entire Legal Committee for their countless hours of work and significant contribution to the successful future of Haig Point. As I look forward to 2020, I have several ambitious goals for our Club. One main objective is to work toward achieving Golfweek’s Top 100 ‘Best Residential Courses’ ranking and to improve our current Golf Digest’s Top 20 ranking to be in the Top 15 ‘Best in State’ rankings by 2021. Increasing our rating will help our ability to sell

real estate and assure or continued success as a premier residential golf community on the East Coast. Another key objective of mine is to improve our roads and other infrastructure. We have several projects intended to enhance the Member experience and the overall beauty of Haig Point. A third key goal for 2020 is to be named one of the Top 20 ‘Best Places to Work in South Carolina.’ 2019 was our first entry year and we were awarded 42nd place and we were notably the only hospitality-focused organization to break the Top 100. This award will help us to recruit, attract and retain highly qualified staff. While our current high ranking represents a significant accomplishment, I believe that Haig Point is actually THE best place to work and that it is our staff who help make this such a unique and wonderful place to live. I believe we can achieve Top 20 status.
In summary, 2019 has been a very successful year for Haig Point. We have received national attention for our community and homes. We continue to showcase our special island lifestyle.
I wish each of you and your families a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.
DOUG EGLY

FROM THE GOLF PROFESSIONAL STAFF Hello! My name is Jay Garrick, your new Director of Golf, here at Haig Point. I’m so excited to be a part of the team and look forward to meeting each and every one of you. I have been a Golf Professional in South West Florida for the last 30 years. I have been fortunate to have been involved with multiple Senior Tour Events, and have worked with famous Golf Instructors such as Rick Smith and Hank Haney.
JAY GARRICK, PGA Director of Golf
jgarrick@haigpoint.com
My experience has afforded me the honor of Merchandiser of the Year for the South Florida Section PGA. I have also been nominated Teacher of the Year for the Southwest Chapter PGA.
Jay with his wife, Lisa, daughter, Krista, and son-in-law, Jake. In January, Jay will become a first-time grandad!
I look forward to bringing my expertise and knowledge to Haig Point and creating a fun and exciting atmosphere!! See you on the Campus!! - Jay
JAY’S TIP: PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT In order to become more consistent as a player, you must become more consistent in your fundamentals. Paying attention to your grip, aim, and posture are critical to achieve your goals in the game of golf. Spending quality time at the practice facility after your lesson will definitely contribute to becoming more consistent in all phases of your game. Good Golfing!
Assistant Director of Golf, Bailey Garrick

Hello there! I would like to thank everyone for their warm welcome as your new Head Golf Professional at Haig Point! I’m excited to join the team and be a part of this great community. Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, I have spent the last 15+ years of my golf career traveling and working at different facilities in Colorado and California. Most recently, I spent the past year and a half at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia doing primarily golf sales and operations. I look forward to getting to know the membership more and building long-lasting relationships! - John
JOHN MCLAUGHLIN, PGA Head Professional-Golf Sales Manager
jmclaughlin@haigpoint.com
JOHN’S TIP: WEIGHT TRANSFER When you transfer your weight with the swinging of the club at the beginning of the takeaway, you will set up a right side axis…a one-legged balance which now frees the left side to turn outward behind the golf ball. This not only gives more time for the club to get to the top of the backswing but also permits a good shoulder turn. It is as if the body is now “unlocked” and capable of turning when you are loaded on the right side—the ball/socket joint of the hip is now able to work easier.
John with his wife, Holly and boys Cayden, 8 , and Landon, 4.

Our horses typically get blanketed if the temperature is going to be below thirty degrees for an extended period. However, if the weather is rainy and cold we leave the horses in the warm and cozy barn because once the horses get wet it is harder for their winter coats to do their job.
The easiest way to ensure that our horses are warm and toasty is to provide lots of hay.
