How do the aesthetics behind Wes Anderson’s most popular films prove that he is a modern day film auteur? After exploring a range of questions linked to Wes Anderson’s style of filming, I have decided to choose the above question to base my COP 3 essay on. It’s clear this question will allow me to research into a range of devices used by Anderson that help visually connect each set to its narrative. These could through the use of graphic design (e.g. the Mendl’s packaging in ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’) or the symmetrical shots and camera pans throughout all Anderson’s films. I feel this question is broad enough to let me explore a range of ways each film proves Anderson to be a modern day auteur as well as refined enough to be written about in sufficient detail. Once I have written my piece it’s likely I will reword my question to something slightly more refined to what I have naturally focused on throughout my essay. I have chosen to focus specifically on film and particularly that of Wes Anderson’s productions as during my second year at Leeds College of Art I have explored and enhanced my skills in fashion film. Although this essay differs completely from that of COP 2, it links to other modules undertaken in second year which I have found particularly stimulating. I often take inspiration from Wes Anderson’s films and incorporate aspects of them into fashion concepts, whether these be in film, photography or graphic design based subjects.

Relevant Quotes “I have a way of filming things and staging them and designing sets. There were times when I thought I should change my approach, but in fact, this is what I like to do. It’s sort of like my handwriting as a movie director. And somewhere along the way, I think I’ve made the decision: I’m going to write in my own handwriting.”
“I wouldn’t say that I’m particularly bothered or obsessed with detail.”
