WELCOME Canberra’s biggest market is back this Spring. We receive hundreds of applications from local and national artisans who want to bring their bespoke products to Canberra. We carefully curate until we have 260 stalls of Australian designers and producers with the perfect blend of homewares, fashion, gifts, accessories and food. Then we create the best layout, including our increasingly popular gourmet food hall so shoppers can relax, taste and soak up our unique atmosphere all under one roof. The next market is right at the beginning of Canberra’s outdoor events calendar with Floriade starting on the same weekend, so there’s no better time to plan a break in our exciting Capital. Flowers are blooming, cafés, restaurants and bars are spilling onto the pavements and the sky, as ever, is big and blue. Come and sample all that the city and region have to offer. And if you mention Handmade when booking with our preferred accommodation partner, the Rex Hotel, you will receive 20% off one of their beautiful rooms. The Handmade Market is on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th September, from 10am until 4pm at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC). Head over to our website for more details, articles and profiles of our designers and producers. www.handmadecanberra.com.au Within the pages of this magazine, we will be showcasing our stallholders for the September Market and focusing on who’s new. We’ll walk you through the gourmet food hall and give you a taste of our street food. And we’ll be listing all of the designers and producers, so you can start to plan your trip to Handmade. Please enjoy, and we’ll see you at the market.

Handmade Canberra was established in 2008 to satisfy a local need for high quality, handmade Australian designs. From small beginnings, it has grown into a much anticipated event on the Canberra calendar, attracting designers and visitors from all over Australia. In two halls of the Exhibition Park (EPIC), there are 260 stalls of designer gifts, homewares, fashion, accessories, children’s items and food. The gourmet food hall is growing in popularity, with locals eager to taste, try and buy the best local produce, coffee, wine and street food. There is easy access, abundant free parking, plenty of space to sit and relax, wide aisles, baby changing facilities, ATMs and friendly, knowledgeable staff to assist and advise you. Handmade has a thriving social media life with regular news, videos and updates, so follow the links from the website. www.handmadecanberra.com.au

THE HANDMADE NURSERY Your little ones will love the Handmade Market. Not only is there a lot to look at and yummy treats to taste, but there are also plenty of beautiful things to take home. Toys, clothing and nursery decorations are only some of the children’s items on sale at Handmade.

Why not take home an individual named keepsake from Makers & Merchants? Names can be pre ordered on their website and picked up at Handmade. For dreamy artworks that you’ll want to keep forever, head to Winter Avenue Press (above). Twice Designs’ Marauders’ Map artwork (far left) is available for your Harry Potter fans. Miss Ruby May (above left) has a range of handmade dolls and wooden animals that will bring hours of fun, while the beautiful toys from Edge of the Forest (left) will appeal to mums and their babies.

SPRING HOME It’s almost time to throw off the blankets and open the windows, so the Handmade Market is the perfect opportunity to update your home with the latest homewares. With thousands of original designs, all handmade here in Australia, anything you buy will make a wonderful centrepiece and talking point, from ceramics and textiles to kitchenware and ornaments.

With many ceramic styles and methods to choose from, there’s enough to cater for any taste. ByKate Ceramics (top left) has a neutral and metallic range, while Ana Jensen Ceramics (left) come in strong and subtle colours. Wonderful wood is the material used by Meraki Makers (far left), whose marquetry techniques will inspire. For resin, Nanna Woo (bottom) offers a rainbow selection of bowls and accessories, enhanced with metallics and texture.
