Happenings from the Chief DOUG EGLY

Chief Executive Officer

Dear Member We are finally enjoying some nice weather after a severe winter. Last month we welcomed the better weather with the HPCCA Annual Meeting. The meeting was well attended as was the grand opening of our new Community Center located adjacent to the Equestrian Center. A festive reception was enjoyed by members as we dedicated the Center in honor of Joanne and Arthur Helmus, Haig Point members for over 20 years.

and perseverance, has Rachel accomplished her goal. Rachel first intended the center to be used as a bigger and better venue to provide Kids' Camps for Member’s children. As the project developed Rachel realized the Community Center could be used for much more. The building now holds a variety of classes: dance, fitness, painting; and is a gathering place for educational meetings and celebrations. It is a venue available to members desiring a casual and peaceful setting. The Center is available to rent, please contact Rachel at rallen@haigpoint.com or at 843.341.8191. I look forward to seeing everyone around the community as activities begin to pick up this month. See you at Happy Hour!

The Helmus Community Center was a vision Equestrian Director Rachel Allen created shortly after starting at Haig Point in 2015. With great patience

GARDEN PLOTS AVAILABLE All Haig Point members are welcome to join the Community Garden by getting their own garden plot. If interested in size, location, availability, and details, please call Tom Peterson at 616-3406964 (cell) or 843-341-3798 (home service much better than cell service!)

P.S. GG (Garden Girl) is over 25 now and has been in the garden crazily dressed as our scarecrow and for school bus children and others to enjoy as they go by. We can always use crazy seasonal outfits if you have them. Please leave them in Elizabeth Rogers or Sue Quarta’s cubbies.

Tennis LUCK OF THE IRISH ROUND ROBIN

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND ADULT CHAMPIONSHIPS

Friday, March 16th 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm The format for this event is a round robin where your partners and opponents are simply drawn out of a hat; your opponents and partners will be the “Luck of the Irish.”

April 6th - 8th This unique tournament features a simple flighted round robin format that will ensure you will play multiple matches in one day. In the mornings, men’s and women’s doubles will be played; mixed doubles will be played in the afternoon. In between, a delicious lunch will be served by the pool. Players with a 3.0 NTRP rating will compete on Friday, April 6th. The 3.5’s will play on Saturday, April 7th. The 4.0 players battle it out on Sunday, April 8th.

Click HERE to register for the event.

CLEAN AND SIMPLE Hitting a simple, clean forehand is a thing of beauty, but how often do we really feel we have hit a solid ball? Take a look at the picture of Sarah Ferreira hitting a world-class forehand and you will see one of the secrets. She is doing a lot of great things here: left arm extending for balance, hips lowered, and head is still and relaxed. But pay attention to her racquet position and see how the face of the racquet is closed. This is the “petting the dog” position. By closing the face, it’s a good bet her racquet face will be perpendicular and stable on contact.

MARCH HOME LEAGUE SCHEDULE The Haig Point Tennis Center is home to some of the most exciting tennis action as we host Spring USTA League matches. The Ride 'N Wine is designed with any level or rider in mind, allowing a calm and confidence-building experience while socializing with our wonderful fellow members and their guests. Many of our current students started out with just a Ride 'N Wine. Hors d'oeuvres and wine of your choice follow the ride. We promise to get you home by dinner but you may enjoy the company and conversation so much that you will want to stay! Call the Equestrian Center
