OHA Annual Report
President’s Report
It has been a busy few year here at the OHA! Time flies, and before we know it, students transition from walking the halls of Haileybury to becoming part of our global alumni family that continues to grow and thrive. Here at the OHA, our members are at the heart of everything we do. Beyond reunions, the OHA offers a vast array of services and programs that enable opportunity and connectivity for our members.
With many OHA Councillors new to their roles last year, our initial focus has been on establishing strong foundations to better cater to the evolving needs of our diverse member community. Over the past 12 months, the OHA has refreshed our strategy and structure, clarified Councillors’ responsibilities, implemented new governance practices, and embraced new ways of working. This shift has invigorated our approach, empowering us to adapt to the evolving needs of our member network.
Building on this groundwork, we’ve introduced a suite of new services designed to elevate member experiences and opportunities. Approximately 40 alumni from the class of 2023 have utilised the OHA Study Relocation Fund, providing financial support for those relocating for study across 19 different universities after graduation. We have run two successful Hearts on Fire events, where previous students share tips on making the most of Year 12 and their experiences beyond school. The OHA’s support of the Haileybury–Rendall Exchange Program is now in its second year, assisting another four families visiting their children on exchange. I recently met several Haileybury Rendall graduates at the OHA HRS Melbourne Event, where the sense of connection among their peer community shone through. The OHA Award will be presented for the first time this year to a 2024 graduate who embodies the essence of ‘Staying Connected’ and contributes to the Haileybury community.
Looking ahead, we are excited to bring to life several new initiatives. This includes a Professional Development Fund to support growth opportunities that might otherwise be inaccessible, and proactively funding OHA Clubs to set them up for success as they kick off their respective sporting seasons. We are also exploring the establishment of an entrepreneurship community and associated grants program and will seek input and interest from our community in the coming months. Lastly, I am looking forward to our upcoming Sursum Corda Business Leaders event later in the year, where our panelists will explore the trending topic of technology-enabled business transformation.
As you embark on your journey as graduates, we encourage you to reach out, engage with us, and know that we are here to support you. To those across our community who keep in touch, share your story, and lend your passion and ideas to the OHA, we say thank you. As always, remember to Stay Connected.

EVENTS
The OHA ran an exciting, engaging and brilliantly attended series of events in the months between April 2023 and March 2024.
New events on the calendar during this period included a hugely successful Mornington Peninsula luncheon at the Continental in Sorrento, a fun and funky Axe Throwing event and a Gin Masterclass.
Add these to the regular events such as the ever popular Clark Club luncheon, Chapter reunions in most cities of Australia, class reunions and the sold out Golf Day at Southern Golf Club and our members will see that there is an event for everyone in the OHA mix.
Some of our feature events included;
• Generations Breakfasts (all campuses)
• Golf Day
• Former First Team Reunions
• Ken Phillips Day
• Clark Club Luncheon
• Class Reunions
• Interstate and overseas events
• Sursum Corda Society event
• Open Member events
We look forward to engaging with our members at our events in 2024/5.
CLUBS
The OHA is indebted to those who work behind the scenes to ensure that our clubs are functioning at the standard required to exist in their various competitions and environments.

OHA AWARDS
OHA MEDAL
The Old Haileyburians Association Medal is awarded annually to an Old Haileyburian in recognition and appreciation of exceptional achievement to the community beyond expectation in their field of endeavour. Given that there are now in excess of 19,000 members of the Old Haileyburians Association, to be awarded this medal is a significant achievement.
In 2023 the OHA Council deemed that for the first time in the Medal’s history there would be two winners of the award. The winners were as follows;
The winners of the 2023 OHA Medal were John Gollings OAM (OH 1962) and Professor Rod Hicks AM (OH 1976)
John Gollings is a photographer specialising in the built environment, including the documentation of both ancient and modern cities around the world. He is considered one of the most interesting of Australia’s architectural documenters. Characterised by strong formal composition but with a didactic, and wider, contextual viewpoint. John holds a Masters of Architecture from RMIT University. He works in the Asia Pacific region as an architectural photographer. He specialises in the documentation of cities, old and new, a lot of it from the air. He was the cocreative director of the Australian Pavilion at the Venice Architectural Biennale. In 2014, John was made adjunct professor in the School of Media and Communications at RMIT University.
Rod Hicks is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Melbourne and at Monash University. Professionally, he trained in medicine and surgery (MB BS with Honours) at Monash University and the University of Michigan before receiving a post-graduate Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Melbourne. After 30 years at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, where he was the inaugural Director of Cancer Imaging, Rod recently founded a research and development company. Using his expertise in oncological positron emission tomography (PET) imaging and therapeutic nuclear medicine, he will seek to develop new diagnostic and treatment approaches for human diseases. As a clinical and laboratory researcher, he has published over 600 peer-reviewed manuscripts and is one of the world’s most highly cited nuclear medicine specialists. Rod is the Editor-in-Chief of Cancer Imaging and an International Associate Editor of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine.

OHA WEEK
OHA Week, held in August 2023 was initiated as an opportunity to connect current students with the Old Haileyburians Association brand.
The Old Haileyburians Association (OHA) week was a fun filled day.
Our Senior School students and Pre Senior students immersed themselves in a selection of interactive activities, engaging presentations and delicious food trucks. Our aim to provide awareness of the OHA brand through connection with current alumni across a range of fields was a success.
The Year 9 activities were conducted for 90 minutes and were led primarily by Old Haileyburians. Some of these activities included;
• Painting workshop
• Paramedic
• Jewellery design
• Caricatures
• Martial Arts
• Lawn Bowls
• Women in Engineering
• Money Matters (Financial)
The activities and concept provide a way for our organisation to become known to Haileybury students providing greater relevance of opportunities available once students leave following Year 12.
MEMBER BENEFITS
Old Haileyburians, by virtue of their Life Membership are able to avail themselves of the following services;
• Relocation bursary fund
• Clubs grants program
• Year 12 gifts
• Mentoring
• Jobs Board
• Baby Sitting and Tutoring
• Publications and communication
• Access to events at subsidised rates.
• Access to OHA Clubs
• Community Grants program
• Availability of Careers support.
• Access to a dedicated support team (OHA office) as well as a network of Old Haileyburians.
During the course of this year OHA Council made two important recommendations which have both been adopted by the OHA office and add further impact to members of the Haileybury community.
1. Relocation Bursary
As a member, the OHA recognises that the non-Melbourne and non-physical based campuses of Haileybury present some unique opportunities and challenges with regards to engagement. Similarly we recognise that students graduating from Melbourne based campuses may wish to pursue higher education interstate. As part of an ongoing support campaign, the OHA provided support to Haileybury graduates from 2023 who needed to relocate following graduation for the purposes of study. This support will be extended to the most recent graduating cohort in future years.
The below graph highlights the key results of the program in 2023/4;
• 37 applications approved.
• 29 applications received from Haileybury Melbourne and 8 from Haileybury Rendall School.
• 25% of applicants relocated to the ACT whilst 20% (HRS) relocated to Melbourne.
• 7% relocated overseas.
• The most popular destination was Australian National University (ANU) – 24%
2. Haileybury Rendall Exchange program
The OHA recognises that the non-Melbourne, non-physical based campuses of Haileybury College present some unique opportunities and challenges with regards to engagement. As part of an ongoing support campaign, the OHA supports the family members of Haileybury Rendall exchange students to visit Melbourne and Haileybury students who visit Darwin. Two students per year from Haileybury Rendall School and Haileybury in Melbourne attend each others campuses for a term. Support is provided by way of return economy class airline tickets for the parents of the four students.
