Many colleges and universities in the country can either meet full demonstrated need of their applicants or admit the most qualified students regardless of their need. We do both.
The educational environment you choose is incredibly important. Because Hamilton invites the most talented and deserving students to join our community, and then awards them the financial resources to flourish, our classrooms, labs, studios, playing fields, and residence halls are filled with the brightest minds. Being exposed to the different perspectives that make up our campus will enrich your experience and help you fulfill Hamilton’s motto to “know thyself.”

ADVISING
As a first-year student, you will be assigned a faculty advisor, a career advisor, and an ALEX advisor. ALEX (Advise, Learn, EXperience) is a coordinated network of on-campus academic centers, resources, and advisors who will work to ensure your academic success and personal growth from the moment you set foot on campus until you graduate. Your ALEX advisor will help connect you to resources, services, and programs that will support you, as well as offer guidance in areas such as off-campus study, experiential learning, and finding balance in your life.
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING: RESEARCH, GLOBAL LEARNING, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Hamilton students have access to an incredible range of experiences and staff that enable them to explore (and discover) their passions. Here is a sampling:
• Student Research: You can pursue original research projects while working closely with one of your faculty mentors. Student research often results in publication in academic journals or presentations at professional conferences.
• Off-Campus Study: Pursue your passions and develop a broader perspective by taking part in a global learning experience. Opportunities include the College’s programs in France and Spain, internships with Hamilton’s DC and NYC programs, or field research and study abroad semesters with partner programs in places like Denmark, New Zealand, and Costa Rica.
• Community Engagement: In and out of the classroom, on campus and off, our students are involved in advocating for a better world. You will find almost endless ways to develop leadership skills while advancing changes in social, economic, environmental, and cultural policies and practices.
• Internships: You’ll read more about these incredible opportunities (under Career Preparation), but given that 75% of our students pursue two or more internships, we thought it was worth mentioning twice!

CAREER PREPARATION
Whether you plan to enter the workforce or pursue graduate study after leaving Hamilton, you will be prepared. Hamilton’s rigorous liberal arts education will teach you how to think, analyze, question assumptions, solve problems, and communicate ideas persuasively — skills that will get you noticed by employers and grad schools.
THE CAREER CENTER
Hamilton offers students a carefully planned approach to career preparation, with a developmental curriculum, extensive resources, and an individual career advisor.
A huge amount of my success as an entrepreneur is attributed to the education and experiences that I got at Hamilton. This liberal arts education is hugely valuable; it’s a powerful thing to learn how to write, speak, form an opinion, and defend it. Students can use those skills to take risks and try new things.

Career Development Curriculum
We don’t leave your career preparation to chance. That’s why we’ve developed our own “Find Your Future” curriculum to make sure you’re ready when you leave Hamilton. The curriculum has four parts:
94+ PERCENT of recent graduates completed at least one internship
75 PERCENT of recent graduates completed two or more internships
1 in 5 recent graduates completed four internships
1. Know Thyself: The “Find Your Future” curriculum is based on self-reflection — defining your skills, interests, values, and what makes you happy. The Career Center will help you use this knowledge to set goals at Hamilton and for when you graduate.
2. Explore: Most people don’t enter college knowing a lot about different career paths. Modules in this section will help you learn more about career options.
3. Communicate: The modules in this section will show you the best way to present yourself and your qualifications.
4. Connect: You’ve explored your interests, values, and skills, and identified different career options. You’ve perfected your materials and learned how to present yourself effectively. Now it’s time to connect to opportunities. Our alumni are ready to help.
How you communicate with other people, how you interact with other people, how you express yourself will have a huge impact on your success. And, when I try to point to things that have helped me, my ability to communicate … was rooted in a lot of experience that I got [at Hamilton].
— David Solomon ’84, P’16, president and CEO, Goldman Sachs
