WELCOME It’s still warm in Canberra, but the morning air is growing crisp and crystal clear, signalling the very beginning of Autumn. This is the time to get out and enjoy our beautiful city, with its many events and seasonal colour. Please join us at the Handmade Market, where you can come to shop, socialise and graze to your heart’s content. Hopefully, you can take time out of your busy schedule to flick through the pages of this, the Autumn edition of Handmade Magazine. In it, we will be telling you everything you need to know about the March Handmade Market, including what to put on your shopping list for your home, your pantry, your wardrobe and your loved ones. The Handmade Market is on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th March, from 10am until 4pm at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC). Two halls will be packed with beautiful designs and produce made by Australian artisans, delicious food and an unbeatable atmosphere of fun and creativity. From small beginnings, it has grown into a much anticipated event on the Canberra calendar, attracting designers and visitors from all over Australia. In two halls of the Exhibition Park (EPIC), there are 250 stalls of designer gifts, homewares, fashion, accessories, children’s items and food. The gourmet food hall is growing in popularity, with locals eager to taste, try and buy the best local produce, coffee, wine and street food. There is easy access, abundant free parking, plenty of space to sit and relax, wide aisles, baby changing facilities, ATMs and friendly, knowledgeable staff to assist and advise you.

THE HANDMADE HOME

Australian wildflowers, moss and lichen are thoughtfully harvested and captured in eco resin to make up the collection by Nanna Woo.

The homewares on display at Handmade in March have all been created by hand in Australia. Original design, innovative production methods and attention to detail all combine to create pieces that will adorn your home in style.

Simple, elegant, sustainable design comes from Turner + Turner. New to Handmade, this collective uses natural materials to create pieces that will become collectors’ items.

Combining stunning home centrepieces with unique wearable jewellery, Nanna Woo will add colour to you and your home.

Upswitch makes imaginative lamps, lighting and home wares using reclaimed and upcycled materials. Each piece is a one-off, designed to bring out the character of the found object’s original use, giving it personality and longevity.

4 Leaf Clover is a textile house which painstakingly designs and hand prints its fabric collections before turning them into sumptuous homewares. The current collection, ‘Botanica Australiana’ is inspired by the beauty of Australian native flora & fauna.

FASHION & ACCESSORIES Ruth Tate uses beautiful fabrics sourced from around the world to produce collections characterised by classic cuts with a twist.

Jude Artisan Fashion creates women’s, men’s and unisex fashion through the unique and off beat use of shape, colour, texture and an unexpected combination of materials.

Zilpah Tart’s Yumi Morrissey designs her own exclusive fabric prints for use in her collections. She uses photographs taken around Canberra to create beautiful, bright, unique prints which adds an exciting element to the designs.

Farrah will be bringing its exquisite handmade leather accessories to the March market for the first time. Pieces include bags, wallets, belts and cufflinks.

Juno Stone & Silver will be presetnting its beautiful jewellery at Handmade for the first time in March. A combination of the finest faceted stones with 98-100% Pure Thai Hill Tribe Silver makes for one of a kind pieces.

Another unique idea for your wardrobe at Handmade. Kimono Yamamoto makes bags, purses and clutches from vintage kimonos, which make treasured keepsakes and gorgeous talking points.

Taking inspiration from both Celtic and Maori art, K Mueller Design combines precious and semi precious stones with a range of metals to create modern takes on ancient jewellery motifs.

THE HANDMADE PANTRY Handmade’s Gourmet Food Hall is a great place to pick up unusual flavours, larder staples and just brilliant ideas. Sauces, chutneys, jams, oils, vinegars and spices will add extra wow to your dishes and drinks, mixers and cordials will help your party go off with a bang. And don’t forget to invest in a local cookbook for even more inspiration.

Canberra’s Bellerophon Cold Brew uses only the highest grade, ethically sourced coffee, roasted especially for cold brew to achieve a cup with unrivalled sweetness and complexity. Drink while the weather is still warm.

To avoid overly sweet drinks, use Sin-Kō-Na Tonic Syrup, a bittersweet mixer, made with cinchona bark (the natural source of quinine) that leaves a clean finish on the palate.

Keeping it in the family, Josh&Sue is a mother and son team with a homemade range of gourmet jams, chutneys and sauces. The duo will be back at Handmade in March to offer advice, inspiration and heavenly flavours.

Handmade always brings you a wide selection of our favourite thing, chocolate. Combining a tongue-in-cheek attitude with high quality product, Sydney Chocolate will be bringing, among other things, a range of Sydney suburb inspired sweets.

Quicksand Publishing will be at the March Market again with latest publication, The Capital Cookbook 3. With recipes from around the region, one of their beautiful recipe books is sure to have the perfect dish to serve to your loved ones.

Seed Press has published The Cupping Room Cookbook. Packed with delicious recipes from the Canberra café and coffee mecca, the mouth watering photography alone is sure to give you inspiration.


Hot street food will be in abundance at the Handmade Market in March. Sausages, burgers, corn, Asian, Indian and Greek amongst others will all be cooked fresh in the Gourmet Food Hall. And if you haven’t tried one of the Handmade favourites from Mr Papa, you need to put this experience on your list too.

STREET FOOD PARTY However early you come to shop, Two Before Ten will be on hand to provide you with your caffeine fix.

Your sweet tooth will not be disappointed by the crêpes, doughnuts, cannoli, baklava, churros and cakes on offer. But for the perfect dessert to complete your street food experience, it’s hard to walk past the gelato from The Italian Traveller.

Cannoli Brothers fill their freshly made delicacies with homemade cream filling that will melt in your mouth.

Greek food with Greek hospitality and Greek fun can be found at Ilias the Greek. Indulge in their speciality savoury and sweet food, made fresh at the market, and you may be asked to smash a plate or two while you’re there!

We dare you to resist doughnuts with a myriad of fillings from Bombolini and freshly made on the premises by Krofne. Take your pick, or compare them both.

LITTLE DARLINGS Handmade is a great market for children. There are wide aisles for prams and strollers, baby change facilities and a breast feeding room. With so many food stalls, there are also plenty of delicious drinks and snacks on offer and of course, there is so much to look at! Bring the kids to Handmade and pick up something unique and playful for them.

Happy Hands Happy Heart is new to Handmade with a playdough recipe that includes fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices to create the unique colours. Each flavour is scented to enhance the feeling of calm, encouraging creative and sensory play and developing fine motor skills.

Seriously Milestones have taken the real “oops” moments in life and developed cards to be used as photo props to capture the fun. With cards for babies, toddlers and pets, along with a range of greetings cards, they’re putting the fun back into moments that are memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Jilly Junior will be bringing its usual teepee delights in beautiful fabrics. A perfect sanctuary for the busy child.

Little Monkee Moos will be at the market for the first time, with wall decor, cushions, alphabets and flash cards printed with beautiful animals, that are perfect for a fun and stylish nursery.

My Menagerie produces hand-stitched toys, made from soft merino wool and given cheeky character.
