I have always valued design and the creativity behind every project I've worked on ASU's Interior Architecture program is a collaborate environment teaching the importance of working in teams, bouncing ideas and solutions off each other to achieve a great final product. RESEARCH- HEALTH & WELLNESS
INDUSTRY STANDARDS
WELL Building Standard, focusing exclusively on human health and well-being. WELL quickly became a new goal post for our industry as a perfect complement to LEED. Instill confidence and safety in our employees so they know what they can expect when they come back in and understand that the company is prioritizing employees’ health.
HOW DO OFFICES ACHEIVE THIS?
An organization’s culture is influenced in three different ways:
Beliefs and values within an organization
Expected behavior within the work environment
Culture found in workplace artifacts and surroundings
Workplaces must be thoughtfully planned and designed to consider how they affect human behaviors and experiences within the space
Design is shifting towards designing with equity and prioritizing the well-being of the worker
RESEARCH- MENTAL WELL BEING
DESIGNING WITH EFFICACY
A focus on mental health in design promotes restoration, relaxation, and relief from stress, while also increasing productivity, energy, and the wellbeing of the employees.
Ease of wayfinding
Access to nature
Moving towards more communal design
Allowing for different environments for mental stimulation
BREAK AWAY FROM THE TRADITIONAL OFFICE
The workplace is where we connect these elements together through social spaces
Intentionally creating social engagement space, both physically and virtually, is the catalyst for fostering these types of relationships
The concept of a more flexible and more collaborative space can lose the privacy and personal aspect of the office that some employees desire
RESEARCH- PHYSICAL HEALTH
INCLUSIVE AND ERGONOMIC DESIGN
Shift to a more inclusive and ergonomic design, introducing new ways to better physical health
Sit to stand desks
Creating different areas for work to allow the staff to choose how and where they want to work each day
Neighborhoods, zones, and landmarks create spatial familiarity
Look at the approach to circulation
BEHAVIORAL NUDGING
Intentional ‘cues’ through:
Graphics
Messaging
To promote:
Wayfinding introduce and Ideal behaviors
Nutritional health information
Signage that guides occupants toward healthier forms of movement

BIOPHILIA IN THE WORKPLACE
workplaces – tend to be stripped of much of their connection to the natural environment, though plants can have major positive benefits for employees and their organizations.
37% fall in reported tension and anxiety; a 58% drop in depression or dejection; a 44% decrease in anger and hostility; an increase of 15% productivity; and a 38% reduction in fatigue. Scientists at NASA discovered that plants were adept at removing chemicals such as benzene, trichloroethylene, and formaldehyde from the air, making it cleaner for humans to breathe.
Plants and Indoor Environmental Quality Research Group, has found that indoor plants can help reduce carbon dioxide levels by about 10% in air-conditioned offices, and by about 25% in buildings without air conditioning. By absorbing sounds (rather than insulating against noise pollution), plants help to reduce the distracting effects of background office chatter.

SMART TECHNOLOGY IN THE WORKPLACE
The development of smart building technology and the continuous evolution of artificial intelligence can open more opportunities for businesses to become more efficient and effective. This can increase user experience and provide the best products and services for consumers. Smart technology can also improve the way workplaces operate to increase and improve the workforce as well as to make ones work experience comfortable and efficient.
87% of CIOs believe digitally empowering their employees can drive at least 5% additional revenue growth over three years.
63% of companies are adding small meeting rooms with collaboration technology, 56% are adding large conference rooms with collaboration technology, and 51% are adding huddle spaces with collaboration technology to their workplaces.
Smart Technology Glass used throughout workplace for optional privacy.
The glass's light transmission properties can be affected by light, heat or electricity. Mostly, this means the glass changes from translucent to transparent, blocking some, all or certain wavelengths of light.
