If interested in size, location, availability, and details, please call Tom Peterson at 616-3406964 (cell) or 843-341-3798 (home service much better than cell service!) or Elizabeth Rogers at 614-440-0482.
As most of you know, Chef Jim has left our Haig Point family. We held a going away party on March 18th where members were able to send him off with best wishes. There has been much interest in the executive chef position and we are working diligently to find our next chef. We have interviewed several outstanding candidates and have sampled great food. We plan to secure someone in the next few weeks. One of the first areas of focus for the new chef will be to create new menus for all of our restaurant venues.
at home on Haig Point. There are many events planned for the season; we have Heritage week to look forward to this month; and we plan to add Monday Night Pizza and bar service at the Mansion beginning April 16th!
It is a very exciting time for our community, we have accomplished much and we will steer toward greater success this year.
We are excited to welcome spring and we look forward to welcoming members returning to enjoy warmer weather

Helmus Community Center F RO M I D E AT I O N TO D E D I C AT I O N
The Helmus Community Center was a vision of Equestrian Director Rachel Allen shortly after she started at Haig Point in 2015. With great patience and perseverance, her goal has been accomplished. Rachel first intended the center to be used as a venue for the Equestrian Department’s Kids’
Camps, weeklong day camps ranging in interests and open to all Members’ families. As the project developed, Rachel realized the Community Center, located adjacent to the Equestrian Center and Community Garden, could be used for much more. The center is a true community
center in that it is used for a variety of gatherings. Currently there are painting, dance and fitness classes, conservancy discussions and educational presentations. The Community Center has been named after Joanne and Arthur Helmus, Haig Point Members since 1996. For over 20 years Mr. Helmus has been an advocate for Haig Point. He has helped build our community in numerous ways. His kind demeanor and positive attitude are infectious. Dedication of the Helmus Community Center took place after the Annual Meeting and around 100 residents attended to surprise the Helmus family and enjoy a festive reception.
The Helmus Community Center is a venue available for members to rent who desire a casual and peaceful setting.

Francesca and Andy High As a team building event while with the Orlando hospital system, Francesca and her colleagues had scheduled a cooking class at Emeril’s Orlando. It was scheduled on the very day that Andy had “teaching duty.” According to Francesca, who does not like to cook, “When a very tall, good-looking guy came out in an apron, I knew I was going to like the class.” Andy says he always preferred being in the kitchen over
being at the front of a classroom but when he saw this bright-eyed blond sitting in the front row, he knew he was going to enjoy teaching this class. Within three months Cupid’s arrow had pierced their hearts and they were married 6 months later. Over the next few years, their lives took on the typical routine of newlyweds. Andy went back to banking and Francesca stayed in health care. Both worked long days as they advanced in their professional
careers and began to build a family. Eventually they moved to Charlotte, NC, where family building brought the birth of twin sons, Quinlan and Thearon, followed two years later by daughter Aaralyn. (The names are fig. 05

When the school bus drops the kids off at 3:30 PM, both Andy and Francesca greet them at the front door. Joan and Mike Mitzner
“There is only one
Joan and Mike Mitzner had no idea what was ahead of them when they decided to make Haig Point their permanent home. The golf industry is quite small and those who stay in it get to know almost everyone. Such it was that Mike Mitzner and Doug Egly became friends and, over the years, they would occasionally visit one another. That’s how Mike found Haig Point. But let’s start from the beginning. When Mike graduated from University of Oklahoma, his first job was as an assistant golf professional for ClubCorp in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. While there, he entered their Club Management Training Program. After several years in club management, his entrepreneurial spirit nudged him to step out on his own and buy a golf course in Fort Worth, TX, which he managed and then sold, only to repeat this

process several times. The next step in Mike’s career was made for him when his imagination was captured by a sprawling piece of beautiful property. Perhaps it was the location. Perhaps it was the lone coyote that he saw crossing the ridge. Mike decided to buy that very piece of land and build a golf course. He named it Coyote Ridge. In a matter of a few short years, his club was experiencing heavy play. A community had grown up around it and both the elementary school and the real estate development were named Coyote Ridge. This was a busy time in Mike’s life but not too busy to fall in love.
Mike was immersed in running his finance company and Joan had a very successful private counseling practice. Mike had just returned from visiting Haig Point. He told Joan about just sitting at the window, mesmerized by the natural beauty, the water, and the silence. He confessed that he had always wanted to move to the Hill Country of Texas but was changing his mind. Joan, who had always loved the water, enthusiastically supported his

new thoughts. Both wanted to find a beautiful place where their children and grandchildren would be excited about coming to visit. On their next trip to Haig Point, Joan’s first, she immediately understood what Mike was feeling. Within days, they started looking at houses and making plans to move. On subsequent visits, they started to “live” the Haig Point life style – walking on the beach, listening to the silence, making new friends and just plain relaxing. There was no doubt - Haig Point was where they belonged. Getting there was still a road unchartered.

“THE FIRST KEY” TO HITTING BETTER SHOTS “Da Fus Kie” to hitting a great shot is a solid and responsive ready position. A great ready position does one thing: it allows you to move in the quickest and most efficient way possible. There are three elements of a great ready position: 1. Wide Base – The base should be wider than your shoulders. The wider your base, the lower your center of gravity. 2. Hands in front – The hands should be away from the body. Don’t make the mistake of putting your hand on your belly button. 3. Racquet head above your hands – The weight of the racquet is in the head; the racquet will be more maneuverable if the weight is above the base (your hands) and not below.

With the recent dedication of the Helmus Community Center, we are enjoying much Springtime activity both in the barn and in our new space! It is exciting to see the days filled with all kinds of fun and educational programs and classes both at the Community Center and Equestrian Center. Please remember to check the Club Calendar for upcoming camps, Ride ‘N Wines, and other activities. With that said, I would like to introduce our new staff members and horse that you will meet upon your visits. -Rachel Allen
If you are considering making horseback riding a part of your lifestyle here on the island, we encourage you to sign up for that first lesson! We have horses for all levels of riders and we would not want anyone to miss out on this unique amenity here at Haig Point.
For pricing and reservations, please email rallen@haigpoint.com or call the Equestrian Center at 843-341-8191.

S PRI NG HAPPENI NG S | HA I G P OIN T Real Estate Marketing Update By Adam Martin
Spring
M A R K ET I N G U P D AT E Haig Point has had a record start to the year. Property sales and values are up considerably. The chart below gives you a historical analysis of sales through the first two months. Haig Point home sales rank second among low country private communities, slightly behind Long Cove, and ahead of Belfair, Wexford, Oldfield, Berkeley Hall, and Colleton River. Also encouraging is the uptick in young families. 26% of new members and their spouses who joined in 2016 and 2017 are under the age of 55, with the chart below detailing the trend. One of the demographics in our Haig Point Marketing Plan is young families who are in actively working or in a pre-retirement stage. The focus on digital media like email marketing, and search engine advertising, along with capital improvements to our internet and amenities are attracting younger families to Haig Point. As we continue to expand our marketing efforts we are working to identify strategic partners. One of our newest marketing partners is Lighthouse Realty in Harbour Town. We have installed a 42” touch screen kiosk in their Harbour Town office. The interactive tour (haigpoint.com/360) virtually teleports users across the sound so they can experience Haig Point. The technology is also available in the Haig Point Welcome Center so that prospective buyers taking a tour of Hilton Head homes can stop in and get a taste of our community. In addition, 250,000 visitors that climb the iconic Harbour Town Lighthouse each year will view Haig Point informational boards on the third floor, and read about the community while atop the Lighthouse staring across at our idyllic island home.
