1 Throughout this time I worked on various projects from nearly all of the commercial art domains. Such a wide scope of work was a fully conscious decision, because I think that diversity is a way to enrich the final effect of design projects. My works are distinguished by their originality and powerful impact on the viewer, as well as ease of designing innovative solutions and ability to put them into practice. I work with private clients, companies and advertising agencies, specializing in cultural projects carried out for festivals, galleries and cultural institutions, as well as for corporations and private clients. I ensure global service, making use of advanced production facilities.

I cooperate with prominent specialists from many disciplines, including web developers, photographers, fashion designers, film-makers and PR agencies. The goal of my work is to build an effective image of an idea, brand or event. I focus on communicating the message in an appropriately intriguing form. The entire design process is under my full control – from analysis and inspiration, concept and creation to production supervision and implementation of finished solutions. I design both limited editions and projects meant for massproduction. My works have been presented in numerous publications and exhibitions around the world. Every year I create a new limited clothing collection: www.hakobo.pl I am always ready to face new challenges and opportunities.

Hello, My name is Jakub Stępień. I work as a freelancer in brodaly -defined graphic design. For the last ten years I have been creating my own Hakobo Studio.

Hakobo (born 1976) is currently listed among the world’s top fifty most important poster artists (according to John Foster, author of New Masters of Poster Design: Poster Design for the Next Century). He feels at home in visual identity, activities bordering art and design and the generally understood utalitarian graphics. He collaborates with many cultural institutions in Poland, e.g. The Art Museum in Łódź, CSW Zamek Ujazdowski, Design Gallery BWA Wrocław. He has a characteristic style, inspired by traditional graphic crafts as well as street culture. His collection of works consists of both disciplined, simple arrangements and those inspired by his fascination with camouflage, graphic noiz and the excessive.

(...) Why skateboarding? Because it is one of the numerous dimensions that Hakobo’s art derives from. Neo‑plasticism is another. Constructivism, avant-garde, op-art, psychedelic art, hip hop, video games, minimal – are some more that his output stems from. Incidentally, Hakobo’s minimal sometimes gets blown up to be shattered into a thousand pieces and becomes “maximal”. There is no other Polish designer I can think of who would so efficiently tame the multidimensionality of today’s reality, with its permeating orders and multitude of parallel worlds, each governed by its own aesthetics. There is no other designer who would be equally efficient in transgressing the seeming contradiction between what is digital and what is analogue, between the abstraction of information and the substance of visual acts. Hakobo is modern. Hakobo is a futurist – ecept that his future is now. (...) Stach Szabłowski

HGW: Hakobo Graphic WorLd is Jakub Stępień’s first monographic publication in the form of an artistic book. It covers a catalogue of Hakobo’s numerous projects – posters, visual ID’s, exhibition layouts, publications, as well as the limited edition of clothes and accessories. The attractively designed album breaks away with the tradition of “artist’s catalogue” and shows Hakobo’s output as a clear aesthetic system, consistently displayed in his works.
