Notes
I am delighted to welcome you warmly to the Autumn term College Recital celebrating the extraordinary musical diversity of the pupil body at Haileybury This evening is particularly special for me as I make my debut with the Haileybury Symphony Orchestra and I have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with them in preparing tonight’s programme I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues for all the hard work they have put in in preparing the pupils for their performances and to the Operations staff in their support in staging this evening’s concert
This evening’s programme presents a music on both a large and small scale, from the intimacy of the piano solos, to the dramatic symphonic sounds of Bizet’s Carmen Suite The extracts from Carmen highlight the most popular tunes from this powerful opera capturing the sound of nineteenth century Seville The opening prelude captures the underlying tragic nature of the story while the famous March of the Toréadores captures the excitement of the spectacle of a bullfight
We like to think that Haileybury provides a home and a stage for all musical talent and expression; tonight, we hope, proves us correct. Please silence your phones for the duration of the performance, and refrain from taking any photos or recordings throughout.
We hope you have a wonderful evening.
