Time flies when you’re having fun

The saying ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ is perhaps an overused cliché, but it couldn’t be more true when describing the year so far at Halcyon.

We have enjoyed a series of exciting milestones across our new communities.

Home owners at Vision by Halcyon and Halcyon Glades were very pleased to mark the openings of their Leisure Clubs, where they now enjoy regular social events and the ever popular Halcyon Happy Hour. Halcyon Glades’ pickleball court, which is the first in Australia, has been a raging success as home owners navigate the game which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis.

Halcyon Glades’ Recreation Club features an innovative rammed earth wall which has been designed to optimise thermal mass – essentially keeping the building cooler in summer and warmer in winter. It is part of a series of environmentally sensitive features across the community which saw Halcyon Glades achieve full six-leaf EnviroDevelopment certification from the UDIA earlier in the year.

Halcyon Lakeside has attracted an interesting and diverse mix of buyers, including many from across Australia and a few from other Halcyon communities, such as Halcyon Landing. Pets... pawfect companions Experts say pet ownership provides major physical and mental health benefits to senior Australians by lowering blood pressure, increasing balance and physical activity and assisting with heart conditions.

Studies have shown that both cats and dogs can reduce blood pressure and make you a happier and a healthier person, ultimately resulting in a longer life.

At Halcyon we encourage pet ownership and include walking paths and parkland areas in our communities for the benefit of home owners and their furry friends.

Sue Fredrickson moved into Halcyon last year with her two and a half year old miniature schnauzer, Ruby.

“Everyone in the community absolutely adores Ruby, she has such a lovely nature and brings so much enjoyment to the surrounding home owners,” said Sue. “When you live alone it is nice to have another body to come home to. There is nothing like a dog’s welcome on your return”.

“I walk Ruby twice a day. For a less motivated person, owning a dog gets that person out of the house and initiates social behaviour, which is essential for the lonely”.

A $10,000 donation from Halcyon means that South Stradbroke’s Volunteer Marine Rescue Island Base will be fully operational for the first time since 2012, drastically increasing rescue services for Gold Coast Boaties. VMR Treasurer Geoff Lind said the volunteer group could now upgrade its island base facility enabling them to operate from South Stradbroke Island during weekends, school holidays and emergencies.
