WELCOME Welcome to the 2020 Arts Directory produced by the Arts Council~Haliburton Highlands! The Haliburton Highlands is a community where one can find art, culture and heritage almost anywhere one looks. While the arts scene in our community has grown exponentially in recent years, this has always been a place of creativity. Even many decades ago, local and visiting artists documented our natural landscape. And it wasn’t just visual artists who found inspiration here. From music in the lumber camps and performances at the Stewart family’s Newnham estate to books, poems and plays written by local and visiting authors, creativity has long been woven into this County’s identity. Creativity was also to be found in the home where aesthetics and function could blend in woodworking or the creation of textiles. In the intervening decades, the Haliburton Highlands has become known as a hub for the arts to such a degree that visitors to the area often come away thinking that everyone here is an artist! This Directory serves as a testament to this amazing arts community, and I encourage you to let it inspire you to explore this coming year. Take an interest in a new art form or perhaps reach out to an artist in the community to find out more about their work. Make sure to support both established and emerging artists in the Haliburton Highlands, as it’s through this support that our arts community will be able to build on its rich history in the coming decades. We’re stronger together! Cheers, Kate Butler Chair, Arts Council ~ Haliburton Highlands MISSION
