One year ago, Hampton Hall welcomed Butch and Monica Hunyadi to the community. From where? You guessed it, Ohio! Over the past 30 years, Butch and Monica have traveled to the Lowcountry for countless vacations. Travel sports and collegiate competitions took them from coast to coast. Even after traveling around the country, they always knew Hilton Head was the place they wanted to call home. After talking with residents and making countless spreadsheets, they made the decision to move to Hampton Hall. The Hunyadi’s were planning on staying in the community for three to five years before deciding if it was the right fit. However, it only took eight months to realize they were home. They have sold their first home and are now building in Hampton Hall on Wicklow Drive.

Before moving south, Monica was a human resources and operations professional working in both the private and public sectors. Monica’s experience began in the Japanese auto glass industry followed by director level positions with the Ohio Consumer’s Counsel and the Supreme Court of Ohio. Butch devoted thirty-five years to the criminal justice field. He began his career in law enforcement as a State Police Officer in New Mexico. He moved back to Ohio where he worked at the state level in law enforcement training, community corrections and prisons. Both Butch and Monica hold graduate degrees, served as adjunct professors, and hosted professionals from all over the world for cultural exchanges. Monica and Butch have known each other since high school in Findlay, Ohio. They participated in various sports and still recall competing in track and field together for their high school. After initially going their separate ways for college, Monica joined Butch at the University of Toledo where he had a successful collegiate

football career. They still stay in touch with their friends from UT and enjoy returning for MAC championship team get-togethers.

“Pete’s Grill is a favorite for lunch, and they enjoy having a nice dinner at the community clubhouse.”

In Dublin, Ohio, Monica and Butch raised two daughters who both won state championships in high school soccer and went on to participate in collegiate sports. Their daughter Brittany attended the College of Charleston and their daughter Kelsey attended the University of Kentucky. After working as a college soccer coach, Kelsey took a position with a division of Johnson and Johnson in Miami, Florida. Brittany and her husband, Hayden, have three children and live in Bluffton after relocating here from Oklahoma City. Butch and Monica find themselves very busy outside of Hampton Hall with their grandchildren. Their grandparent duties include carpool, pre-school, swim lessons, boat days, dance…we all know the list! Since their relocation to Bluffton in the past year, the Hunyadi’s were thrilled to celebrate their first Christmas and Easter in the Lowcountry. “Whether the setting is the golf course, dining facilities or pickleball court, everyone is courteous, respectful and helpful; qualities that Butch and Monica look for and appreciate.”

When the Hunyadi’s have time to themselves in Hampton Hall, Butch spends time with his newfound buddies on the golf course at least two to three days a week. He also participates in pickleball, workouts, and lap swimming at the indoor pool. Monica enjoys a leisurely bike ride around the community combined with an early morning walk with Butch…when he doesn’t have an early morning tee time! Pete’s Grill is a favorite for lunch, and they enjoy having a nice dinner at the community clubhouse. Their favorite aspect about Hampton Hall is sharing this great place with their friends. Whether the setting is the golf course, dining facilities or pickleball court, everyone is courteous, respectful and helpful; qualities that Butch and Monica look for and appreciate.
