“
November comes And November goes,
With the last red berries And the first white snows. With night coming early, And dawn coming late, And ice in the bucket And frost by the gate. The fires burn And the kettles sing, And the earth sinks to rest Until next Spring.
-Clyde Watson
”
Visit downtown all month long for live music and performances, indoor farmer’s markets (see page 7 for locations), shopping, dining, art exhibits, sporting events (see page 14 for schedule) and so much more. Come for the day or stay for the weekend and experience November in Hamilton!

Business Spotlight - bruce ward ARCHITECT BRUCE WARD LOVES HAMILTON After having lived and worked in several places, Bruce Ward is happy to have settled in beautiful Hamilton. “For me, this is the best of all possible worlds” says Ward, whose architectural practice is based here. “All around us we have the glorious houses and commercial buildings of the Victorian Age, and yet we still have some open space where people can build their own special dream home. We can choose to live within walking distance to everything, with a front porch where we can chat with neighbors going by, or we can have our own private estate on several acres and still be just 5-10 minutes from downtown or Colgate University.” His practice is a satisfying mix of old and new, with some additions and remodeling work in the beautiful older homes plus a few new homes with their own special opportunities. “I do everything from cozy ranch homes on country roads to impressive larger homes in built-up neighborhoods; family room or garage additions, kitchens and in-law suites, and commercial projects too.”
28 All of the modern comforts of home paired with the traditional charm of a beautifully renovated farmhouse.
holcombsbandb.com • (315) 228-2120 5 Mill Street • Hamilton, NY
“Some people choose to call a builder first when they want a small addition, and that’s fine” Ward says, “but I can bring an added level of comfort to a project by providing detailed 3-D renderings of how the project will look, so the owners can really see what they’re getting. And, I can easily make changes, or provide different options, all without pounding a nail. After all, it’s much easier and cheaper to make changes in the computer than it is during construction!” Ward also offers a full range of Green Design services, including energy efficiency, indoor air quality, low-impact materials, and help with solar design.

“Hamilton gives us the cultural benefits of city living with the safety and sense of community of a small town. I could do my office’s shipping and mailing online, but I choose to take mail to the post office because I always see someone I know there. That’s what I love - it’s not just a place to sleep, it’s a real community of neighbors.”

Alice Butunoi
Alice Butunoi is an Upstate New York artist who presents a unique collection of evocative jewelry pieces that tap into the free-spiritedness and nostalgia of a bygone Bohemian life. Her work is voluptuous and poetic, intricate and distinct, lithe and radiant. Alice’s eclectic technique reflects the diverse composition of the pieces themselves. As an architect and graphic designer, she taps into the universal rules that govern and guide the visual arts, and reapplies them in new and innovative ways in her beautiful jewelry collection. The line is a blend of Bohemian avant-garde and contemporary design elements. Her jewelry speaks to the rebel, the wonderer, the young at heart, the unconventional, the bold, the romantic, the casual as well as the elegant…regardless of age. The pieces are inspired by the Bohemian counter culture which is “an exotic and fascinating space vividly colorful and noisy, home of an extraordinary gallery of poets, artists, and musicians,” Butunoi said. “Intellectuals embracing life as art, innovative spirits, vagabonds at heart; which through their work and lifestyle created such an intimately rich place of retreat for generations to come.” Alice’s work is currently featured at Broad Street Gallery in Hamilton and can also be viewed at www.laviebohemejewelry.com
