t’s been a year that’s Iharder affected all of us, some than others and
charities have done it particularly tough as they rely on events to raise much-needed funds for the people who depend on it.
Halcyon homeowners have a long heritage of fundraising for many charities as well as donating their time and energy through volunteering to help those in need. Through the Friends of Halcyon referral program, more than $110,000 has been donated to almost 65 different charities thanks to the generosity
of our referrers, who get to choose their own charity to give back to. The most popular causes are a number of different cancer organisations including Cancer Council QLD, Breast Cancer Foundation and Prostate Cancer as well as animal welfare charities such as Animal Welfare League QLD (AWLQ) and the RSPCA. Others include Surf Life Saving Queensland, Parkinson’s Australia, Story Dogs and domestic and family violence charities like DV Connect who operate Bella’s Sanctuary.

GENERATIONS KEEPING OUR BEACHES SAFE ision by Halcyon V homeowner Colleen Barrie has spent a
lifetime of Sundays down at the beach, firstly with son Dean and that tradition continues with her grandchildren. “We started down at Coledale on the NSW south coast when Dean was little and he has done it ever since,” she said. “He’s heavily involved with the Miami Surf Club and is Junior Age manager and all three kids are extremely active.”
Colleen said Rylan (14), Lahni (11) and Maylee (5) loved spending their weekends down at the beach and would no doubt continue the family tradition of helping the community through surf lifesaving. She said SLS was an incredibly vital part of the community as it taught surf safety to generations of Aussie kids as well as helped protect swimmers on our beaches. “It’s also great for everyone’s health and their sanity and it is a wonderful way to spend time together as a family,” she said.
