Haileybury Rendall School is pleased to offer a world-class education and boarding experience to international students in Years 9 – 12.

Closely affiliated with Haileybury Melbourne and part of the Haileybury family that provides education across South East Asia, Haileybury Rendall School (HRS) has drawn on Haileybury’s acclaimed success and established its own vision for the future. The strong ties with Haileybury provide many opportunities for our HRS community to join a broad range of activities. BOARDING Experience

Located in the breathtaking Northern Territory, Haileybury Rendall School Darwin provides its students with a truly unique Australian experience. FACILITIES

WELLBEING

The Senior Boarding House, situated on the Haileybury Rendall School grounds, will host 60 students across male and female residences, featuring both single and dual occupancy rooms.

The Head of Boarding oversees the Boarding Program and provides an important link between students and staff across the whole school.

The male and female residences will be connected via common living spaces in which students can study or socialise with fellow boarders.

The Assistant Principal – Pastoral Care works closely with boarding staff to develop and implement holistic wellbeing programs that are tailored to the needs of each boarder, while Student Services provides a medical clinic, counseling services and programs to support students.

Each room features a shared en-suite bathroom and toilet, study desk, air conditioning (heating is not required in the Darwin climate) and WiFi. A large cafeteria and dining facility are available to all students and feature a diverse international menu that caters to all dietary requirements. Students also have access to sports facilities including swimming pool, basketball courts and recreational ovals. The safety of our students is paramount, and all boarding facilities feature CCTV, complete perimeter fencing, lockable gates and 24/7 boarding staff.

We provide our boarders with the highest standards of Duty of Care to ensure they always feel safe, connected and supported. This creates a culture of a home away from home. We also recognise that young people learn best when they are healthy, happy and retain a strong connection with family and their cultural beliefs. A Boarding Activities Coordinator creates a rich program of afternoon, evening and weekend activities include organised sport, karaoke nights, cultural exchanges, leadership development, fundraising and community contribution, arts, dance, music yoga, martial arts, games, trivia, movie evenings and much more.

LIVING & STUDYING in Darwin

Darwin’s multicultural community and tropical climate will ensure that no international student will ever feel far away from home. ABOUT DARWIN Darwin is the capital city of the Northern Territory and is home to the traditional landowners, the Larrakia people. Darwin city has a population of approximately 148,000 and features a rich and diverse multicultural community. The Territory’s tropical climate ensures that the weather is warm to hot all year round, with an average temperature of 30 degrees. Just a four and a half hour flight from Singapore, Darwin is Australia’s gateway to South East Asia.

THINGS TO DO Unlike other boarding experiences across Australia, Darwin and its surrounds offers students something different in every sense. Students can take in Darwin’s lively city experiences such as the night and weekend markets, exploring the local attractions such as the museum and gallery, cruising and sailing on the harbour, spending time with friends at the Darwin Waterfront, taking in a movie at the outdoor cinema or shopping at the local shopping centres.

Students also have access to some of the most picturesque and unique Australian experiences right in their back yard. Just 60 minutes from Darwin you will find the Northern Territory’s best kept secret Litchfield National Park, where you can explore the misty waterfalls and dramatic landscapes. For the more adventurous, spend the weekend taking in the rugged and remote beauty of Australia’s biggest national park, Kakadu. Students also find themselves only a short plane ride from Australia’s most iconic and sacred landmark, Uluru.

SCHOOL LIFE IN DARWIN HRS students have access to the best education facilities and programs in Darwin. The School has an acclaimed Academic Program and delivers an internationally recognised Education Program, which provides pathways to universities in Australia and across the globe. The Boarding Program provides students with a structured and balanced approach to schooling with time for academic work, diverse extracurricular activities and leisure. Haileybury Rendall also has strong links to Haileybury Melbourne, providing opportunities for study trips to one of Australia’s largest and most vibrant cities.

CURRICULUM at Haileybury Rendall School

HRS’s diverse subject range, ensures there is something on offer for every student. Students entering Haileybury Rendall School at Year 9, will commence in our Middle School program, which has been designed to prepare them for completing the final years of schooling in Years 10 – 12. This culminates in students receiving an internationally recognised Australian Admissions Tertiary Ranking (ATAR), providing a pathway to universities across the globe. Teaching and learning styles in the Senior School program promote self-management and selfdiscipline. They also improve individual learning styles and encourage students to become resilient independent learners across a vast range of subjects.

BOARDING LIFE at Haileybury Rendall School

A highly structured approach is an important part of the Haileybury Rendall School boarding experience. A typical mid-week schedule is outlined below, with flexibility given on the weekends.

BOARDING HOUSE MEETING

Students wake at 6.45 am to prepare for the school day and complete morning jobs before departing for breakfast in the Dining Hall on their way to morning classes.

A selection of lunch options are available for all boarding students in the Dining Hall. As per morning break, student meals are included as part of the Boarding Dining Program.

Head of the Senior Boarding House and students conduct an evening meeting to catch up what unfolded during the day and to plan for the next days activities.

HOMEWORK TIME

Students attend Tutor Group at the beginning of most school days followed by their morning classes.

Students attend their final two periods of the day before preparing to head back to the Senior Boarding House.

Students have an allocated homework period in which HRS staff and residential tutors are available through the week for additional support.

8.30 – 9.00 pm

A mid-morning light snack is available to all boarding students in the Dining Hall where a range of snacks are on offer as part of the Boarding Dining Program.

A number of afternoon activities are available to boarding students through various HRS Programs.

LATE SUPPER

10.50 am – 12.30 pm MIDDAY CLASSES Students attend two periods of midday classes.

5.30 – 6.15 pm DINNER TIME Evening meals are an important time for the boarding students and special dinners are often planned throughout the year. HRS staff are regularly invited to attend dinners with the boarders providing further opportunity to develop mutual trust and respect.

An evening snack is available to students in the Senior Boarding House before students start preparing for bed. 10.30 pm BED TIME All Boarding students are required to be in bed by 10.30 pm to ensure they are well rested for the following day.



ACADEMIC Success

By attending Haileybury Rendall School, students have a world of opportunity before them. As part of the enrolment process, we partner with an Academic Testing Agency, who will assess your child in your home country, so we can better understand their academic potential and needs. This provides students with the best start possible at the School. Graduating cohorts from HRS have seen some exceptional VCE results and high Australian Tertiary Admission Rankings (ATAR). 2020 results highlights: • 38% of students attained an ATAR of 90 and above, placing them in the top 10% of students in Australia. • 33.3% of students attained an ATAR of 95 and above, placing them in the top 5% of students in Australia. Attaining an ATAR places students on the right pathway to some of the top universities and colleges across the globe.

Many Haileybury students from across Australia choose to continue their studies within the country at universities such as The University of Melbourne, Monash University, The University of Sydney and the Australian National University. Some of the most popular courses amongst Haileybury graduates include, Medicine, Science, Law, Commerce and Business.
