Happenings from the Chief DOUG EGLY

Chief Executive Officer

September. I encourage you to continue to enjoy the Club’s amenities during this month. For those of you who have not had the opportunity to experience our Equestrian amenities, I strongly recommend a Ride N Wine excursion or a horse drawn carriage ride. Please contact Rachel Allen our Equestrian Director to schedule. rallen@haigpoint.com or 543.341.8191.

"Since last month,

Dear Member On August 21, the Haig Point IV set off with 78 members to watch a total eclipse of the sun occurring in North America. Those in the stretch between Salem, Oregon and Charleston, South Carolina witnessed the path where the moon completely covers the sun and the sun’s tenuous atmosphere – the corona. Food and drink were enjoyed by all during this unforgettable experience on the Calibogue Sound. Haig Point Happy Hours just became better! Since last month, members and guests have been enjoying the beautiful new Beach Club deck facing the sound. We have received an overwhelming amount of appreciation for this enhancement.

members and guests have been enjoying the beautiful new Beach Club deck facing the sound." As always, on behalf of myself and the entire staff, it is our pleasure to serve you.

Doug Egly, CEO

New cart paths have been completed with the exception of the area between Hole 5 and 6 and the section around the Clubhouse. The path between Hole 5 and 6 is on hold until the revetment along Hole 5 has been completed. The Clubhouse section will be finished the first two weeks in October during over seeding of the golf course.

Haig Point is proud to participate in:

The long awaited Haig Point Community Dog Park is close to becoming a reality! This facility will be a real asset to the community. It will be a place where dogs can socialize and exercise, and members can meet other members. We want it to be a first class facility and we will be seeking your generous member contributions and support for construction, agility equipment, seating, and screen plantings. The Board has generously granted an area for the dog park on the west side of the Community Park. The space provides both sun and shade and is already maintained by the Club. Fresh water will be available. The ARB has approved preliminary recommendations and much research has gone into the details to make the most of our space constraints. The plan is to have the park entirely funded by voluntary member contributions ONLY and to proceed with implementation as rapidly as possible.

We are awaiting cost proposals for fencing, agility items, furniture, and landscaping. Soon we will be able to accept member cash contributions. In the meantime, we are ready to accept written PLEDGES. Please send your generous pledge as soon as you can so that work can begin. You may contact Wanda Barquero with your pledge amount at 843.341.8178 or wbarquero@haigpont.com. We are also discussing how to acknowledge and recognize special donors who contribute $500 - $1,000 or more. Other ideas about fundraising are cheerfully accepted. We would love to have enough member financial support to complete the Park ASAP. Stay Tuned--!! Details coming soon!! Bill Tait Mark Ettinger Nalini Ravi Kate Woodward

GOLF TIP OF THE MONTH "Flippiness" (the dreaded early release) Flippiness occurs if your body gets too far in front of the golf ball. When this happens, your club will drastically lag, usually with an open face. Instinctually, your hands will work to close the face at impact. This level of timing is difficult even for the pros to execute on a consistent basis. What usually happens is the clubhead races in front of the shaft and strikes the ball with an open or a closed face, and typically on an ascending arc. In baseball, if you get too far in front, you'll hit the ball to right field, unless you flip the wrists. The same is true in golf. You need to establish a firm left side to keep your head behind the ball and stop the flip

Equestrian

s summer comes to a close, I am happy to report that we had several successful and fun-filled weeks of camp activity for young riders, artists, and outdoor enthusiasts. We were delighted to be able to host many of your family members and guests. Please mark your calendars for camps next year starting July and running until August. Check out some of our memories below! I would also like to remind you of some upcoming events we are hosting this Fall/Winter season at the Equestrian Center. First, we are excited to hold our Fall Schooling show this November (date to be announced) which will coincide with

our Pig Roast which is to be held in our new and exciting multiple-purpose building. We also will be offering a Native American Horsemanship Clinic the week before and after Thanksgiving (November 14th & 15th and November 21st & 22nd). We have options both for children and adults. We are also excited to host our Deck the Stalls event in which teams compete for the most creatively-decorated stall with prizes and awards given at our December reception. For pricing and information on our services, please call 843341-8191 or e-mail, rallen@haigpoint.com.
