UNDER PRESSURE The scoreboard can apply a lot of pressure to even the most seasoned player. One tactic often used by the pros is to imagine the score is reversed: instead of being down a break, imagine you are up a break. Reversing the score is a great trick if you have a tendency to tighten up on break points or when serving for the match. This is particularly helpful if you play on the ad side and have a tendency to miss returns on break points. Break points are chock-full with pressure. If you keep missing the return on break point, tell yourself it's the opponent's ad and not a break point. If you are able to convince yourself, this should relive the pressure. It takes practice so don't despair if it doesn't happen right away.
