Summer at Haig Point: Embrace the Island Life

Summer is in full swing at Haig Point, and it’s the perfect time to relax and immerse yourself in all the wonderful activities our island has to offer. Whether you’re a long-time resident or a visitor, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during these warm, sunny days.

Beach Bliss and Outdoor Fun

Start your day with a leisurely stroll along our pristine beaches, where the sound of the waves and the feel of the sand between your toes create an ideal setting for relaxation. For the more adventurous, horseback riding along the shoreline offers a unique way to experience the natural beauty of Daufuskie Island.

Golf and Pickleball Galore

Golf enthusiasts can take advantage of our world-class courses, perfect for a morning round or an afternoon of friendly competition. If you’re looking for a fast-paced, exciting activity, pickleball is a fantastic choice. Our courts are always buzzing with activity, and it’s a great way to meet new friends and stay active.

Fourth of July Festivities

One of the highlights of the season is our Fourth of July celebrations. Be sure to

check the calendar for the times and locations of all the exciting events we have planned. From parades to fireworks, it’s a week filled with patriotism and fun for the whole family.

Important Notice: Back Gate Monitoring

Please note that for the safety and security of all residents and guests, the back gate will be heavily monitored throughout the summer. All guests must be appropriately registered to ensure smooth entry and exit. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Upcoming Road Resurfacing in August

As we look ahead to August, please be aware that road resurfacing will begin during this month. Safety is our top priority, so we ask that everyone follows the directions of the traffic control crew to ensure a smooth and safe process. We will keep you updated on the progress of the work through regular postings.

Website Updates

We are pleased to announce that our website has been updated. If you notice any missing or incorrect information, please bring it to our attention. Your feedback helps us maintain accurate and useful resources for our community.

To stay up to date on club happenings, be sure to read the "Your Week Ahead at Haig Point" email sent out on Monday mornings.

Embrace the summer spirit and make the most of everything Haig Point has to offer. Whether you’re soaking up the sun, engaging in sports, or participating in our special events, we’re glad you’re here to share in the joys of Daufuskie Island.

LOCAL SPOTLIGHT

HAIG POINT COMMUNITY GARDEN

Exploring this Tranquil Haven

Tucked away near the Equestrian Center and Helmus Community Center, lies a hidden gem known as the Haig Point Community Garden. This quaint garden oasis not only serves as a gathering place for residents but also fosters a deep sense of community spirit and sustainable living.

A Green Haven Amidst Coastal Beauty

The Haig Point Community Garden is more than just a patch of cultivated land; it is a testament to the residents' dedication to sustainable practices and a celebration of the island's natural beauty. Situated within the private Haig Point community, the garden spans a picturesque area where locals come together to

grow fresh produce, exchange gardening tips, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of working with the earth.

Cultivating Community Bonds

At its heart, the Haig Point Community Garden is a place where friendships blossom alongside the plants. Residents, united by their love for gardening, gather regularly to tend to their plots, share stories, and lend a helping hand. What was, only 18 months ago, a handful of gardeners is a now a thriving group of 15 active Members. This shared endeavour not only strengthens social bonds but also creates a supportive network where knowledge about gardening techniques and local flora is passed down from seasoned gardeners to newcomers.

Embracing Sustainable Practices

Central to the ethos of the Haig Point Community Garden is its commitment to sustainability. Gardeners employ organic methods to nurture their crops, minimizing the use of synthetic chemicals and promoting soil health. Rainwater harvesting and composting are integral parts of the garden's operations, demonstrating a holistic approach to environmental stewardship.

Bountiful Harvests and Culinary Delights

Throughout the growing season, the garden bursts with an array of vegetables, herbs, and flowers including roses that have been blooming

for over 20 years. Each harvest of tomatoes, okra, peas, eggplant, squash, onions, cucumbers, peppers, bok choy, kale and watermelon is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the community. Residents often gather to exchange surplus produce, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the fruits of their labor.

A Sanctuary of Serenity

Beyond its practical benefits, the Haig Point Community Garden offers a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. Surrounded by lush greenery and overlooking the bucolic horse pastures, it provides a space where residents can escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, reconnect with nature, and find solace in the simple pleasures of gardening.

Preserving Island Traditions

The garden also plays a role in preserving the rich cultural heritage of Daufuskie Island. Many of the gardening techniques and plant varieties cultivated here have been passed down through generations, reflecting the island's agricultural traditions and deep-rooted connection to the land.

Looking Ahead

As the Haig Point Community Garden continues to flourish, its impact extends beyond its boundaries. It serves as a model for sustainable community living and inspires residents to embrace environmental

stewardship in their daily lives. Whether nurturing plants, fostering friendships, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature, the garden remains a cherished cornerstone of life at Haig Point

The Haig Point Community Garden stands as a testament to the power of community, sustainability, and natural beauty. It embodies the spirit of collaboration and stewardship, offering a tranquil haven where residents can cultivate both the land and meaningful connections with one another. As it continues to grow and evolve, the garden serves as a shining example of how shared passion and dedication can create lasting positive change in our community.

Members can choose from a variety of garden plot box sizes to best suit their needs. There are also some raised beds that are more accessible for Member with mobility issues. Any interested Members may email haigpointcommunitygarden@gmail.com to arrange a tour of the garden and to view available plots. Members are also highly encourage to attend the Community Garden Open House on Saturday, July 6 from 3 PM - 6 PM. This will be a great opportunity to tour the space and mingle with fellow green thumbs!
