SPRING 2021

FOUNDATION FROM THE CHAIRMAN

The Haileybury Foundation is finishing 2021 with many positive developments to report, despite the obvious challenges we, like so many others, have faced during the year – testament to the engagement and generosity of our donors and the wider Haileybury community. I would like to share some of these with you, as I have done on previous occasions. I shall use the same format as the one we approach our regular board meetings with. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT We continue to prioritise our engagement with the Haileybury community, recognising that it takes time and patience to build acceptance and trust in what we are striving to achieve. Our omni-channel approach includes:

developments for many years: the Haileybury Society is being relaunched, with existing members becoming its patrons, while past staff (who have worked at Haileybury for eight or more years) and all past parents finally have a means to stay in touch with their ‘peers’ and the school. It even has its own distinctive emblem, which, naturally, features magenta! Early indications are that opportunities to attend music and sporting events, an annual ball and cocktail parties would be popular with eligible members. While this is first and foremost a social and community initiative, the Foundation is supportive of this development and will welcome playing its part in these upcoming events. DONATION GATHERING We have averaged just over 1200 donors per year since 2015, and 2021 has been no exception. With two bequests being received and several new major donors committing to over $20,000, it has been another strong year of donation receipts. Of significance, our 1892 Circle – those who have donated at least $500 each year for three years or more, and/or have committed to do so – has doubled in size this year. Our staff Workplace Giving and OH year group Class Giving programs are going from strength to strength. GROWING OUR INVESTMENT CORPUS Continued growth and stewardship of our investment corpus is crucial as we strive towards funding our building and scholarship initiatives in perpetuity. We manage a balanced portfolio of investments, with the objective of achieving at least ‘5% real returns’ (i.e., after inflation). With net returns since inception (October 2015) of 8.5% per annum, this has been comfortably achieved to date. ALLOCATING OUR DONATIONS In total, 26 Haileybury Foundation scholarships are anticipated to be awarded in 2022 – we have come a long way from the three that we awarded in 2015, thanks to the generosity of our donor community. A VISION FOR THE DECADE

online and via publications: through the revamped Haileybury website, we make the giving experience easy and secure

As your board, we are pleased not only to report on the Foundation’s achievements, but also to be working on our vision and strategy for the decade ahead. I look forward to sharing these with you in 2022.

social media (primarily LinkedIn and Instagram) – important communication channels for sharing Haileybury Foundation stories in the ‘connected’ world

In the meantime, on behalf of the Foundation board and executive team, as we approach that time of year of family, fellowship and giving, I would like to thank you for your generosity and wish you a Merry Christmas and happy Festive Season.

Direct-to-Community: our ‘DTC’ channel has been the most challenged over the past two years, yet we are ending 2021 with one of the most exciting

FROM THE VICE PRINCIPAL During another challenging year, the Haileybury Foundation has continued to prosper through the generosity of many. This generosity comes in the form of gifts of time, artefacts, friendship, resources, money and bequests. The Haileybury Foundation would like to thank the many volunteers who do so much across diverse areas of the School. We are so fortunate to have a strong and supportive community. This includes:

sporting events and assisting with scoring and umpiring

At least 500 members of our Haileybury community choose to give by regularly volunteering across many areas of the School. Every year, Haileybury volunteers contribute in excess of 10,000 hours to our School.

bringing lovers of music and drama together at concerts and performances

helping during School Tours

fundraising for causes both inside and outside our School gates

Haileybury could not achieve all that it does – for its students, families and the wider community – without volunteer support.

holding friend-raising events that bring together the parents of our students and incorporate them into the life of the School

I recognise the generosity of our Haileybury Parents and Friends groups who contribute to Foundation Scholarships. They are changing lives forever.

SCOTT DORAN VICE PRINCIPAL COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & ADVANCEMENT

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT & ALUMNI RELATIONS The generosity of the Haileybury community is extraordinary. Since the inception of Haileybury Foundation 11 years ago, nine former students have benefitted from Foundation Scholarships. When the 2022 School year commences, that number will swell to 11, while a further 25 students will either commence or continue their education at Haileybury as recipients of a Haileybury Foundation Scholarship. The legacy that our donors are leaving is immense and continues to build. The care that our donors demonstrate for our students makes such a meaningful and lasting
